Sabre, is that on one of the videos you have?
I'd have loved to see that. |
By:
Yes TT . i taped them all last year , but i have a terrible habit of not labelling the tapes so i come across them by accident [i've loads of tapes]. Trust me that series was brilliant because you have footage ,eyewitness accounts ,social commentary about the politics surrounding the boxers at the time etc.AITL recommended that the series is available as a box set at Woolworths as it was a BBC production. You won't regret it TT!!!!!!

Not really a boxing man, but saw the most amazing fight maybe a year or two ago.
One guy was this black fella from the southern US, really technical, neat fighter. The other was this Nicaraguan guy who was a complete street brawler, no technique whatsoever, and didn't need any. Apparently, he smokes 10 a day even when he's at training camps. Anyway, the black guy won on points in a contest that swung one way then the other - at one point, the Nicaraguan even gave the American guy a free shot at him, just to take the p*ss. If anyone actually knows the names of these boxers, I'd appreciate knowing. Cheers |

HM - sorry I can't help you with that one, I don't have Sky.

By:
Agree TT. maybe should keep his hands higher ,but he'll do that as he progresses.

Khan is also a great lad - British and Muslim - I hope people take notice of that.
By:
Can' t be on here and watch telly - different rooms.
Cheer Amir on for me Tommy. |
By:
He has finished now, AITL - very good performance - great bloke. Seems to be taking notice of all who have his best interests at heart.
Now: Calzaghe v Ashira |
By:
My favourite fight was when 2 guys beat me up outside a club in Dublin. They broke my nose and 4 ribs but I got off several cutting remarks which no doubt did serious damage to their egos

An excellent performance by Calzaghe, considering his left was probably broken in the early rounds.

For anyone who may be interested : Larry Holmes is on BBC1 now ( News 24 interview).
By:
Sorry, it's on BBC2 - Now - very good.
By:
You would have enjoyed that, AITL.
By:
Larry said on the interview, that when he went into Ali's dressing room, after he'd lost the fight, he said to him, as he tried to give him a hug:
"Hey man...I love you" Ali said: "If you love me wyh'd you beat me up like that??!!" Great blokes, are boxers. |
By:
Ali felt the same when he fought Floyd Patterson, Tommy. You have great respect for some of your opponents but at the end of the night, you were only there to hurt them.
By:
That's the name of the game, AITL, it's great to see such respect that most boxers have for each other though.
Holmes was saying that before the fight, Ali said a few things to him that really surprised him - as they were very nasty, but he realised, he was only trying to get 'inside his head', and after the fight, they couldn't have been greater friends. Benn postively hated Eubank, when they were in their prime, but he admitted quite recently, he had the greatest respect for his boxing ability. |
By:
Khan had a human punchbag put in front of him last night. Awful spectacle.
My mum would have beaten that guy. |
By:
Kq, It's all part of the learning process and the way the fight game works though.
I was very pleased to see that Khan paid gratidude in his interview afterwards, to Mick Jelly and all the team that train him. So long as his head isn't turned, as so often happens in boxing, he should go far. He seems like a great lad. |
By:
Trust me Tommy....Warren's other boy Kevin Mitchell is the better prospect. He's been out with an injured hand for 5 months but returns to action on Sky TV on the 23rd of this month against a Polish fighter.
Watch it........he's sensational. |
By:
Kq, I'd love to, but I haven't got Sky!!
