so how does this work? I'm in big need of a sxxitload of weightloss and improvement to blood pressure and blood sugars?
do you just fast with nil cals for 2 chosen days per week- say a Monday and Wednesday and then just do your normal eating on other days? |

'The Men Who Made Us Fat' is being repeated on BBC2 at 11:20pm tonight.
Again; well worth watching. Jacques Peretti explores how decisions (many being political) made 40 plus years ago have had such an impact on the health and weight of people today: "Peretti travels to America to investigate the story of high-fructose corn syrup. The sweetener was championed in the US in the 1970s by Richard Nixon's agriculture secretary Earl Butz to make use of the excess corn grown by farmers. Cheaper and sweeter than sugar, it soon found its way into almost all processed foods and soft drinks. HFCS is not only sweeter than sugar, it also interferes with leptin, the hormone that controls appetite, so once you start eating or drinking it, you don't know when to stop. Endocrinologist Robert Lustig was one of the first to recognise the dangers of HFCS but his findings were discredited at the time. Meanwhile a US Congress report blamed fat, not sugar, for the disturbing rise in cardio-vascular disease and the food industry responded with ranges of 'low fat', 'heart healthy' products in which the fat was removed - but the substitute was yet more sugar." http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01jxzv8 |

I saw that Tommy...very interesting.
Lose weight then put it back on. |
|
By:
Aye, Crisp: Lose weight then put it back on - ad nauseum - so you want to lose it again and are therefore forever lining the coffers of the diet industry charletons.
|
|
By:
Easily done. I've shifted a bit of timber recently but how I long for the days of scotch eggs and crisps.

a word abouyt fasting ...
i'm no expert ,but was always told never fast on just water ... was told to pick one item ...eg apples ,and eat them instead ,so maybe not a true fast but with fewer problems . apparently fasting with water releases toxins too quickly into the system . maybe worth checking out folks |
|
By:
how bout a red wine diet?
say- 2 bottles a day and nothing else - except water would that work? |
|

Jacques Peretti explores how decisions (many being political) made 40 plus years ago have had such an impact on the health and weight of people today:
Actually the blame lies squarely with the scientific community, 98 percent of whom took the bribes, toed the lines, took the promotions and tenures, and more importantly, discredited any dissenters. Only changed tack when forced to 50 year late when the lie was no longer defensible. |

Of course not all were corrupt, many are just incompetent.

Second part of 'The Men Who Made Us Thin' on BBC2 at the moment.
|
|
By:
that made us thin thing is interesting but massively slanted to fit their own agenda. simply saying that diets "dont work" is a ridiculous statement. a healthy diet is a diet and definitely does work. saying that most people put weight back on proves nothing, obviously most people put it back on, because most people that are trying to lose weight eat a load of ****. otherwise theyd all be thin in the first place.
|
|
By:
I wouldn't say he is saying 'diets don't work' rather just giving the history of the multi-billion pound industry it's become in the last 40 years or so.
The 2nd part repeat of his excellent series 'The Men Who Made Us Fat' is on BBC2 now. |

Well Capt_F
I was thinking of resurrecting this thread as well. I started last January at 14st 12lb, and on May 17th I was 13st 2lb...was very happy with it....would update this thread regularly. Things went belly-up (no pun intended ) for a while after May 18th - personal reasons, pretty nasty car crash so while I was not incapacitated I had restricted movements for 4-5 weeks, and with all the associated going-ons I stopped dieting as regularly and stopped walking (which I was doing in conjunction). However, when back to normal I've continued. I'd fast at least once a week and 3/4 of the time twice. Haven't walked as regularly until the last few weeks where I'm back to walking 5 miles (1.5 hours) about 5 times a week. Its the same as you - weight is constant at 13st - 13st 2lb. I'm happy with that for now as I eat and drink whatever I like 5 days a week. For me, -- I find the fast days easy, in fact I quite like them! I feel like I'm giving myself a rest, not "dieting". I do them no problem whatsoever -- Appetite has certainly lessened - on normal days I enjoy my food a lot but dont/cannot eat as much as I used to! -- Pleased that I'm eating all natural foods including plenty of natural fat (no low-fat this, low-fat that) -- It's a success for me because its a normal part of my life-style, no real effort. -- Want to lose another stone - will wait until January and do some serious walking, cut-down on bread a little bit and see where it brings me. Once reached I would expect fasting would maintain me at 12 stone or so |
