On a slightly different note I think the friendly between Eng and France next week at wembley will be a spectacle.
What was for all intents and purposes a pretty unimportant match will now be made into a tour de force of symbolism. I doubt the queen will go, but Id be surprised if Harry didnt....poncy dave will likely go too and tricolours will be everywhere. Even the English football fans will show respect to the French anthem Im sure and Im sure security will be as tight as its ever been |

Correct dusty and all pointless. We are at war and the enemy are here. Candles and flags and songs are useless. If you live in a city and want to go out buy a bullet resistant vest.

I'm actually not the touchy feely marchy type but I actually would really like to see any next french friendly in an overwhelming expression of good taste, I realy would.
Then we step forward as a people, and crush these scum. |

The west is inextricably linked to the middle east because of oil so this has created our direct involvement with the area and its politics - perhaps we need to consider alternative energy opportunities - the sooner we do so then we can leave that part of the world to evolve as it determines for itself. Somehow the majority might then decide they should be friendly to us as oil revenues subside and they realise that a medieval existence is not how they want to live

panic just set in in the square with all the candles
people running over the flowers and messages in utter desperation to escape, they thought it was happening again. |

And just in case there is anyone that doesn't know Saudi Arabia is protected by the US as long as their oil is only sold in dollars. It's the only thing keeping the whole world from financial collapse or/and world war. Any terrorist outrages are just a sideshow no matter how many there are.

Things changed with Bosnia ,even before 9/11. The west didnt get any credit for saving Bosnia from teh Serbs. Looking back we should wonder why we pursued Karadicz so much. No gratitude and a lot of muslim videos and hate preaching began after that.
On another point there was a website stating that 40% of UK muslims did not agree with democracy because only God could decide laws. Since they don't have the sense to understand that it is often a hate filled Imam interpreting the word of God they may just as well worship the moonies or pagans but that point is lost on them. |

I suggest we ask a simple question with quite profound implications and in that sense it does tie in partly with the hedonism issue. Is Islam compatible with western style liberal democracy? I suggest that it isn't and that this leads not to integration but to ghettoisation and isolation.
In it's most hardcore form then perhaps not. But I don't believe many muslims in terms of percentage (bare in mind there is 1.5 billion of them) want to live that way. The thing with hedonism, is I believe it to be a natural state of being human. Everyone, whether you an uber rich Westerner or living in a slum in Tikrit, wants to enjoy their life. The means for doing so may be different but the thought process is the same. You constantly hear of people being described as a product of their environment, like young thugs who grow up on mean streets in low socio-economic circumstances which often leads to a life of crime. Well, growing up in a world where people are being decimated on a daily basis due to Western intervention may just lead to a hatred of the West. Likewise, growing up in a Western country as a Muslim where your neighbours are arguing you should be exterminated is likely to do the same thing. This is a real danger now. Hedonism is natural. I do not believe that is their motivation. |

God, by definition, is that for which no greater can be conceived. God exists in the understanding. If God exists in the understanding, we could imagine Him to be greater by existing in reality. Therefore, God must exist....or be a figment of the imagination. Do you equate that with having a personal invisible friend, or as some do, being the provider of virgins in a hypothetical life after death? |

Whilst taking full account and agreeing with mighty's proposal about us putting our foreign policy in order we can't look at this from too much of a western centric perspective. At the same time as the Charlie Hebdo attacks were happening and a few people were losing their lives there were about 2000 losing their lives at the hands of Boko Harum in Nigeria. Similarly from a cite giving an Israeli friendly view so I haven't corroborated the figures:
“Some 11,000,000 Muslims have been violently killed since 1948, of which 35,000, or 0.3 percent, died during the sixty years of fighting Israel, or just 1 out of every 315 Muslim fatalities. In contrast, over 90 percent of the 11 million who perished were killed by fellow Muslims.” |

Because we live in the West at a time when democracy here prevails, we tend to think of it as the norm. It is not. Democracy is at a mature stage and might not last in the longer term.
If there were a threat of Islamic takeover in Britain, democracy would probably no longer prevail. The alternatives are anarchy or dictatorship of one colour or another. That's my prediction. |

