13 4 and 3/4
no change wall - started 6/9/12 15 7 just before Christmas 13 10 so less than 6lb since then might do 3 fasts a week to reach target 12 7 |

Going in the right direction Capt and you haven't got an enormous amount to go to get to target.Don't they reckon the last bit to lose is the hardest? The warmer weather will help as I'm sure we don't eat as much in the summer.Almost 2 and a half stone is a great achievement.Good luck.

From my lowest weight of 11st 11lb (just before christmas) I'm afraid to report i now weigh 12st 8lbs.I still do the 5/2 but i have sadly let myself down on non fasting days by pigging out to a ridiculous degree. Got into the habit of drinking 2/3 pints five days a week and pretty sure that's why iv put on best part of a stone.Decided to knock the beer on the head for the foreseeable future and attempt to eat more normal on non fast days.I lulled myself into thinking i could eat and drink what i wanted in the quantity i wanted
..lesson learnt. |

Thank You Bigmo

I think it was Seal that sang Brother Sister It's the loneliness that's the killer. He was wrong because without doubt it's beer that's the killer. Well it is when you're doing this.If I didn't drink I would have achieved my target weight ages ago.I try to stick to two days a week drinking now but having said that if I drink today with friends coming round to watch the Masters (very likely)It will be 3 days on the trot and Monday being my drinking day will make it four days so not looking good. There is no time limit to do this twizzle and you've proved you can do it. We'll be rootin for you. Good luck.

hello all
checking in myself at 202lbs which is a massive rise and enough to kick start me back into focus with losing weight! without a doubt its the drink that puts it on , maybe not so much the drinking but i am finding i maybe eat a take away if i stay out a bit late or the next day craving junk food. whilst not all the time , it all adds up to weight gain. i suppose its all a learning curve , over the long term im happy to find out what causes the gains and tweak that. going to try really hard this week to get down below 200lbs again and go from there stay at it folks , dont give up , you know whats causing the weight gain and also know to how to lose it. good luck |

I also drink quite heavily when I go out and I also tend to eat a lot on non-fast days. However, the fasting seems to be keeping me at a weight I want to be, that combined with fairly intense training sessions/rugby games at least 3 times per week. Long stag weekend in Tenerife coming up so I'm certain to rise next week but not going to get hung up about it. |

BAD WEEK for F
13 7 and 1/4 need to get back on track put on 2.5 + |
|
By:
Oh dear.......13st 6lb this morning.............didn't walk much, pints and takeaways the staple of last few days
. Cant be too complacent! I'm doing 4:3 this week. Today, Tuesday and Thursday fast - get back on track. Not sure if extra pub visits, takeaways or less walking is the bigger culprit. All 3 I suppose. |
|
By:
how many hours do you call a fast guys? and do you remain entirely calorie free during?
|
|
By:
judorick,
A "fast" is for any 24 hour period. Some people do 6pm to 6pm the following day; like others I do midnight to the next morning - usually about 30 hours (but two sleeping periods within that) its not a complete fast, for men you eat no more than 600 calories during that period.......drink as much water and plain tea as you like in the period. (For women it;s 500 calories). |
|
By:
you would be better doing 16 to 18 hours fast with zero calories then do a fasted work out and then eat a good nutritious meal to complete satiety, once you get into 24+ hours you can start catabolism which is a state where your body uses muscle tissue for energy and this can lower your lean mass
here's a few links that might interest you www.leangains.com http://www.marksdailyapple.com/welcome-to-marks-daily-apple/#axzz2R6AnzUMw http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.co.uk/ http://www.archevore.com/ http://evolvinghealthscience.blogspot.co.uk/ |

By:
already covered that judo in earlier posts.
i have settled into two 24 hr fasts (i do have some fats in these 24 hrs such as coconut oil) and the leangains style every day that is the best routine for me after about 18 months doing this kind of stuff. marks daily apple is a great resource for info |

