Week 2 14st 11 lbs
Week 5 14st 9lbs
Week 6 14st 5lbs
Week 7 14st 3lbs
Week 8 14st 2lbs
Week 9 14st 2lbs
Week 10 14st 5lbs
Week 11 14st 2lbs

Week 13 13st 13lbs
Week 14 13st 13lbs
Week 15 13st 10lbs
Week 16 13st 11lbs 1lb gain

Did the 2 fast days but ate full amount of calories. Played first game of rugby of the season and had energy to burn, was still going strong after 80 minutes and I'm by far the oldest on the pitch (44). Downside was that I've picked up a bad rib injury that only really starting hurting after the game, perhaps my fat would have cushioned me in the past? The gain is no issue as I'm content with my weight and don't want to lose any more.

Weekly Update

Starting weight  - January 7th – 14st 12lb
Initial (6 days) - January 12th - 14st 6lb
Week 1 (On the day) January 16th – 14st 6lb
Week 2 (Average for preceding 7 days, 17th-23rd) January 23rd – 14st 6.0lb (Max: 14st 7lb - Min: 14st 4lb)
Week 3 (Average for preceding 7 days, 24th-30th) January 30th - 14st 4.5lb (Max: 14st 6lb - Min: 14st 2lb)
Week 4 (Average for preceding 7 days, 31st-6th)  February 6th - 13st 13.4lb (Max: 14st 2lb - Min 13st 12lb)
Week 5 (Average for preceding 7 days, 7th-13th) February 13th - 13st 12.8lb (Max: 14st 0lb - Min 13st 12lb)

More or less hovering around the 13st 12lb mark. Loss for the week based on averages is 0.6lb. , not a lot, expected more as I did fasts, did quite a bit of walking and weekend had way less alcohol than anticipated. Still creeping downwards and that will do.

Slight worry, was expecting to "plateau-out" at some stage....hope it isn't alreadyShocked.

Bit dubious about this 5/2 diet. Saw an article which said you can eat 600 calories on the fasting days and suggested menus amounting to that.
Would have basically meant me just missing lunch twice a week. Doesn't seem worthwhile.

Day 193 and no weight loss this week but I kind of expected it. For the first time since starting I missed out a fast day (through choice)because of family commitments and yet again didn't do great on pub day (Monday)and consequently thought I better weigh myself Tuesday morning.Result 4 lb heavier but through being pretty strict the last couple of days I've lost it and back to 14 stone 2 lbs. That's what I love about doing this I don't worry anymore about bad days and give up I just adjust and carry on.
It's been over 6 months since I started this and just as important as the weight loss is the fact I've kept it off for all that time and enjoyed the pub at least twice a week in that time. I've a big family do this Saturday so I'm guessing I wont lose any next week which I honestly feel pretty cool about. I thought about drinking diet coke in the pub but realise there is probably more chance of me fondling Holly Willoughby's  frontage than me staying off the beer so may as well just enjoy the occasion.
After the weekend though it's one final push for Tenerife on the 8th of March.Good luck everyone it's great reading how others are getting on.

I have been following this thread with much interest and bought the book and may well go onto this diet.  I first become aware of the diet was on here via Bigmo, I recall.

I was already (since November) on a low carb 'diet' which involved cutting out bread (which I found surprisingly easy), eating much less rice, pasta, potatoes and no breakfast cereal (used to love Dorset's stuff).  I have gone from nearly 17 stone to 15 stone 6.  My ideal would be between 13.5 and 14 stone.

I have made a little effort to drink less beer/lager - but it has been an unexpected bonus..less desire.  My tip, if having a drin at home is to get a nice half pint glass.  We have Peroni ones.  Definitely reduces speed/volume of drinking.  If out, I still drink pints.  Women drink halves where I come from!

One thing that I have particularly noticed is that I don't eat the volume of food I used to.  So, my portion size has decreased.

Just a few observations really.

I tried this diet for a couple of weeks and lost a little weight but I was in a bad mood on low calorie days. I dropped the rest just eating normally and doing more cardio.

I'm a bit stuck now at 14 1/2 stone but I'm 6ft 1 and 15% bodyfat so it's not too bad. Do you think going back to this diet will help me start losing weight again?

Still 4lbs in two weeks - not bad at all, hop.

I've noticed that weight loss for me is not regular - stuck in and around the same for a week maybe more and then I'd lose 2-3 lbs in a couple of days.

(I don't worry about a daily weight - just view in an overall weekly average - gives me a more balanced view, so even if I'm up a 1lb one day my "weekly average" could still be slightly down - stops me going mad looking at it).

How do you feel on the fast days? and the day afterwards?

I seem to have found a level and without a concerted effort I will probably stay around here. In the early days I used to do total fasts and now have the full 600 calories and don't worry at all about the other days. Did the two fast days, had 3 training sessions and a long walk too. Happy enough if I stay below 14 stone which was my original target.

Starting weight  - January 7th – 14st 12lb
Initial (6 days) - January 12th - 14st 6lb

Week 2 (Average for preceding 7 days, 17th-23rd) January 23rd – 14st 6.0lb (Max: 14st 7lb - Min: 14st 4lb)
Week 3 (Average for preceding 7 days, 24th-30th) January 30th - 14st 4.5lb (Max: 14st 6lb - Min: 14st 2lb)
Week 4 (Average for preceding 7 days, 31st-6th)  February 6th - 13st 13.4lb (Max: 14st 2lb - Min 13st 12lb)
Week 5 (Average for preceding 7 days, 7th-13th) February 13th - 13st 12.8lb (Max: 14st 0lb - Min 13st 12lb)
Week 6 (Average for preceding 7 days, 14th-20th)February 13th - 13st  9.9lb (Max: 13st 12lb - Min 13st 8lb)

Progress continues, fears about "plateau-ing" early were unfounded. Because I check my weight daily and work off the weekly average I've noticed a pattern for me, marginal increase then stall for a few days (maybe a week or more), then there is a sudden 2/3lb loss. Was hovering around 13st 12lb, for best part of 12 days - then was at 13st 9lb! - Big night out - straight-up to 13st 12lb next morning, but back a couple of days later to 13st 9lb.

