They did mention the scoring in amateur boxing tonight - and how it is still sometimes a complete farce.
Steve Bunce was saying that there is a bloke in charge now who is trying to introduce scores being shown at the end of each round, so that people know what the judges are doing. |

** it's a very good point about most kids today using there computers instead of joining sports clubs or doing extra training at school after hours.
When I was a kid I was rarely home after school finished as I was either participating in a team event against another school or doing extra training. I joined Stoke Athletic Club when I was about 13 as I was pretty good at discus throwing. Unfortunately, the stadium was quite a way from my school and when I'd finally got there, I just had to go out on my own around the back of the stadium where the throwing events were held and throw on my own as there was never a sports coach available. Eventually, I decided I might as well stay at school after hours or take a discus home with me and throw it in the back field, as I wasn't getting any tuition at Stoke A.C. When I was about 14 or 15 I got picked to represent the city for the schools Midland's area championships at a stadium in the West Midlands,or Alderley Edge, I think it was (I can never remember places!). I had 3 no throws - due to being a little out af the throwing sector lines each time. The judge was so sorry for me that he recorded my final throw just to let me know how far I'd thrown. I would have won the contest easily if I'd just recorded 1 throw. Unfortunately, I had a knee operation a few months later and never recovered sufficiently in time to carry on throwing before I left school. I never threw the discus again. I often fancy going to a stadium even now and having a throw. It's a little late in the day now though! |

You should go Tommy. Just to see how the muscles cope with it. Me and some of my mates have fun and still spar now and again with old bag gloves in their gardens back home in London. Summer only...lol. We end up knackered and only our pride is hurt when we catch one wrong or don't bob or weave quick enough. Even better when their sons join in. Some of the younger ones enjoy playing the part of George Foreman in a rope-a-dope round, and as they are aged about 10-13, and never trained properly, we let them whack away for 3 minutes. The older ones who learnt to box don't get afforded this luxury as they have good balance, techinque, and do hit hard, and us old timers can't handle three minutes of that...:O. Great fun nonetheless, but we do get reprimanded by their mum if we 'accidentally' let a punch go. ]:)

AITL, that sounds like great fun!
However, I think I'm probably best not trying it, as I'd probably launch myself into space or something when I turned in the circle - see the pub thread from about 17:32 to get my drift. |

I watched KOTV the other night. It's a very good programme.
Ricky Hatton was on talking about his upcoming fight this Saturday. I looked to see if it is being shown on terrestrial tv. No it's not. Only Sky viewers can watch it. They also showed a few clips of a British boxer - Matt Macklin - who fought an American over there last week (Little) and won. He looks pretty good. |

I saw earlier that Johnny Nelson is fighting Cantello on Saturday.
Guess which channel it's being televised on...ITV4 - whatever that is. For goodness sake - bring boxing back to the main stream. |
|
By:
I apologise for getting Nelson's opponent - Vincenzo Cantatore - name wrong yesterday.
I just hope that Radio 5 are going to be covering the Hatton fight. |
|

It doesn't look like Ricky will be boxing for at least 6 months now, after having plastic surgery for his cuts.
His cornermen did a very good job with them during the fight though. |