One of the terrorists involved in the horrific attacks in Paris on Friday evening was reportedly rescued by Greek authorities from a refugee boat that sank off the coast of Greece last month.
The UK Mirror, citing Serbian and Greek media sources, says that 25-year-old Ahmed Almuhamed and another family member were rescued October 3. They were processed as refugees, but there had been no way to verify whether their identity documents were real. They were transferred to another vessel and continued their journey. CNN reported Sunday morning on Fareed Zakaria: GPS that at least one, and as many as three, of the terrorists in the attacks reached Europe among the flood of Syrian “refugees.” CNN’s Clarissa Ward reported: …it now appears that as many as three attackers possibly posed as refugees, gaining access into Europe on the refugee route going from Syria into Turkey, then on to the Greek island of Leros, and then from there on through countries–Serbia, Croatia and into Central Europe. It’s believed that at least one was traveling on what was most probably a fake Syrian passport but there’s also talk about two fake turkish passports–ISIS here really exploiting this refugee crisis. Update: Breitbart News has reported that at least two terrorists are now confirmed to have entered Europe as “refugees.” Many of the “refugees” are economic migrants leaving their families behind in refugee camps in Turkey and elsewhere, and many are from countries other than Syria. The attacks killed at least 129 people, including at least one American, and wounded hundreds more in several simultaneous attacks in the French capital. On Sunday, President Barack Obama reaffirmed his commitment to accept Syrian refugees into the U.S. Estimates of the number of refugees vary, but could well exceed 100,000 over two years. |

they are also extremely prone to the need for messiahs and prophets for whom they hold a completely blind and irrational devotion, regardless of facts and reality.
to them it is unimaginable that obama can be responsible despite all this being directly linked to the arab spring, the engineered removal of stable states like libya, syria, almost egypt etc, and the total and sudden withdrawal from stable iraq which split it and in combination with syrias drawn out civil war created the isis vacuum, so therefore a scapegoat must be found or created. and when obama does less to isis in years than russia does in days they shout "rejoice". when obama says "no boots on the ground" they shout "halleujah", and when obama sends in boots they cry "praise the lord", and when obama repeatedly bombs over an hour a known and identified msf hospital killing dozens they keep very, very quiet. and to them the prophet al gore has spoken, science is now "settled" and all who question the word shall punished and cast out. another trait is the belief that they as the chosen people control the fate of the earth, that they alone cause the ice ages to come and go, and that the oceans will rise and the fires will burn if they do not repent, buy a prius, and sacrifice the sinners and so it could not have been an innocent and oppressed arab that killed thousands on 9/11, so they make up a ludicrous and elaborate fantasy that it was one of their own from the "dark side" (they are big into star wars and harry potter etc) |

There are 1.5 billion of them Poly. If they all wanted to blow themselves up taking us with them we would not be having this debate and the population of the world would be down to about 50 by now. We have been bombing Arabs and sending in ground troops to their land en masse for 15 years and in one way or another for long before that just to a lesser extent.
Where has it gotten us? The thousands of bombs already dropped have accomplished feck all. But sure, let's drop a few more thousand hey ![]() |

Still waiting to hear of a fatwa from ISIS demanding muslims attack.......................each other ????? Perhaps the logic is beyond them or they really are full of hate for their fellow mankind, regardless of their faiths. |

Jean Luc Melenchon at the weekend spouted the usual political nonsense about minority, peace loving religion etc. But he also said that what we need to do is cut off the financial aid to IS. Good sense at last.

i hope my use of "playbook of the faithful" wasn't too subtle for some We have been bombing Arabs and sending in ground troops to their land en masse for 15 years and in one way or another for long before that just to a lesser extent. you may need to check your maths here, and herein lies a clue to at least the immediate problem. |
|
By:
So where are we poly? Where are we going? Instead of debating the semantics of debating, pray tell, what more bombs will accomplish.
|
|
By:
the bombs are the symptom, not the cause or the cure
|
|
By:
You got nothing poly. What a load of sh1te you speak. All these posts you make and I have no idea what your actual stance is, aside from the fact you argue against people who argue against more war.
|
|
By:
well my stance makes little difference to the outcome, to paraphrase stalin "polybot? how many divisions does he have?"
the problem though, lies all around you, as do the solutions where are we? the university of missouri, hands up don't shoot, the "palestinian" "question" where are we going? as always, it could go all to hell, or maybe not this time. on one hand most people seem reasonably sensible, yet usually self preserving and cowardly, and yet it only takes a small minority to shift an entire society one way or the other. |