By:
I was talking to the guys sabotaging themselves with takeaways and beer
|
|
By:
and I've been doing stuff like this for 35+ years
|
|
By:
Sabotaging!
Steady on!Not so much an issue with diet and/or fasting options - pretty knowledgeable about this now, and happy enough with I am doing (standard 5:2). May try the 15-16hr fast, as suggested - but if I don't think it is maintainable I won't do it regularly, maybe occasionally, open to trying it. The issue is discipline - but again, not a real issue, had a 3 night / 3 take-away run last week . Bit of complacency on my part. But I've only had one take-away before that since Jan 7th. Counting nights 'on the beer" since Jan 7th - 19 - that's not bad in my world.Just need to maintain discipline and keep doing what I've been doing. No intention of giving-up pub/beer - brings too much joy to my world if the truth be known . |
|
By:
if your objective, as mine is, was optimum health, in the short, medium and long term then what you are doing would certainly be classed as sabotage
if you are just doing a couple of low calorie days a week to keep your weight down then fair enough |
|
By:
Going out in what will be 20 nights out of 110 would seem quite reasonable to me.
Would you hold any value to the positive psychological effects it has - enjoyment, social interaction - or do you believe (if they do exist) then they out-weighed by the negative effects of alcohol? |
|
By:
i think it is excessive personally but it depends what life stage your in and what your goals are.
i also think that it is about making the right choices when you socialise. 6 pints for me isn't the right choice as it affects my whole week, but that is just me, everyone deserves a blow out every now and then but that is probably 5/6 times a year for me. |
|
By:
Interesting d13phe, - let's say end of April - which is 1/3 of the year, you would have been out twice in that time....would you have been at home most of those nights or do you go out for other social functions?
|
|
By:
probably about right
i do other stuff of course but i dont need to drink alcohol or eat rubbish to socialise |
|
By:
Went out last night - had a call from ex-colleague who lives nearby
......on the spur. 4 pints. We'll have to differ about it being excessive but from another angle staying in 90 nights out of 110 is the pinnacle of discipline for me! For my own part,I like going to the theatre but don't go often enough (maybe 5-6 times a year), cinema occasionally, every other social function involves drink - I can, but dislike, going out without having a drink (I don't mean getting drunk). Could not live without having a drink/meeting people, but could live without the associated rubbish food - 4 times in 20 nights out is a great improvement on my part in this regard......hope to cut it out altogether. Before 5:2 that would be more like 14-15 times out of the 20 nights. |
|
By:
I've been doing something approximating to 5:2 since last summer just after the horizon program. I have let it slide over winter as I thought it would and gained a few pounds. At the moment it is basically just missing 2 evening meals which takes very little discipline. With the warmer weather and lesser urges to comfort eat I'll be back at it with water only between 10 am one day until maybe 6 am the following day ... so that's a 20 hour fast. This is to get the benefits of the body repair mechanism kicking in. Don't really know if it works but its worth a try.

No overall weight loss for last 4 weeks I've noticed. This is unlikely to change over next couple of weeks - bit of a holiday lined-up. Still happy enough, very relaxed about it overall, and as I said, I'm in this for the long haul and couldn't imagine not having at least one fast day per week. Don't want to get into targets (unless they are easy, as per Betfair strategy) but I think I'd like to be 13 stone by end of May, should be achievable |

Started the 5/2in August and got down to 11st 11lb from a starting weight of 14stone so proof it works is there for all to see ( lost the first stone via slimming world - April last year). I appear to have settled around the 12st 6 lb mark and hopefully now the golf season is in full swing i expect to maintain my weight around that kind of level.Mondays is my main fast day where i am extremely strict and on the other day (usually thurs) i am less so ...no breakfast, bowl of homemade chicken and mushroom soup for lunch and a chicken kebab packed with oceans of salad for my tea...the pitta bread takes me over the 600 cal but not by much. I still drink a fair amount of beer ( approx 12 pints a week)but life would be fairly dull if we gave up all the stuff that gives one pleasure. Ive cut out all crisps, peanuts and Greggs is now strictly off limits.

More than happy though, 2 fast days, train hard, play rugby and have a blow out after the match. Gone from a slow prop to loose forward/half back which was always my position in my younger days. Giving 20 years away to the majority at training and most can't keep up. |

Judging by the slowing of postings on here, most people lose a lot and then get to a weight from which they are not able to lose more weight - or settle on a weight at which they are satisfied. Or give up on it and turn back into fatties!

hello all.
quick update. this thread has been a positive read for me. it helped understand weight and more importantly health, it also highlighted the pitfalls and cyclic behavior. weight wise im 199lbs which is no massive loss but i feel far more importantly my diet is slowing changing. gone are the frys every day and i know i could never ever do that again!!what was i thinking:) ill still have one a month or if i feel like it staying at a hotel or whatever but i prefer the porridge and fruit. the slow release of the carbs keep me full and cut out the mid morning sausage rolls and **** like that. havent really got round to changing much else that i can claim is long term but i have started to enjoy fruit as snacks again and try to avoid processed foods. sweets, crisps and the odd bar are what i need to cut out but im happy that positive changes are being made. one factor that is probably the most destructive in my health is the drinking, i was able to read through some of my posts and notice it was the binge drinking that was causing me to put my health second. i would gain calories by consumption then when hungover i would crave and eat crap, i also had to factor in the other detrimental effects of the alcohol and lifestyle and i decided to stop drinking to evaluate the benefits. it hasnt been easy but 7 weeks today and the results are staggering! intense fatigue was one the hardest things to get over alongside the constant brain niggling excuses to chill out and have a beer :) but that has eased considerably and its not as hard and now im toying with the idea of keeping this up as long as possible. i didnt have a chronic drink problem but after 7 weeks of abstaining and a fresher outlook i can admit that the alcohol was damaging my wellbeing in more ways than im prepared to admit at present. i hope when or if i return to drinking that it will be much more sociable and healthy. anyways it has made a massive difference in the health and i would like to pass that on , i feel the weight loss if i want it will be much easier and inevitable if i keep my current lifestyle. it has been 100% this thread that got me thinking about my diet and health and it kept me motivated reading the posts of every single person that contributed. so keep posting for others who may drop by and dont let the thread die :) |

on a fast day here - my weight is actually going up at the moment as i am doing quite a bit weight training but my measurements are going down still. don't always rely on scales.
Up to 3 24 hr fast days a week now (mon/wed/fri) and still not eating breakfast. it is very easy. I don't subscribe to the 600 cals protocol though, someone ha sjust made that figure up. I usually have a massive meal after the end of my fast. Keep going chaps. |
