Hi everyone hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. I was fully expecting not to post until next Thursday because of any weight gained over Christmas and the need to get my head in the right place to carry on the fight in the New Year.True to form I put on 2lb Christmas week because I ate and drank exactly what I wanted. Not a problem as such as i'd actually accepted it was going to happen. What did surprise me though was my response to it all in that it was something I didn't want to do and got back to business earlier than planned.I did so more for health reasons than anything as it can't do the body any good treating it like that.
I've just re read my posts and discovered I've lost 8 days along the way having two day 59's and losing another day later on so I'm actually on Day 151 with a 3lb weight loss. Reading it all through it's noticeable all my different emotions and at the moment I'm finding the fast days a little hard but the benefits far outweigh all that. Before I started this fast I had got to the stage where bending to do my shoelaces up was very uncomfortable and shamefully I was struggling to breathe easily.I hadn't realised how easy it is now until the other day.Add to that the fact I feel so much better I'm not going back there. Day 1 17stone 9lb Day 10 17 stone Day 17 16 stone 12lb Day 24 16 stone 9lb Day 31 16 stone 5lb Day 38 16 stone 3lb Day 45 15 stone 12lb Day 52 15 stone 11lb Day 59 15 stone 9lb Day 66 15 stone 8lb Day 73 15 stone 6lb Day 80 15 stone 4lb Day 87 15 stone 2lb Day 94 14 stone 13lb Day 101 14 stone 13lb wobble week. Day 108 14 stone 13lb wobble still wearing off Day 115 14 stone 11lb Day 122 14 stone 11lb Day 129 14 stone 9lb Day 136 14 stone 8lb Day 144 14 stone 10lb * Expected Christmas week Day 151 14 stone 7lb Good Luck everyone. Stick with it. |

A new follower here! I've read the thread twice, and did a bit of research myself. Interesting, and makes sense to me.
Had no intention of taking it up until the New Year and back into a more standard routine, so that's today . Fast day today (Monday) and Thursday.......may have some soup, but toying with going doing the "juicing" route on fast days. Lots of water today. Anyway, for starters I'll be well under 600 calories......but I am anticipating a tough day today.Starting position:- Late 40s, 5ft 8, 14st 12lbs.....but for me all the weight is around the belly, take 38 trousers but of course a bit sticking out over the top - wearing a lot of black lately . Measured the stomach yesterday 43 inches![]() . Its got to go!Will monitor progress, but not in a hurry - like my Betfair trading ("the dripping tap fills the bucket") - slow, easily sustainable, enjoyable, is the route for me. What's appealing to me is the hope that I don't dread the "fast" days and it becomes routine. Exercise manically sporadically, so will obviously try to make it less manic and more sustainable. So....... Day 1 7/01 - Weight 14st 12lb; Stomach 43in; Trousers 38in; Mentally: Concerned, Optimistic, Hungry |

Thanks guys....appreciated.
Energy problems today as I've anticipated from this thread/other reading, but the bigger battle may be mental. Going out now, little walk, think its stopped raining at last; generally will keep my mind occupied, and go to bed early .(Deep down I'm glad I've faced-up to it - had a tendency to put on weight around the belly from about 35 onwards but could lose it quite easily even into early-40s; very physically active until last few years, never really needed to watch what I ate. Presumed I could go on "physical spurts" to lose any extra weight. Hasn't worked for over 4 years - but was in denial!) |

apparently its now called the 5:2 diet and Mr Mosely seems to be getting all the plaudits. |
|
By:
i went to the dieticians on 12/11/12 and i was 20st6.
started the 5/2 diet from 21/11/12. today i got my weight checked at the dieticians, and was 19stone10. so i've lost 10lbs which i'm quite pleased about, because on my non fasting days i've developed an addiction to greggs hot sausage rolls and iced buns. |
|
By:
Best decision you have made this year wallflower.I put on half a stone over christmas ..boy was i a glutton but thats done and dusted now and straight back on the 5/2.I like to take my fast days consecutively and today is my second day of the two..im bloody starving but when i wake up in the morning i WILL be lighter than when i last weighed in on sunday morning and i WILL feel great about myself because i have taught myself willpower which is something i have struggled with all my life.Stay with it and you WILL lose that belly , (thats guaranteed) because my fat stomach used to hang over my trousers and now its as flat as a pancake and i still drink and eat what i like on non fasting days..just do the 5/2 and you will be amazzzzzzed

