**Spinks beat Muhammad Ali for the championship in February 1978, but then chose a rematch against Ali in September rather than face Norton, the top contender. The W.B.C. who wanted a Spinks-Norton fight for their championship, withdrew its recognition of Spinks as champion. So Ken became champion by default in March. He lost it to Larry Holmes on June 9th (my parents wedding anniversary) So he was Champ, but never won a title fight. |

The Ali rematch was when he created history and became the first heavyweight boxer to win the title 3 times.

I thought Norton was a great fighter.
I seem to remember he was being touted for a possible role in a film (Mandingo?) due to his great physique. If I remember correctly, I think he had a bad car accident that finished his career? |
