'The Latvian' only became known to the police when his partner plastered the area with 'missing' posters.

If he had told her a relative in Latvia was ill and he had to return for a few days perhaps the police would still not know who the cyclist was.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/missing-alice-gross-live-updates-4355693

found the mirror one of the better outlets of factual info on this one .

good old fashioned investigative journalism seems thin on the ground these days .

Have to say this investigation absolutely stinks ,600 cops but at the end of the day it took the fire brigade to get into the water  and get their hands dirty and do the business.

Body has been found not far from where Alice's bag was found .

Cop said considerable efforts were made to conceal body ,were considerable efforts  made to find body ?

as already mentioned not impossible it has been moved there later but about time someone asked some pretty obvious and searching  questions of the police .

The police will know a lot more than is being made known to the press/ general public. Of that you can be certain.

In other parts of the uk when youngsters are missing often the Public are asked to turn out and help search .This has happened in many many instances and often within days .

why is that and why was no big search organised ?

A bag by a river ,shoes in bag ,body close by .

five weeks ?

Yes police are closing ranks on this one. More interest in deflecting critism than doing any actual work, as breadnbuuter says

goes missing by the river, a bag casually chucked in bushes by a river ,shoes found laying around by the river, but police making out whoever did it was scuba diving and digging a shallow grave in the river bed Cry

they really are bunch of coonts

with the amount of time in river, how would you distinguish drowning and asphyxiated with any great certainty? got to be difficult

Hardly a time for slagging the police off now, the killer needs to be found and quick. Mistakes by the police need to be looked at later.

they are investigating themselves already, so they think now is the time to ask questions, There are 2 reviews ongoing into how this case has been handled

Alice Gross inquiry: Met police launch two reviews of case
One review is standard after 28 days of investigation; the other is more unusual and will examine case’s early stages

That was before she turned up yards from where her bag was found

The reviews though will have been  looked at from the point of trying to find the body and the killer quicker.

Brendan: Considering the chief suspects previous, if he was guilty i doubt asphyixiation would be his MO.

Plod was very quick to call this a murder inquiry which would suggest signs of foul play.

Was always going to be difficult after a  month in the water at this time of year g2d .

think they are basing the murder enquiry on how the body was found,

The body of missing schoolgirl Alice Gross had been dug into an underwater pit, wrapped in plastic sheets and covered with heavy logs,

Just adds to the weirdness, how long would it take to do something like that? Alone early afternoon?

I know that, it's just how quick they were to say murder, i had some pretty gruesome images flash threw my mind. Could have been a number of other causes and still can be.

How do you mean g2d ?

if the above is correct and she was wrapped in plastic in a pit and covered with logs ,we could safely rule out suicide imo .

Someone's got wet disposing of the body, and if they are  lifting logs then they'll likely be muscled up.
Police on the right lines with the Latvian builder.
By:

When: 02 Oct 14 21:17
Why? What happened later could be just to hide whatever else went on.

I'm just looking at reasons for the weirdness, it's 1.01 the poor mite was murdered. But as we all know, they have been beaten before..

how do you dig a pit under water?

without anyone seeing you?

You'd need a mechanical digger

The body of Alice was found in a part of the river which was only 3ft deep.

Sounds like whoever did it had Navy Seal type skills, to evade detection.

The prime suspect in the mysterious disappearance of schoolgirl Alice Gross was in the Latvian army where he was taught survival skills. - Probably in the woods somewhere in the EU. Good luck plods.

Weird innit. As i say, that bike was summat special.

Also if you go to that much trouble to bury a body, then why leave evidence (handbag etc) so close by?
By:

When: 02 Oct 14 22:06
Hmmm. I get the distinct impression that the police are releasing the evidence on a need-to-know basis.
I also get the impression that the CCDA Guessing Club are high up on the don't-need-to-know list.

When Arnis Zalkaln`s killed his first wife he had prepared her grave in advance, he also planted the weapons next to it, Then tricked her into going into the forest.

Police are suggesting whoever killed Alice had planned it all out in advance. The plastic sack, the logs and materials must have been all hidden close by and he waited for her. It`s like something out of a crime novel.