Hope so, twizzle
Like a previous poster said - today after my first fast day was like Christmas - or maybe as it should be . Haven't gone crazy either!Don't think I'd fancy the consecutive days ; but again going from previous posts there's a bit of variety allowed to suit each person - its good that way. What I noticed yesterday was that I had a sub-conscious tendency to go into the kitchen and start picking at things, laughing at myself, I hadn't even noticed, that I did that. Little bit hungry a few hours ago, but after yesterday I realised it was only peckishness, and I had a glass of water and I was fine - goingto have a nice lunch now. Sorting myself out for being such a woos - not actually hungry as per what I experienced yesterday, it wasn't a crisis .What I need to work on, is my intake in fast days, overdid it yesterday just some soup, tea, pear and a tangerine all day (guessing about 400 calories). Going to juice on Thursday - I need to make sure I am not just hanging around and energy-less on these days. |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Week 8 14st 2lbs Week 9 14st 2lbs Week 10 14st 5lbs Week 11 14st 2lbs Lost 3lb and back to the pre-Christmas weight. Had an initial target of 14st and hope to be there next week. Dropped a waist size from 36" to 34". Probably ate a little too much on non-fast days but did a fair bit of exercise and virtually no alcohol so reasonably pleased with the loss. Revising my target to 13st 7lbs as I'd still like some more off the waist. |

hi all :)
havent been back on the thread in months so pleased to read you are all keeping it up :) just let it go myself and didnt put much weight on till xmas where i piled 6/7lbs on , that cosmos all you can eat was the culprit! so new year and new focus to lose the weight , going with a reduced carb thing then veering onto the fasting diet. happy new year all and good luck :) |

Well done everyone it's great so many are sticking with it. I reckon we all knew Christmas would be hard unless you have fantastic willpower.GL everyone.

Day 158
It's funny how it all seems to work. I had to be weighed at the doctors on Tuesday and came in at 14 st 5lb with clothes and shoes on so expected today to be a piece of cake.As you guessed I lost nothing to remain at 14 stone 7lbs.I'm still in a good place about it all and it's a case of carry on as normal. The goods news is I can get into 34in jeans at long last. I might fall over through losing all feeling in my legs due to the blood being cut off at the stomach because they're a little tight but I'm in them. ![]() ![]() ![]() Good Luck everyone. Stick at it. |

had a shock last night when i weighed in.
was 207lbs 8 days ago and was 198.6lbs last night. had to check several times as i couldn't believe that loss! delighted and all the more determined to lose more weight and live healthier! to give you an idea of the diet , having one slice of toast and eggs(sometimes bacon) for breakfast then a dinner at nights, whatever the family are having but minus the potatoes/pasta etc rarely feel hungry. there is a website and an app that ive found useful - MyFitnessPal - records all the calories etc in what you eat. bigmo , that was the push i needed to get the weight off , i was in 36" jeans and veering towards 38" in trousers! thats a bit much like :) so also down to 34" and they arent cutting off my circulation anymore!!! been inspiring reading through the thread and has me motivated again. |

Nice one stevie_p. I know this is old but....
An Irishman was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet. 'I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, then eat regularly again for 2 days then skip a day ...... And repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds.' When the Irishman returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60lbs! 'Why, that's amazing!' the doctor said, 'Did you follow my instructions?' The Irishman nodded ... 'I'll tell you though, by jaesuz, I t'aut I were going to drop dead on dat 3rd day.' 'From the hunger, you mean?' asked the doctor. 'No, from the f**kin' skippin'. |

Day 9 - Tuesday 15th January. Completed my third fast day (Monday 7th, Thursday 10th, Monday 14th), getting easier and beginning to figure out what works for me.
Started at 14st 12lbs, now 14st 6/7 lbs. Not too bothered about the exact weight, happy that I lost at least 5lbs. Seems like a lot for 9 days, but I understand from this thread that the initial weight loss is the most dramatic. I need to but some digital scales though, bit hard looking down and seeing where exactly the dial is .I see weight fluctuates so I'm going to record every morning when I get up - and post my average weight from the previous 7 days every Wednesday (inclusive). Think this will be a more accurate way of measuring progress. Next Wednesday week (23rd) will tell a tale - will be out socialising (ie. drinking ) this Wednesday and Friday - so a more normal lifestyle.Measuring stomach logistically is a bit trickier than a thought ![]() - getting the tape around and ensuring a consistent level of breathing in or out is practically impossible. I'll just go by clothes and belt I think and not try to measure exactly.Feel good though I must say. I love Tuesday and Friday mornings. |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Week 8 14st 2lbs Week 9 14st 2lbs Week 10 14st 5lbs Week 11 14st 2lbs Week 12 13st 12lbs lost 4lbs Have seen the number 13 (st) on my scales for the 1st time in 20+ years. Couldn't have done much more this week. Two fast days with about 300 calories per day. Started pre-season rugby training with a couple of intense sessions, a couple of long walks and a couple of sessions on my cross trainer. Virtually no alcohol but felt I may have eaten too much on non-fast days. Think it will be a challenge to lose any more but I'll be happy if it takes a few weeks to reach my new target of 13st 7lbs. |