Few more good news points for me:
- had to make an extra manual hole in a new-ish beltHappy
- fast days are easy for me as I do a lot of work from home - was in office on a fast day and had no problem at all
- took d13phe's advice - and also reduced bread intake a bit

All sorts of people on radio here in Ireland, Harvie/Howell(?) from Manchester University overtly claiming credit for "inventing" the 5:2 "diet". Did Mosely get his information from them? I thought the origins were in US.

Good luck all

Will take a listen later yeahyeahwhatever. No weight loss again but fully understand why as I had two hard days partying so actually really pleased. I've now got 15 days to Tenerife and I'm setting a very realistic target of at least a 3 lb loss which will put me under 14 stone (currently 14 stone 2 lbs)for the first time in over 30 years.
As always good luck everyone and stick at it.

So, 1.5lb down this week. Just routine now - changed days to suit plans. Big night out Saturday night ( a bit of a "do"!), another restaurant slap-up thrown in as well.

d13, haven't been sick at all - though I may not be the best barometer - I've noticed my sick level is more related to my "participation" in crowds, flights, public transport, busy shops etc and haven't been doing a lot of that lately....but I'll watch out. Certainly feeling healthier.....as you pointed out before, weight itself is just one indicator..there are others....and I had a positive indicator during the week......getting easier to tie shoe-laces, no longer have to look for sufficient height to put foot on, or crouch downHappy

Trying to move jobs and had a very heavy-duty interview during the week, 2hrs 20 minsShocked.....but felt good and looked sharp going in, not as self-conscious of a belly flopping out over the top of the beltHappy.

Good luck all, keep going bigmo....I feel that I'm so "equipped" two fast days and plenty of walking to handle any binges - in fact I don't even feel like they are "binges" - just enjoying good food and drink, enjoying myself and its doing me good on many levels.

Same as you, Capt_F, two fast days and about 5 miles walking about 5 times a week (not fast either, about 90 mins for 5 miles). Feel good.

Hello again fasters.  And hello to the new ones who have joined since I last posted.

A couple of observations over the longer term.  Since I stopped smoking a dozen years ago I have noticed that my summer weight and winter weight have become two different things.  It had become normal for me to put on roughly 8 to 10 pounds over the winter period and then lose about 5 to 7 pounds in the summer.  The end result of course has been a slow but steady net gain over time resulting in an overall weight gain of about 2 stones.  About this time last year at the end of winter I weighed in at 14 stone 2lbs.  It was the first time in my life that I had crossed the 14 stone mark and mrs topnag and I agreed that Something Must Be Done.

What happened was that Nothing Much Was Done at all except for a bit of hand-wringing over the fact that I was no longer effortlessly slim and would have to make some kind of effort to lose weight.  The day that the Horizon programme was broadcast I weighed 13st 9lb, so the summer seasonal loss had happened as usual.  At the beginning of December I was down to 12st 6lb which was the lowest I had been in years.  Over the three winter months since I have been my usual lazy gluttonous self but have also observed the two fast days each week, including over Christmas.  The result is that today I am 12st 8lb, meaning that I have held constant over the period when I was most likely to gain weight.  I am one and a half stones lighter than this time last year which I attribute entirely to the fasting diet.

The weather is finally changing and with the warm weather coming I know that I will eat less on "normal" days and become much more active. The aim for me is to get below 12 stones this year, and then to keep it there.  I am not including any other fitness regime as I want to see just how much change can be achieved by a change of diet alone.  Keep at it everyone and good luck to all.

Hello and again well done to all fellow fasters. I'm a day early but it looks very much as if it's going to be another no loss week again for me.It's not rocket science to work out that the two days I drink with possibly more food than I should eat afterwards is halting my progress.I could take the attitude that I've done the hard work and if this lifestyle keeps me at this weight things aren't too bad as I feel and look better than I have for years.Having said that the thought of losing another stone feels very appealing and to be honest my 36 in jeans are too big but the 34 in are just a bit too tight so to keep going until I'm in 34's will still be my goal.

Although I hope not to go daft on holiday I wont be fasting from Friday for two weeks and I fully intend to have a little of the foods I haven't had for so long.Just hoping with all the beer the weight gain wont be too bad.It better not be as I've bought a load of new stuff in smaller sizes so I'm in the doo dah if I balloon.

I've no intention of giving up the pub so I've taken the decision to start walking everyday whatever the weather as suggested by the capt when I come back.Started today and did 93 minutes which hopefully should be around 280 ? calories burned up.With the headphones going you don't actually notice the time.

Five days a week at 1400 calories goes someway towards some guilt free pints on one of my drinking days and hopefully will be enough to kick start me to under 14 stone.Depending on my weight gain I may hit the exercise pretty hard when I come back to so things get back to normal.

I might even be brave and post a couple of pics that show the difference with the weight loss.If anyone has a cracking tip for the Cheltenham Festival that I can put on in Tenerife I would be very grateful.Only time I bet on the horses is in Tenerife. If not no worries.Stick at it everyone and  well done.

Will pop in Thursday with final weigh in before holiday.

Glad you are going walking bigmo, I'm walking 5 miles about 5 days a week (1.5 hrs) - I believe it helps greatly along with the fasting. Once you get used it, its quite therapeutic.

Good luck all.
