Looks like we need a "Google cars" type aircraft if you can't trust the driver.

It's seems foolish leaving a pilot alone at the controls and locked in.That should have been covered. I hope it's not usual practice to leave one pilot locked in by themselves.

Some airlines require two-up, some don't.

Co-pilot was named today as 28-year-old German Andreas Günter Lubitz. Deliberate act of suicide.

Very, very sad. RIP those poor passengers.

From black box conclusions:

All the time, you can hear the co-pilot breathing, Mr Brice revealed.
He said: 'His breath was not of somebody who was struggling. He never said a single word. It was total silence in the cockpit for the ten past minutes. Nothing.
‘I don’t think that the passengers realised what was happening until the last moments because on the recording you only hear the screams in the final seconds’.

Pilot suicide more common than it first appears.

Seems almost certain now it was a deliberate act.

"The co-pilot of the Airbus A320 which crashed in the French Alps appeared to want to 'destroy the plane', according to French prosecutors.

Andreas Lubitz put the plane into a descent after the captain had left the cockpit.

Evidence from the black box flight recorder suggests he then refused to open the cockpit door to the captain."

dreadful i would imagine that when the pilot started kicking fk out of the cockpit door that people would have realised something was wrong ..

24 planes have come down since January 2014 and a total of 1,187 deaths.

Perhaps the pilot was being the consummate professional, reassuring the passengers and playing down the situation.

"Theres a fatal crash every 1.4billion miles flown."

Yes, I was reading somewhere there is more chance of getting killed in a car crash on the way to the airport.

In this tragedy if the co-pilot was not a terrorist, but wanted to commit suicide, why didn't he just kill himself, why did he have to kill 150 people.
