Race and religion are different. Criticizing/making fun of a religion is not racist.

If the magazine had published the magazine with no cartoons of Mohmammed - the terrorists would have won!

you arnt really suggesting that if this magazine hadnt printed these cartoons ,this gang wouldnt have attacked somewhere else as their mate proved a day later this is just ludicrous, so theres no winning or losing, there just murdering terrorists with a list of targets which little logic, they shot a jogger before this all kicked off

No what I meant to say is - if the magazine had published this Wednesday's issue with no cartoons of Mohammed - then the terrorists would have won.

Parts of the media and certainly sky news are given full uncritical reign for muslims to spout off their religious facism but no counter argument or person to state what others think.
Nothing is going to change as Burton said - there certainly won't be a free debate on this in some circles.  Our status quo politicians have been on about it covering their ar$es as soon as the starter pistol was fired.  There are too many votes at stake for them to change their apologist position.  After all, it is Labour and Tory who have presided over this mess for 2 decades.

Scandinavian if Charlie Hebdo were to stop mimicking the prophet mohammed then the terrorists have won a battle. Why should we start changing the way we live to fit around muslims because they may be offended or may come and kill you?

Why not take the manifesto of Anders Breikjiv after all he killed far more people than were killed in Paris and he was offended by Islam?

Yes lets change how we live to suit the lunatics.

won a battle
so who won the battle when they beheaded western journo,s

they,ve murdered police and 4 jews since charlie hebbdo, and you are worried about losing face, the media luvies have hijacked this one, they shot a jogger in the park if he was the only target and they said there was still 6 possible gunmen at large they,d be telling people to go jogging in the park, its not about winning ,losing its common sense,if anyone in the western world wants to watch cartoons taking the pish out of the prophet there as barmy as the terrorists,
if frankie boyle was arrested for telling sick jokes , would you be telling all comedians to go on tv to repeat the jokes, its madness, madness i say

1st time poster - so what do you suggest? blasphemy laws to prevent insulting some guy who lived in the 7th century? With sentence something like A caution? community service? custodial sentence? something harsher?
By:

When: 13 Jan 15 18:50
No I'm not worried about losing face I'm saying stand up to them. If it was just Islam that Charlie Hebdo was poking fun at then I could see the problem but they take the mickey out of all types of religion.

It has really nothing to do with the cartoons it has to do with Islamists wanting to transfer their values onto our way of life.

Sharia law is already happening in some cities in the uk.  Be prepared for a lot more pressure as the demographic gradually changes.
Only recently was an attempt to incorporate guidance on sharia law by the Law Society.  Rapidly withdrawn when they were found out.
Expect much more chipping away by the religion of pieces.

I have no problem with anyone demonstrating.
Are you suggesting that drawing a cartoon of a prophet is the same as getting jostled by a group of skinheads and them attacking a local shop?

You want to check out how many muslims write for the guardian - there's more than a couple - the penny is starting to drop here in Mo Towers. You wonder why they clamp down on questions about muslims and opening comments on the articles
check out how many are open now!!!  right now!!!  I knew we would revert to type as soon as the 'outrage' was over. They couldn't avoid it but now shutting it all down again.

1st time poster  13 Jan 15 17:13  in scandinvians defence what was the point of walking  hand in hand with the muslim on sunday, asking mosques, imans etc to help the security services more to then insult millions of peace loving muslims on the wedensday ,to prove a point

Good post imo. Argument against is that IF we need to prove a point then this is the only time and way to make it happen. Cant really prove the same point a few months down the line.
Tbh i agree with you though, offending the innocent to make a point to the stupid, wasting the free speech card imo.

There's the full-page cartoon of a weeping Muhammad on the front cover, but inside there are no more caricatures of the Prophet.

There are plenty - in the paper's characteristic scurrilous vein - of Muslim extremists. In one cartoon, two terrorists are seen ascending to heaven and asking: "Where are the 70 virgins?" In the background, the murdered staff at Charlie Hebdo are enjoying an orgy.

An editorial thanks the millions of people who have declared themselves as Charlie in the past few days - but it says it wants no more of the past insinuations that by provoking Muslims, it has somehow brought trouble on itself.

Get real get on massive, take this scenario, next week, there are tube bombings again, killing over a hundred, they declare it's in retaliation for the publication of cartoons depicting their prophet, which is just what happened in France.  What next, do we print more cartoons as yet another act of defiance? when does it stop exactly? This really is simple stuff, you call it gutless, reality calls it common sense.  You'll all be agreeing with me if it happens.

And what happens if they say women not covering up in public offends them? If they threaten our safety until women cover up? Do we abide by that as well. It really is simple to your answer you start shutting down Mosques. You cant behave we will shut you down

That's not the point.

If Islamic extremists dictate what we can and can't look at in satirical magazines then what next?

scandanavian_haven and I paraphrase, said we should not upset these people and cower to their demands so they won't harm us.

If we make a law banning an image of Mohammed then what happens when they say, for example, pork being sold is offensive to them. Do we appease them again? They already know we will trade our safety for their appeasment so it will encourage them even more.

There were laws in this country before they came and they should abide by them or leave if they don't like it, no one is stopping them.

I wouldn't expect to go to Saudi Arabia and have a drink as my culture and religion (a Christian atheist)Happy doesn't mind me doing this, I would expect their country's law and religion.

It's not a no-brainer, but I support the decision of the Guardian and co to publish the cover. It obviously counts as news.

I'd say the basic global response should be based on as you were. We shouldn't cower to these extremist fkers but nor should we move towards intolerance, since the average Muslim clearly doesn't support shooting cartoonists.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that here in Colombia they published the cover too; I thought that there would be too much "respect" for religion here. Perhaps they are so sick of domestic terrorists that they take a harder line. Also, there are hardly any Muslims. While looking into it, I was struck by the fact that Pablo Escobar had thousands of people killed during his reign, including 600 policeman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Escobar#Height_of_power), and he was just one guy, so Muslim terrorists, since 9/11, haven't really been all that active. Shows how few are really that extremist.

Je suis Charlie.

I think it is wrong to say that we should respect the laws of Saudi Arabia, everyone and anyone should be entitled to a drink in any country in the world. However democratic laws should be respected by everyone in the world....there is no contridiction in this.

Double standards me thinks.
