I dont know the girl at all, she is a relative on my wifes side. We dont know much more than whats been reported but we know the tension it is creating. The media seem to misquote information deliberately just to add to the tension. It gets people talking and suspicions heated. |

The area up to that particular tram stop can leave you feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere. They would have found cctv footage by now if she had got on the tram. |

The BBC covered the story this morning saying new photos of Tia had been released. They then went on to show the grainy cctv still from the day before Tia went missing and another photo which has been plastered around the media for days. This has been in the media domain for a couple of days. So even here the BBC are showing how inadequate they are.

I think if she was with friends there would have been some contact by now.
Just to add that the papers never mentioned Stuart does not drive, which would make it extremely difficult to get away with whatever may be suggested. |

Should add it is appalling that this is getting such little coverage - undoubtedly because of the Olympics. The media are only interested in having enough to fill airtime/pages.

Just like to add my hopes, for what they are worth here, that things take a positive turn in this case.
AG, being closish to something being reported in the news is a real eye-opener to how the press works. The lazy inaccuracies and unjustified slants that they habitually employ are quite astounding to the people involved but the wider readership are inclined to just accept it as the truth. The old adage of not-believing everything you read... etc. is never more clearly illustrated than when you see it in action before your very own eyes. |

Exactly Clouseau. The distorted reports on a daily basis must be staggering. The press have generated a doubt and claim conflicting statements from Stuart. Did he walk her or did she leave on her own. To me they deliberately misinterpret information foe sensational effect. Stuart has said that she left on her own. Yet the papers suggest his father claims to have been told otherwise. I believe he walked with her on the thursday and this information has been confused into fridays timeline.

I hope she's found OK.
It's quite true that the papers distort, mislead and misinform on a daily basis. They can also though, hint at information they're not legally allowed to give. Trial by media is utterly, intrinsically unfair, and I loath it. Yet...well I just hope they find her wherever she is. |

Yahoo? Hardly renowned as your first port of call for the latest and best news.
This story is well know, it has been everywhere (imo). Also, do you know how many kids go missing every year? If the media covered them all, to any depth, then that is all the media would be. Once the story is out for a few days, it becomes less about the ability to help any more, and more to do with satisfying people curiosity - which isn't necessarily right. This case being headline news in every media, every day, does not help find her i'm afraid. And I for one would find it odd if all other stories were drowned out. |

The fact of the matter is that in the United Kingdom it is not safe to allow children to go out on their own at any time of the day. It is no good saying you should be able to because as this case demonstrates- it is not safe. Just like the Maddie case in Spain where it was not safe to leave a child alone at night.
Because the one time you let the child go out or leave a child alone- this is what happens. I have the greatest sympathy for you and the family. I hope everything turns out well. But if it doesn't and they catch the perpetrator, the human rights bleeding hearts club and the Criminal Rights Society will ensure that the punishment will not be sufficient. I gave up on the UK years ago. |

12 does seem young to go into town on your own, and I assume she has probably been doing to for a couple of years perhaps?
Or is that what all 11/12 year olds do? I didn't. Didn't want to, didn't need to, wouldn't have been allowed to (probably). |

Ok Magic- you are entitled to your opinion. But the odds are that if she had been escorted, this thread would not exist. Also- if a child is escorted by a RESPONIBLE adult who is looking out for the child's safety i.e keeping the child WELL AWAY from a road, the odds are that child will not be run over!

They seem like a pretty rough/messed up family. Call me a snob or elitist if you must.
The grandparents are only 37 and 46! The step grandfather used to date the grandma's daughter! She stays with her grandmother every weekend! The house is a sh1thole! She seems too streetwise for a young lass. These to me are all stand out points - I'm just not used to these things. |
