Our regular one near here, changed ownership just before the first one was advertised.
I didn't know.
He's from Sri Lanka - a very pleasant chap - but his brother answered the phone that day and is a bit dozy, apparently, so he never ordered it.
Hence, trying to get one from the main town - Hanley.
It will probably be a collectors edition by the time I get it!

Great news, AITL!
B-B said I'd be able to, but as I've never tried with one before, I thought I'd ask first.

Ken, from what I can see in the paper, it's on Sky Sports 2 at 8:30 am - Sunday.
By:

When: 03 Dec 05 22:00
Tommy, yes I have just checked and you are corret. Thanks. Obviously not live?
By:

When: 03 Dec 05 22:03
I don't know Ken
It doesn't look like it.
Or, it maybe the time delay that Sky don't know exactly when the fight will actually start?
Someone on 'Other Sports' may know.

hasnt boxing got really boring, no personalities, no outstanding boxers, of the modern era, perhaps eubanks, he stepped up a gear till he got rich, really you have to go back to ali frazier norton foreman. hagler, leonard. boxing is slowly becoming an also sport.
the current heavyweight scene has become a farce, tyson will be the champ again, the promoters will see to that just to generate money into the game.
when i was a kid everyone knew the british champ, who does now.
amir khan, ricky hatton, great, but, hardly the excitement of alis era.

I wish I could watch it myself HG it sounds like a good fight.

Radio 5 NOW - talking about boxing.

When: 04 Dec 05 09:10
Well, that was very interesting.
Lewis says that he's got no plans to return to the ring again, but he always listens to what is offered. Currently - a new fight about once a month.

Danny Williams always comes over as a nice bloke.
It's going to be a hard fight to call next weekend, as we just don't know about Audley Harrison (who's he ever fought of note?) and Williams either fights pretty well, or pretty badly.
By:
Tommy Toes
When: 04 Dec 05 09:13
There's one thing for sure about Williams, he's been doing plenty of training for this fight.
He was pushing his car this morning with his wife and kids in it, with the engine turned off - just to increase his fitness.
He did get plenty of offers with passers-by asking if they could help though!

I watched the 1952 Jersey Joe Walcott v Rocky Marciano fight earlier.

Joe wasn't a bad boxer, while Rocky was 10 years younger and slugged away throughout.

To compare different eras is often futile, but Joe never threw a combination of more than 3 punches. He had Rocky on the deck in round 1, and in trouble later on before a devastating right hand knocked Joe out cold.

In the scenario of Ali v Maricano, it is my firm belief that Ali, much faster, a lot bigger, and also throwing better combinations than Joe, and also given Rockys full on style, he would have cut Marciano to pieces inside 7 rounds.

Even if Rocky survived, imo, he would have lost by unanimous points decision.

(Off to watch 'Rome' now)
By:

When: 04 Dec 05 23:19
I think Ali would have beaten Marciano too, AITL.
By sheer guile,

Ali was the master technician in out thinking his opponents, even when he was in the ring and it had not been a pre-conceived plan.
The only other fighter I've seen who comes near Ali in out witting his opponent with brain power, is Sugar Ray Leonard.

Boxing later:

Ch4 02:45 - 03:15: KOTV - Boxing magazine.
By:

When: 05 Dec 05 01:27
For my money it was Marvellous Marvin Hagler V Hitman Hearns. A brutal classic and the knockdown was sublime, Hearns eyes were rolling like a fruit machine!

A close 2nd was Gatti v Ward, a couple of absolute beauts, no quarter asked and non given

i can see the future of heavyweight boxing now, cant see danny williams beating audly in the biggest domestic showdown in a decade, shows how bad it has become.
so where does the winner go.
probably on a merry go round with don king. holyfield, klincho, tyson, billed as the the final showdown.
why are there not any heavyweights out there now who could even lick alis boots.
By:
Tommy Toes
When: 07 Dec 05 23:22
Hello**
Most of the heavyweights of today would never have even been allowed in the ring in the 70s against 'the greats', otherwise they would have ended up in hospital.
