well done chaps.
been reading some interesting stuff that suggests that eating carbs in the morning is bad for fat loss in relation to eating carbs later on in the day. could be the reason behind rapid weight/fat loss with fasting as I assume everyone has a few days where they dont have breakfast and lunch and those that are skipping breakfast every day are seeing very good results. |

Thats very interesting d13phe ( or may i call you just d13
)..going to switch to omelettes for breakfast this week to test that theory.Weighed in this morning at 11-12 which is just a lb gain on the week so thats ok and proves to me you can basically eat what you want on non fasting days providing you put in the exercise as well.My other half has also put on a lb and shes a bit pi$$ed because she eats far more sensibly than me and is totally tea total.Wondering why i ate far more than normal last week i suddenly realised why.I love my cricket with a passion and i stayed up through most of the nights leading to extra snacks being necked when i should have been a bye byes so next week i shall make a concerted effort to sit there cradling a pintpot of water and a golden delicious..well done to all taking part in this adventure and keep posting. |

Ah, I can post again. I have been unable to for 24 hours. A browser problem it seems.
Well done mr man. The first stone comes off really quickly and the rest will slip away nice and steadily without too much effort. Have you got a target weight in mind? My extra 4lb from the holiday has gone in only two days. On Sunday I was just not hungry, feeling still rather bloated from a week without much self-restraint and almost no exercise. Oddly enough I didn't feel in the mood for a drink either. Monday was a fast day and I breezed through that. Tuesday morning and back to my pre-holiday weight. Easy. On Friday I start my annual alcohol-free run up to Christmas. The first two days are usually a bit of a pain but it soon becomes effortless. Curious to see if that has any extra effect. Twizzle, I am definitely not a teacher, but perhaps not-so-bigmo could teach us all a thing or two. |

I'll be happy at 14st. Used to play pro rugby league and I was more than happy with a solid 15st 7lb. However, although I still play amateur the weight had stayed the same but the body went flabby without the intense training and too much drinking.

Thanks for the nice comments but I'm sure it wont be too long before it becomes apparent just how bad my spelling and grammar really is.Well done the man and good luck with it.
That's quite an interesting point re the carbs d13phe and something I'll have to think about if I don't record a loss again this week. It's been a couple of weeks now since I started having a toast for breakfast on fast days to cut my fasting from 36 hours to 24 hours so maybe it's having a bigger negative effect than I imagined. Good luck as always to everyone. |

i found it quite an interesting as i am currently doing quite a lot of low carbs days and the odd carb feeding time, usually after exercise.
seeing some great results. it is amazing how the body changes when you don't eat carbs/processed food. and its easy to do. Replaced pasta with courgette spaghetti and rice/mash can be made with cauliflower which actually has more taste. i have not eaten bread in about 6 months and I don't miss it. It has no nutritional value so therefore I don't eat it. honestly never felt better. keep going chaps. |

Well done topnag and the man and good to see everyone's progress.
That is 10 weeks done for me on strict 5/2 with just water on my fast days and weigh in yesterday at 98 Kilos. Started at 113 Kilos so where the loss has slowed last few weeks, I only really want to get to 95 Kilos anyway so still happy with progress. If I get to 95k I am just going to carry on anyway as feeling generally better and enjoying the fasting so it's about more than just the weight loss, but it is nice not to be a fat chucker anymore. Seems some other lads weight loss slows after initial couple of stones. Mrs coxn has lost 4 pounds and is noised up as it's less than me but she has only been at it a couple of weeks and does very little exercise so that sounds about right to me, told her she is going in the right direction anyway. Keep at it lads, all the best. |

you should read down the thread. its been proven that women respond better to shorter fasts than men, i.e. 16-20 hours |

I will look into the 16/8 fasts you mentioned earlier and let her know. Cheers |

I found a link and watched the program last night.
can someone say this is right. have your 2 fast days so their not together. ie;mon/thurs. have 500/600 cals all in 1 meal. drink water, black tea,and herbal teas throughout the day? on the other 5 days of the week eat normal. |
|
By:
Yes, that's about it, although I don't think the 600 cals have to be in one meal.
|
|
By:
I could easily do this. I might give it a go.
Porridge for breakfast with a little maple syrup. Scrambled eggs and grated cheese for dinner. That would total about 500/600 calories. I'll start it tomorrow ![]() I'll have to stop nibbling on nuts or that will bump the calories up. |
|
By:
thanks Fenway
i'll start on thurs. i should be easy to keep up. |

