Sports Network is delighted to announce that it has captured the signature of one of the hottest young talents in British boxing: "Kid" Kell Brook. The 18-year-old Sheffield prospect joins boxing's premier promotional organisation and will spearhead the future of the sport alongside the likes of the sensational Olympic Silver Medallist Amir Khan and the 2003 ABA Champion Kevin Mitchell..
Brook, currently undefeated in pro-eight starts, will make his Sports Network debut on the star-studded undercard of Joe Calzaghe's WBO World Super-Middleweight title defence against Evans Ashira on September 10 at the Cardiff International Arena. The charismatic teenager is already receiving accolades from some of the sports most respected quarters. Most recently, Boxing News (August 12) carried a full-page article on the young talent. Now, after signing for Sports Network he will receive the full backing of Frank Warren's publicity machine and gain the valuable terrestrial TV exposure required to turn him into a major household name. Warren enthused, "I am very, very excited to have Kell on board as I have heard so much about him from people in the game whose opinion I respect," He continued, "His father and I had a discussion about Kell and we shared the same ideas on how best to develop him," "I am looking forward to working with them building this exciting talent," "Brendan Ingle has given him a tremendous build up of late and made the obvious comparisons with a young Naz and now Amir Khan," "I am confident that Kell can go all the way and will represent the next generation of British Boxing superstars along with Amir Khan and Kevin Mitchell," "These are very exciting times and the future looks very bright indeed." |

AITL,
'Our mutual friend' has finally replied to my previous posts. I really don't think he has ever seen any other heavyweights. Now someone is calling for Bruno to come back... I despair. |
By:
Just seen it Tommy.
I think he's trying to wind our mutual friend up. |
By:
I thought that too, that's why I didn't say anything.
However, you just don't know these days...! |
By:
AITL - There's a very good piece in The Mail today by Paul Hayward regarding 'The Thrilla In Manila' and how lucky Joe was that Futch wouldn't let him go out for the 15th - in comparison to Leavander Johnson losing his life last week.
The last paragraph reads: "Johnson can't share the Manila memories with the rest of us this weekend. The best of them is not the fight itself but how it ended: the humility that pulled two brave men back from an abyss." |

Tonight's Boxing:
Ch.5 - 12:50 - 02:20 - Fight Of The Week - Featuring Junior Witter v Lovemore N'Dou |
By:
Sorry Tommy, just got back to this.
Look at these photos (lot of them). Great memories of Ali on here. Second row left side, shows how tough the game was (Marciano v Walcott) http://www.boxing-memorabilia.com/pics7.htm I could easily spend a few quid here. |
By:
Thanks for that AITL
Absolutely great photograhs. Minter even looked scared when touching gloves with Hagler! Great shots of Jack Johnson Robinson and La Motta etc too. Ali's 'I Shook Up The World', Liston, Joe, George, and others, are excellent. |

Boxing on Ch5 - Now.

Nice one TT. Witter is supposed to be better than Hatton.
By:
I enjoyed that Sabre. Good fight.
By:
And me TT. I think Witter is definitely talented but could take a leaf out of Hattons book. He seemed to want to take the blokes head off ,and hardly ever delivered any body punches ,but as i say he WILL improve.
By:
Lamont Peterson looks pretty good here against Torrecillas.

Hello lads, I don't normally watch the lighter blokes, but I watched the Witter v N'Duo fight before I went to bed. I thought that N'Duo looked a lot like the Terry Lawless fighter, Denis Andries.
Does Witter know if he's southpaw or orthodox, because he should make his mind up one way or the other. N'Duo has a steel chin, he should have been ko'd at least twice imo. The best man won quite comfortably in my book, but they were both very sloppy, throwing leather at fresh air. You can't do that at World Title level, you'll get counterpunched and it's 'goodnight Vienna' ten seconds later. Witter will go further in the game than N'Duo, who looked lke he was in his mid 30s already. But, to go further, Witter needs to really work on his balance. Boxing is not bar-room brawling, and the very last swing he took, where he landed on his a.rse, was embarassing. He needs to watch the video 'The Five Laws of Ali' closely, about a 100 times. |
By:
Hello AITL,
I agree with you on your post. They were pretty evenly matched during the middle rounds but both need work. It was funny when Witter ended up on the floor at the end, but to give him credit, he bounced up very well! I liked the comradship between them both after the end of the fight. They obviously respected each other. Lamont Peterson looks a good prospect. Again, he needs to put in a bit more work in the training ring but he has talent. |

No boxing on terrestrial television tonight.
By:
Tonight's boxing:
BBC1 - 11:35 - 01:10: Amateur Boxing - England v Italy from Sunderland. |
By:
Can't let this day pass, (although I have done now!), without mentioning it being the 30th anniversary of 'The Thrilla In Manilla'.
There is a good article in today's Mail by Ian Wooldridge on how boxers such as Louis, Ali,Tyson, and now it appears, Eubank, have been duped by various people out of all the money they ever earned from the game. Great shame. Although Ali will hopefully now live in financial comfort for the rest of his life. |
By:
I see this morning that Roy Jones Jr lost to Antonio Tarver earlier by a unanimous points decision.
This may probably mean the end of his career. I just wish his fights had been available for all to see on terrestrial television as he has obviously been a great champion in his prime. |
By:
Tonight's boxing:
Ch4 - 03:45 - Boxing magazine. They might mention something about the 30th anniversary about 'The Thrilla In Manilla' |
By:
Quick! ^
By:
It's always amazing even to see a few clips of the Ali v Frazier fight.
If anyone believes the heavyweights of today could even compete, they need their head looking at, in my view. |
By:
Just a bit of news from last night.
Sikali who was a welterweight champion was shot and killed in his home last week by robbers. I also saw the clips of the Max Cevas fight where he disposed of Nelson in the first round with a cruncher to his ribs. It looked pretty painful, but it just made you realise what a fantastic boxer Ali was, as he was able to withstand far more. |
By:
These 3-45 a.m schedules are ridiculous imo.
What do we get instead at a reasonable hour ? Poker - who gives a to$$. |
By:
Exactly, AITL.
By:
No boxing on terrestrial television tonight.
By:
Nigel Benn v Gerard McLellan was the most exciting fight I've ever seen, however it also exposed the tragic consequences of boxing.
By:
Sorry, there is boxing on later:
Ch5 - 04:00 - Fight Of The Week Classics. |
By:
It was a very decent weltereweight fight between Diaz and Davis last night from 2003.
No boxing tonight. |
By:
Tommy, any idea why such a popular and loved sport is shown at such ridiculous hours?
By:
No Ken, and it's a constant bugbear with me.
I think it's prbably because the pay per view and Sky bandits have reduced the sport in popularity. If you look back a little through this thread, they had 'The Rumble In The Jungle' on a couple of weeks ago at about 2 or 3 in the morning. One of the best fights of all time. I suppose they had 'celebrity poke yourself in the eye' on at around 9pm! |
