Extraordinary case here - seems to have been obsessed with killing this unfortunate woman and didn't care if he was caught. No reports of him doing anything untoward previously. Judges by psychiatrists to be of sound mind.

Judge sentenced him to life imprisonment.he also stipulated that this should mean a minimum of 20 years, and added he may never be released.

At first glance this does seem a very strange case.  Its difficult to believe that he doesn't have some sort of mental condition.  Probably too dificult for the "experts" to diagnose.

I can't get my head around it, how can he be "proud" to have done this? I hated one of my teachers at school, but I worked even harder to gain success as this wound him up even more the better I did.

He's 15 ffs

And not one person tried to help her as she ran from the room.

Where was the class bully and his mates? Where was the class hardnut?

Disgraceful.

"Of sound mind"? I think not.

When: 03 Nov 14 19:35
despite the reports that his mind is sound I would expect him to be moved to Broadmoor when he's old enough - he must have some sort of psychopathic condition

I disagree, he chased her from one room to another, a clump with a chair across his head, for starters.

his mind was sufficiently sound to enable him to choose a 61 year old lady as his victim, funny that he did n't develop a hatred of any of the young, physically fit male teachers....

This filthy piece of detritus apparently struggled to choose between homicide and suicide, should've chosen the latter and caused grief to a lot less people.

Whilst I'm at it, the West Yorkshire police statement today was,to my mind at least, wholly inappropriate - refered to his parents as 'responsible', 'decent' and 'victims' - that may or may not be the case but it was hardly the time or the place. The Chief Superintendent was probably right to praise the actions of those teachers who tried to help Mrs. Maguire but use of words like 'safe' and phrases to the effect of 'keeping her away from further harm' were toe curlingly inadequate.

Don't know why they can't wait for a day or two after sentencing before making a more considered statement as opposed to appearing on the court room steps to do so.

Anyway that's neither here nor there really - RIP Mrs. Maguire

but that was after he had inflicted the fatal blows, wasn't it ? the first one was probably enough. she couldn't realistically have been saved

minimum twenty years for a person whose technically a child seemed harsh to me. If he'd said sorry would he have got 10 years instead? If that's true! 10 years for not saying sorry seems quite a lot.

Some child. That's nonsense no moves. He's shown no remorse for a brutal, frenzied premeditated act.
By:

It was also pre-planned. He has shown absolutely NO remorse. He can never be considered 'safe' to live in a normal society.

Unlikely to happen but he could be out when he is 36.

As bad as this is, it could have been much worse if he had decided he wanted to go on a killing spree

think 25 years is the normal starting point for a knife murder these days. even though it was about as bad a murder as you could possibly imagine he would get some credit for his young age and possibly pleading guilty

can't think of any other recent cases of 15 year olds getting min 20 years. about as stiff a sentence as you get. could do a lot more though if he can't con the parole board like harry roberts into thinking he's a reformed character

Channel 4 News :

Mr Richardson was keen to show there are, he says, no lessons to be drawn from this appalling episode: “I feel I must reiterate what others have already said repeatedly today that this was an isolated and unprecedented incident and it is not in any way indicative of a wider problem, in this school, or in schools across the region.”

Well – that may be so. But curiously neither he nor the headteacher nor the priest were taking any questions. We were told that in advance.

A decision had been taken. Across school, church and council – no questioning allowed.

This is uncomfortable.

The verdict is passed. Will Cornick is now named.

But whatever Leeds tries to pretend, that is not the end of it, nor should it be. If Leeds wants to be united in writing all this off to a psychopathic episode then that is their prerogative but it should not go unchallenged.

Nothing could have been done to prevent it – that was the police today echoing the school/church/council.

But Cornick had talked openly about a violent attack two months before. He had written on Facebook about killing another pregnant teacher. He’d been bringing alcohol into to school  – so there are questions to be answered.

Cornick remained remorseless as he underwent psychiatric assessment.

He discussed having planned the murder for years, saying: "The killing was always on my mind since year eight, the thought of homicide, murdering her."

The teenager had even taken a bottle of Jack Daniels into school on the day of the murder with the intention of "celebrating" his actions.

"I wasn't in shock, I was happy," he later told a psychiatrist.

"I had a sense of pride. I still do."

The court was told it was clear to witnesses that the teenager was pleased with what he had done and the boy even said "good times" to horrified pupils as he returned to the classroom.

The boy chatted to them "as if nothing had happened", and while in custody he said: "Everything I've done is fine and dandy."

As usual the excuses are being wheeled out, mentally ill, on the autistic spectrum (WTF ??? ).
It's pre-meditated murder, in cold blood, in public. His age shouldn't come into it. He needs put away (and I mean ending his miserable worthless life, not locked up). If it was my mother, he'd be dead already. The only good news about all this is that his name and photo have been published, so I'm sure someone will get at him.

Not in favour of the death penalty either, tis an easy way out.

That's why many banged up on whole life terms try to top themselves.

Just let them rot in a solitary confinement would be my preferred option.

In favour of the death penalty where there is no doubt whatsoever, like this case. Save the taxpayer a fortune, and who will regret that?

Death penalty would be better, but rather than a lethal injection, I'd give him an ebola injection. I hear that's quite painful and isn't too quick.