Due an update tomorrow stevie_p.......all will be revealed
![]() - within the bounds of modesty, of course!Doing this since Jan 7th, so I have a bit of data and experience now to compare against others.....by the way thanks for the tip about myfitnesspal - using it diligently since the 10th (the date of your post) - I find it a good benchmark for non-fast days though I don't bother too much if I'm a bit over (within reason) as long as I adhere to fast days, which I am. Anyway, I'll update tomorrow...... |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Week 8 14st 2lbs Week 9 14st 2lbs Week 10 14st 5lbs Week 11 14st 2lbs Week 12 13st 12lbs Week 13 13st 13lbs 1lb gain Happy enough if I stay around this weight so not concerned with the slight rise bearing in mind I'd lost half a stone the previous two weeks. Did the two fast days and have been training hard. Felt a little dizzy at times training so upped the calories on non fast days. Also had a large meal and a fair few drinks on Saturday night but think that is one of the benefits of this regime in that you can still have a blow out without worrying constantly. |

Weighed in this morning at 12st 2lb after my two day fast and to be quite honest i found yesterday quite difficult...laid in bed last night thinking about food and didn't get off until 2am.I am 5/6 lb heavier than my lightest weight which was early December and i'm putting that down to my lack of exercise. Due to the inclement weather i haven't been out on the golf course for over six weeks and the only exercise i am getting at the moment is an hours daily dog walk and even that hasn't been consistent due to the dreaded flu which laid me up last week.Mrs twizzle is now exactly 10 stone and we have decided from next week to do just the one day as we are both pretty happy with our current weight..if the pounds start to pile back on then we shall revert back to two days..only time will tell.Anyway..good luck fellow fivetwoers and keep posting.

The doctor who presented, and took part in the Horizon fasting programme was being interviewed today by Steve wright on radio 2.
He has brought a book out about this 5/2 fasting diet. Apparently gives you a few ideas for recipes etc. |

nice to see he is cashing in

First Report Card
Starting weight - January 7th – 14st 12lb Initial (6 days) - January 12th - 14st 6lb Week 1 (On the day) January 16th – 14st 6lb Week 2 (Average preceding 7 days) January 23rd – 14st 6lb Hope the above isn’t confusing but I’ve now decided to weigh myself daily and have a weekly “assessment” on a Wednesday which will be the average of the preceding 7 days. So I’ll repeat what I did yesterday from here on in. I had an initial incredible gain of 6lb in 6 days!! But this could be due to initial loss that is reported when someone starts a “diet”, “water weight” apparently. Then for 9 days (Jan 12th to Jan 21st) I stabilised and fluctuated only between 14st 6lb and 14st 7lb. Yesterday morning I was actually 14st 4lb, this morning 14st 5lb. Along with doing 5:2 I’m exercising more – gym twice a week, and walking on other days – I reckon that’s why there was no weight loss for those 9 days – even though I felt slimmer around the waist, the belt doesn't lie! My Initial Observations: My big fear, would I be able to do a fast day, is much allayed – it can be hard at stages but I’m fine and notice when I go off and do things the hunger pangs subside – I know what to expect now – Encouraged by progress, physically and mentally – Still figuring out the best way to approach it The recommendation of Myfitnesspal has been excellent for me - it’s made me more conscience of the exercise / weight relationship. Doesn’t bother me that I’m over the daily recommendation – but keeps me going exercise-wise as the more I exercise the more I can eat! Also, I’ve made my meal portions a bit smaller, and feel all the better for it, and snack less (but still snack) I’m enjoying my food a lot more (more appreciative) The initial loss was significant, but I was just as pleased with no weight gain in 9 days where I kept my fast days but was “out and about” in that time – drinking 2 nights and in a restaurant another night where I put away plenty, including my own bottle of wine, plus two doble bacardis and coke, and a nice lemon liquer! See some on here putting on weight after Christmas, or “naughty” periods, but seems ok to me as long as there is a mechanism /lifestyle to re-coup the gains. I expect this will happen with me, but as long as the monthly trend is downward overall, not too bothered – have to think long term and how sustainable is it. It seems to be, but of course early days yet! As I said, for me, I'll get a better picture if I average out my weight for a week and report that So overall – pleased I’m doing it – and will be continuing ![]() |
