Hi everyone. I'm not really into spirits and prefer to stick to pints. I fully understand what you're saying Alpha and need to point out that Monday is a far from normal for me these days. I've stopped the processed food and only eat fresh veg and fruit with fish while chicken is the only meat I eat.
I was basically beating myself up for going off the rails on Monday but also that I accept it's a bumpy road and I'm not giving up because of it.As mentioned in previous posts I fully expect there will be many more times like that along the way.I guess there's a part of me that thinks if I managed to keep my weight where it is it wouldn't be the end of the world as I feel so much healthier nowadays.Having said that I fully intend to carry on and lose at least another couple of stone. I've not smoked for three years and have cut down my drinking from about 80 pints a week to about 15.In an ideal world I shouldn't drink at all but I'm not prepared to go that far as I enjoy a pint and have the attitude what's the point in giving up everything. Most of us over Christmas may struggle a bit but it's about getting through it and carrying on in the New Year. Good luck everyone as always. |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Delighted with progress. This week I had virtually no alcohol which helped though I had a couple of large (ish) Indian meals. Fasted Thursday with about 400 cals and Monday with 200 cals. Most pleased that the weight is dropping off in the area I want it to ie my beer belly, though the downside is that my once tight trousers are starting to fall down and I look like one of those "cool" teenagers with my underpants showing. |

Just had a quick look and it appears there are only 35 more popular threads than this one in chit chat so it goes some ways to showing the level of interest that has been shown here.Top stuff everyone.
Day 121 for me and I find myself amazed at how fast (excuse the pun)the time has flown by.Had a better Monday but far from perfect but I did manage to get a couple of walks in which appear to have helped for a good week this week resulting in a 2 lb loss. Weighing in at a not quite so fat bstard 14 stone 9 lbs ![]() Best of luck everyone |

just had a quick glance at this thread but will rad it properly when i get the time
bigmo , are you a type 2 diabetic mate ? i just caught a few of your posts . if you are fasting are you not experiencing low b/s or hypoglycaemia ? just wondered |
|
By:
Hi clouded leopard. I am type 2 diabetic and at the start this was my biggest concern. When I started this I was checking my levels about 6 times a day and the one thing that became clear was it seemed in my case to help. My levels are so much better and steady since I started fasting.
My problem now is I forget to check my levels as much as I should because I feel so much better but when I do it's always spot on.Having said that I eat so much healthier nowadays that I'm pretty confident it will be ok. I wouldn't want to go round convincing other diabetics to do what I've done as I shouldn't be giving advice out like that and I think I read on the net that fasting isn't ideal but it's worked for me. |

hi bigmo
what was you weight before you started fasting ? been type 2 for 3 years ( now on mets, glics and lantus insulin) but went undiagnosed for possible just as long before that ! i used to fast quite regularly but now i would find it impossible as i would hypo by lunchtime. i'm pretty athletic and work out a lot so need to keep small carbs pumping round. obviously eveyone.s body is different so just wanted to find out how you're doing it |

Starting weight of 17 stone 9 lbs and I've lost 3 stones to date.I no longer eat processed food at all and the biggest change for me would be stopping cheese as I ate far too much of it.For me I guess I now eat as they keep telling you to eat in that I have fresh veg and fruit with fish or if I have meat it's only chicken.
Maybe I'm just luckier than other diabetics? |

yep too much cheese , milk , dairy really aint that good for anyone but worse for vascular sufferers
i drink sugar free almond milk which is expensive but far better than pregnant drugged up cows milk ! still have a little dash of cows in my tea tho ![]() something that really helped change my system was introducing some raw green foods ... broccoli , sprouts etc sounds worse than it is . plenty of raw nuts and seeds aswell sounds like you're doing well tho . keep it up mate ![]() |

cloudy leapord.
have you ever heard of paleo? lots of success stories regarding diabetics with paleo. also good for fat loss |
|
By:
yep , thats what i'm on about d13
v difficult to be 100 % paleo but really worth doing as much as you feel comfortable with get amazing energy |
|
By:
you dont need to do it 100%.
80%+ over a couple of years has resulted in a big transformation for me |
|
By:
80 % is a cracking
find it harder when it's cold my body yearns for cooked/comfort food/energy bit more carby due to burning off much more in the winter but it thrives in the summer from a raw diet what do you do eat in winter months d13 ? |
|

