My understanding is the 'Lapland criminals' are to be released from prison early as one of the jurors was texting during the trial....(not actually in the court room)....I just wondered if the same would apply in this case ?

The article I read about that said that the texting was going on during the trial, while people were in the witness box giving evidence.

think one of the jurors was texting her boyfriend in the public gallery. i'd have thought you'd be searched for any recording devices before entering.
back to this case. over a day out now. you'd think if they don't come back this afternoon they really are split and he's gonna get away with it. |

yes, I was thinking this morning that I can quite easily see the jury being split down the middle after the directions given by the judge.

very surprised if they are deadlocked but it's looking that way,
but he dodged more than 80 questions with 'can't remember' or ' don't remember' and previously he had tried to frame the landlord. He has been calculating and does whatever suits his purpose. Hard to believe she would have invited him in and then screamed if he only made a clumsy attempt to kiss her. But his defence lawyer and the summing up by the judge may well have split the jury (?) Thought they would have charged him with murder by now. |

yep tell. seems like they only came up with this story after his dna was found all over the body and there was no way out.
before that he did everything to avoid detection including pointing the police in the direction of the landlord. |

I think it's hard to be _sure_ he intended serious harm. That being the case, it'll be manslaughter is my guess.

even though the law doesn't say it i would have thought in a case like this he'd have convince the jury he didn't mean to kill her rather than the other way around. it'd be surprising if he gets the benefit of the doubt.

still thinking he's looking at a longish stretch even if the jury buy his story. chucking the body by the side of the road adding to the family's distress and leading the police on a wild goose chase over the landlord are aggravating features. won't be 6 years out in 3 for sure.

They are right to take time making such an important decision for all involved Plenty of examples of jurys taking decent length of time in other murder trials |