Starting weight 15st 9lbs
Week 1 14st 12lbs Week 2 14st 11 lbs Week 5 14st 9lbs Week 6 14st 5lbs Had a total fast Thursday which was particularly difficult as my daughter had a birthday at Pizza Hut and her and friends didn't get through all their pizzas. Previously I would have had my own and finished the lot off. Had a boozy night on Saturday and fasted Monday with just a 180 cal bowl of soup. Tuesday morning I didn't feel hungry so the fast continued until mid afternoon. Very happy with the 4lb loss as apart from a couple of walks there was no exercise. |

I know chit chatters dont like leaving the house, but isnt it easier to eat normally and do some exercise?
![]() |
|
By:
it depends what you define as normally and exercise.
your weight/body fat is determined primarily by what you eat, not how you exercise. Fasting is a very easy way of limiting the calories/junk that people put into their body. It is also a good way of training the brain that you don't need food all the time, something that our brain has been tricked into by countless advertisements telling us that we are hungry. It also has major health benefits for longevity. I believe fasting coupled with a clean diet and weight training is the fat loss bible but fasting is a bit of a hack for fast weight loss. |

Day 114 and I have to report no weight loss this week. I haven't cheated once on my fast days throughout but Monday's are becoming a massive problem for me.The more I try to reason with myself regarding not drinking so much the more I seem to stick two fingers up to myself.I'm trying to cut down to four pints but ended up drinking eight then coming home to two spicy chicken pieces, potatoes and veg followed by half a tub of Cart D'or ice cream and three custard creams. Doesn't help does it?
The exercise front is not happening either due to a chest infection that I can't seem to shake off.On the positive side I'm as good as three stone lighter and feel better because of it and still intend to see this through.I fully intend to get out walking everyday as soon as I can as I reckon that will be the difference as it stands to whether I lose any weight or not. Being realistic if I get through Christmas with no weight gain I'll be happy and ready to kick start things again going into the new year. Well done everyone and good luck. |

No weight gain though mo
keep it going your'e doing GREAT! |

big mo
that sitting/feeding was probably about 3000-4000 calories so not putting on weight is a big positive i think ![]() |
|
By:
Bigmo- do you never think about switching from pints to spirits for your pub visits? Could make a massive difference as 8 pints lager is about 1500 cals, but 8 vodka diet cokes is about 400 cals.
I switched from Cider to Vodka/ Diet coke when starting this fasting as I also like a scoop a couple of times a week and I think that is has had a big effect on the weight I am losing. Missus says belly has gone down as well as the overall weight loss. Maybe you don't like spirits, I never(thought I) did but once you get used to the smaller drink- ie not 'horseing it' down in 2 minutes and take yer time I actually prefer it, don't get as swerved up on the spirits I have found. Maybe worth a try if you want to keep losing and going to the boozer a lot, but as lads above say you are not putting on any so still going well. Keep at it mate. |

Zazu asked if it was not easier to eat normally and do some exercise. In addition to d13phe's reply I would say this. If you are eating "normally" and taking exercise to keep in shape then good for you. However if you are living that way then you would have to accept that if you are exercising to burn off fat then that is because you are consuming too much in the first place. The biggest surprise to me since I started this process is that I have been eating too much in the past.
OK, when you have stopped laughing at the overweight bloke who has just realised that over-eating was the cause of his condition, here is why. In previous posts I have told about my healthy eating way of life over the last three decades, from the muesli and soya milk breakfasts in the morning through to the steamed fish and veg dinners in the evening. All my life I have been very aware of what I ate. I had never given any thought to how much of it I ate. I did not think that eating "healthy" food would make me fat. It did. I see two parts to this process. First is to lose the excess and second to maintain it. Four months ago the prospect of being on a permanent diet would have appalled me. What kind of life is it to have to ask yourself all the time questions like " Am I allowed this?" "Should I have only two potatoes and not three?" "Why can't I go out to the pub with my mates on the weekend?" Living this way is just so much more appealing. Two days of self-control out of seven is surely not too much for anyone to manage. And for my money it beats the hell out of slogging away in the gym to knock off the excess. Prevention is always better than cure. |

Not so Bigmo, it's great you're losing lots of weight, but punishing your liver and kidneys and clogging your arteries up with saturated fat and cholesterol kind of negates the fat loss. Looking good on the outside isn't much good when you're insides are in a mess.