Anyone try healthy smoothies? mixtures of fruit, veg, water, ice cubes and I add whey protein in just one of them per day. I try to get 2 a day at least. Actually very filling and I would recommend you guys giving them a go as a healthy meal option. You get all the goodness and cut down on calories
|
|
By:
mainly stews, chillis, soups, meat veg
i get meat online every other week and a veg box every week. i live off bacon as well. usually mix it with all my veggies. its pretty easy when you design meals etc.. |
|
By:
sounds similar to me d13 ..
bacon freezer full of gloucester old spot ! do you touch any bread or dairy at all mate ? |
|
By:
no bread for about 6 months now. dont miss it
ditched dairy about 3 months ago and whenever i have it now i have a pretty bad reaction so i try not to have it i do like cheesecake though |
|
By:
How behind am I, never heard tell of ordering a veg box but looks good. Going to sign up to this abel and cole site now

Does juicing veg take away all the fiber?
I'll stick with this 5/2 diet. next mon/thurs i'll fast, and on xmas day eat my dinner and boxing day it's a running buffet. this link explains about the 5/2 diet in about 10 mins. https://audioboo.fm/boos/910838-michael-mosely-talks-about-the-benefits-of-fasting |
|
By:
Yes juicing does take out the fibre, you could just eat some of the veg/fruit or add some milled chia seeds to the juice.
|
|
By:
Keep the left over fiber in the fridge and add them to smoothies throughout the week. Trying to get into juicing veg's but at the stage were its rank to drink, been told once you get on to it, its fine though so will stick with it
|

^^
add carrots or apples to sweeten the veg. tastes better my understadning though is that eating the whole fruit is much better for you than jucing |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Week 8 14st 2lbs Happy with the 1lb loss. Had two fast days. Thursday, for the 1st time on a fast day, I had virtually the full 600 cals. Had a heavy night out on Saturday and greasy breakfast Sunday and by Monday morning I had put 2lbs on. So Monday I had a complete fast day with only semi skimmed milk in coffees for calories. Big test will be the Christmas period and I'll be pleased with no weight gain. I think I can find fast days but there may be heavy drinking sessions around them |
|
By:
Well done the man. I agree that not putting weight on over Christmas will be an achievement. My weigh in day is Thursday and then I might sign off until the New Year.

Day 107
13 stone 10 lb 2lb loss Merry Christmas all |
|
By:
Well done all.
That's me finished Week 13, now at target weight of 95 Kilos. Started 113 Kilos, so 18 Kilos gone in 13 weeks. Really hammered the walking as well as the fasting and I probably do 5 or 6 miles a day, up to 2 hours a day walking so I think that has gone a long way towards the weight loss. I have been doing 5/2 day fasting with water only on fast days so have decided to come down to 1 day a week as I still enjoy the fasting, but don't want to lose much/ any more weight. Hope all have a Merry Christmas and can get stuck in now that we know how to get the timber off ;-) |
|
By:
Just had a Christmas Eve weigh-in and I have gained 3lbs in December. Not surprised really as I didn't bother with the abstinence from alcohol this month as I would normally do and have had the same problems as most of the country with the flooding. Not much of an incentive to diet when you are not sure if you can get back to your home at the end of the day. I live in the soggy south and we have had a real battering. Twice in the last few days I have had to row across the lake that has formed over the road to my house in a borrowed boat. It really has been that bad. No fun.
Anyway never mind all that. Christmas brings its own rules and I won't be bothering too much with self-restraint over the next week. A new start in the new year. Merry Christmas to all and well done to all the festive fasters. |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Week 7 14st 3lbs Week 8 14st 2lbs Week 9 14st 2lbs Happy with no gain considering the time of year. Had a fast Thursday and Sunday but some long drinking sessions Friday and Christmas Eve and plenty of food Christmas Day. If I can get through this next week with no gain I'll be very pleased. Pre-season rugby training starts in the New Year so that should help. |
