The police said he had been questioned about a sexual assault on a 14 year old ,think it was a few years ago .
They have said with regards to this enquiry they did not know about his previous conviction for murder ,so when he was questioned concerning a drugging and sexual assault (is that not rape ? ) of a 14 year old they did not do a check on him for previous in his homeland ? OF course he was only questioned and we don't know if there was a conviction in that enquiry,still seems strange though . |

your missing the point ,i am not arguing he should not have been in the country ,his conviction was spent but should have been on record no ?
what i am saying is the police said they did not know of his previous in Latvia ,was wondering how much checking they done when he was questioned years ago about a sexual assault/drugging ? they did not look into him back then ? |

how the fck was he not spotted as a killer when he was arrested for the drugging and sexual assault of a 14 year old , guilty or not of that crime he the coppers who handled him on this occasion seem to have not cared about his past. |

Tbf to plod and naydam, there is an awful lot of traffic offences in the capital that need chasing up. Now that must take preference to a child being attacked...

Guiness2dear. I can't see why that is being fair to me. I don't even see why traffic offences in London would be of interest to me. I will agree, however, that if the motorists in this country would stop breaking the law, there would be many more policemen and women available for more important matters.

Naydam: There is no financial gain to be had by catching 'real' criminals, i.e. perverts - abusers, murderers even.
There is however plenty of financial gain in trapping motorists. That's why more effort and manpower is directed towards it. There lies the difference. |

Early reports said that he stayed in the area for 4 days before vanishing.
Did he know he was a suspect? Looks suspicious him vanishing now, unless he thinks he would be fitted up I thought he was in Latvia? With the discovery of a body, surely the Latvian police will look a bit harder for him now he is a murder suspect??? |

They have no idea where he is. And plod keep saying they have no evidence to issue an arrest warrant. Take from that what you will. This gets weirder by the day.
They interviewed a few people early on in her disappearance, one was 51 yr old male. Today the chief plod said that he is sure local people know something that can help the inquiry. Again take from that what you will. |

He was caught on CCTV cycling along a path 15 mins after she was on it? If he was innocent why run...unless he fears a fit up? Local people may know something hmm Suggests the Police think someone is hiding the murderer? I hope they get the murderer, would not want anyone innocent being done for this though |

Apparently he was around for 6 days after Alice disappeared. His g/f then put out a missing persons appeal for him. She also put posters up of his pic. Some where Alice was last seen.

 , because no bodyBy the time the body was found, he has disappeared hmm??? If the motive for her murder was rape, sadly I suspect it may have been, then what chance DNA evidence That time in the water probably little |

I think they named him before the body was found, they needed to hold him,
he may been warned stay in the area, he vanished, so then they put his name up??? or were they only alerted when his girlfriend put in a missing person report??? |

This is part of a press report from September 16th.
Police have arrested a second man on suspicion of murder in connection with the disappearance of 14-year-old Alice Gross. A statement released by Scotland Yard said the 51-year-old man was detained by police in Hanwell around 1.35pm on Sunday. A 25-year-old suspect was arrested in the Ealing area around 5pm on Saturday. Both men remain in custody at a west London police station. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "All lines of enquiry are still open at this time and this remains a missing person investigation at this stage." The Latvian is 41, btw. |
