I have a cunning plan.

The mus want to kill mus who are not their type - especially other mus.

So, send lots of guns to mid east and let them get on with it.

Bingo - and as an added bonus, nutters here will go over and kill and be killed.

It seems to me that the one man who could control all this stone age tribal barbarity was Saddam Hussein.  Why oh why did we spend all that money and loss of human life just to kill him.

Give Assad the ammunition and let him do what is necessary. Perhaps the handwringers will understand what he had to contend with now.

By now there must be a group of nations whose populations (certainly) and governments (probably) have an anti-IS disposition, prepared to come together in a full military alliance to defeat these savages in the borders of their own self-professed caliphate.

I realise in talking about IS it is a nuanced situation. I am not talking about anti-Muslim , or even anti-Sunni Muslim (the sect represented by IS) sensibilities, but nations who understand that the threat to the peace of the world is greater (and continues to grow) whilst these barbarians have any traction on the world stage.

I realise that such a broad military alliance is unlikely and would require great diplomatic skill, before you get to military command structures and interoperability of military kit between disparate nations.

But physical military defeat is the only thing that will stop IS.

They do not respond to civilised norms. Anything other than extreme barbarity is viewed as a weakness and, as is seen on a daily basis, they have a 'by any means necessary' attitude to their jihad. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-29123528)

Yes there will be fallout. Never mind the bodybags returning home. Engagement on the ground with IS will inevitably mean more pictures like the revolting video above - but with Australian, Russian, Japanese, British victims (men and I daresay female combatants). There will also be homeland issues to be faced, with an increase of radicalised blowhards prepared to 'do a Lee Rigby' against kuffir in his own backyard.

But the alternative?

What if IS get their hands on / develop the technology to make a nuclear weapon? How wide will the borders of the Caliphate grow, given they are knocking at the doors of Turkey (a NATO member state) and Russia as well as North Africa now?

great post Roger (video throwing people (gays) of large buildings is heart breaking. Thing I can't get my head around is that this time nine months ago, I'd never heard of ISIS, seem to have grown very quickly.

Why do they have put this on the front of newspapers

This is an act of evil....IS are evil....their leader appears to be a sadist

Unfortunately this is where we reach eventually if we carry on war long enough
There has been great evil done in the Middle East over the last 25 years. a lot of this has come from the West
It takes two to have a war

IS need to be removed, but I suggest that we seek a peaceful solution with the Muslims...unless we intend on killing every one of them
Or expect more of this

I also doubt any pilots attacking IS positions is going to feel quite as comfortable any more, they cannot allow themselves to be captured
or expect the same

If we are not shocked by this Wesdag...then there is not a lot of hope for mankind

IS commit these atrocities in order to gain a reaction.

They are barbarians and that's what barbarians do.

I doubt they can be rehabilitated - much like many serial killers.

Mankind on the whole seems ok to me.

IS are part of mankind I regret to saySad
This is the sort of thing humans beings do to each other....read your history

I would also say that invading Middle Eastern countries  is an act of barbarians, ie Iraq
who did that?

I would agree IS seem beyond rehabilitation.....but the remainder of Muslims are not

We need to reach them

Peace is slow and hard, but if we ever want a better World, that is what we must attempt
To think that killing is the only option is a PARADOX if you can see this

despite what we read in the papers. Mankind, as a whole, has never been more peaceful than it is at the moment, as the centuries go by, we generally appear to be getting more civilised.. It just takes time, but it is inevitiable, dont expect to much too soon...
Not that long ago, in this country, burning people alive was a regular occurrence if you were suspected of being a witch i.e anti-christian...

The ONLY way for peace to be achieved is to try and be inclusive and to educate the young, as soon as you start putting up walls and creating divisions, you can only expect trouble....

To give them what they want, A Muslim Caliphate? akabula, although I would not advise it

I have said that these guys may be beyond rehabilitation, they need to be removed, they are not benefitting anybody
including Muslims

But I am suggesting we must deal with Muslims in general differently, accept our differences, stop this one size fits all world
By:

yes this has often been argued amplethorpe

One problem with this, is that when we reach the 20th century there appears to have been something of a relapse.
There two Worlds Wars that killed more people than all others wars combined...55 million WWII.

I don't believe Human Beings progress or change at all. We will always be violent, we will always enjoy inflicting
pain for the sake of it

I think this is what we must teach our children, in order to learn to control it

This is my own theory here
By:

TBH ebul I think it is the Muslims who have a difficulty with us rather than the other way around.
We bend over backwards to integrate them into our society, we make allowances for their religion and protect them through racial and sectarian laws.
What allowances are made for Christians in Muslim countries? Very little if anything.
A harder approach is needed and I'd suggest starting with the hate preachers.

ebul,

what muslims are you speaking on behalf of?

Because a minuscule number have decided to go and join IS doesn't indicate that most muslims who live in the West are unhappy with their lot.

Wesdag........A  MINISCULE number may have joined Isis , but what about THE SIZEABLE number of family, friends and imams who know what they're doing but keep quiet about it..?
