I thanked him Tommy, it was the least I could do, the poor chap suffers enough with his delusions.

By:
He obviously can't help it AITL.
Well done. |

I've just seen an advert for an new fortnightly boxing magazine at newsagents now:
DeAgostino's Greatest Boxers. The first edition comes with a DVD of the Rumble In The Jungle and the first Ali v Liston fight - 1.99 |
By:
I searched the magazine rack at Tesco, must have been 100 different mags, and also three shops in town.
No sign of it here yet. |
By:
I only saw the ad tonight, AITL- there was a web address to but I didn't catch it .
Very easy one though. |
By:
Tommy, I think you just saw my thread that I have just refreshed to the top
By:
No Groutch - I saw an advert on Ch.5 just before I posted my notification.
It was giving examples of all the greats you can expect to read about in the magazine. I don't have a DVD - but I'll definitely be getting the mag. |
By:
Anyone know if you get a DVD every week ,or is it just for the 1st week?
By:
I don't know Sabre - I've only seen the advert once.
It must be worth having a look at for 1.99 though. It will probably say in there if there are any more discs. |
By:
It will probably have DVDs in all the issues but go up to at least 4.99 for issue 2.
By:
I bet they still sell out! That'll show em how popular the old fights still are!
By:
Might get just the first one myself
By:
Can you imagine how many viewers would have switched on the other week if 'The Rumble' had been advertised and put on at a decent time instead of about 2 or 3 in the morning?
Sheer madness by these tv companies. |
By:
It's madness Tommy.
By:
Sorry just seen the ad ,its every fortnight not weekly.
By:
Just seen the ad again
There will be more DVDs - Regular price - 5.99 Web address: http://www.deagostini.co.uk Available from all good newsagents and W.H.Smith |

When I was about 10 (early 1970's) I seem to remember Chris Finnegan being involved in some right old tear ups with one boxer in particular - can't for the life in me remember who. Anyone know?
By:
Probably John Conteh.
They met twice and Conteh won both fights, but he wasn't fussy where he put his head in the clinches, and Finnegan, like Henry Cooper, had dodgy eyebrows. Their rematch was a bloodbath centred around Chris's eyes, and the ref stopped it in the 6th round. |
By:
No boxing on terrestrial tv tonight.

By:
AITL, have you bought a copy of 'Greatest Fights' yet?
I only ask, as I tried to order one from my newsagent on Thursday and it still hasn't arrived. It might be because the shop has just been taken over by someone who couldn't communicate in English very well, as he repeated my address completely incoherently. I did try to make him understand, but I fear I'll never get one. What with him and 'Hopalong Dragaleg' the paper girl - I don't think I'll ever get anything again. |
By:
I've been blabbering on about this book ,and forgot to buy it! Mitch88 on "Other Sports" seemed impressed. Are W H Smiths open on a Sunday ?
By:
I've got my BOXERS magazine and DVD.
I had the mother-inlaw hunting it down. It tried, but there was no escape. It didn't hit the shops until Thursday. W.H.Smith (Southend) had 150 copies and sold the lot the same day. If you order in advance you get a free binder for the Mags, a box for the DVDs, and a free DVD of 'When We Were Kings.' Issue 2 has 3 Tyson fights. |
By:
Sounds good AITL.
I still haven't received mine from the newsagent. Another phone call with little sense to be gleaned, I suppose is my next step. |
By:
I see Warren has announced Audrey is to fight Williams soon.
Oh well. We are lucky we can remember the 60s, 70s, eh? |
By:
Early reminder:
Tonight ITV1: 9:45pm - Frank Bruno: Gloves Off Continues after the news. Should be interesting. |
By:
I shall watch it, then come back on here and see how many people take the pi55.
Then ask how many of them have been heavyweight champ. |
By:
Bruno on - Now
By:
Well, I thought it was a very good programme about Frank.
Very brave of him too, to talk about his mental illness. It will probably do some good somewhere for others suffering from similar problems. I'd forgotten what a good punch Frank had. I remembered all the fights vividly when they showed the clips tonight. Such a shame he couldn't defend himself when caught. If it hadn't have been for that he would probably have been world champion for a long time, and much sooner too. I hope Frank continues to get well. |
By:
Hello Tommy, I agree, it was a good programme.
Sad that Frank had a glass jaw. If he hit you with that tremendous right hand, you went down, glass jaw or otherwise, but if you hit him, it was virtually all but over. A very popular fighter in the east end, his signed pictures are on the walls in lots of shops. I don't normally like the way Frank Warren handles fighters, but give him his due, he got Frank a title shot, and Franks dream was complete when he came home with the belt. I'm glad that 'Beaky' never showed her face. She was there for the money only imo. |
By:
Hello AITL.
Yes, I was surprised how well Warren came over in the programme. It seems like he genuinly has Frank's best interests at heart. I was thinking just after the programme, it was a strange coincidence that Tyson too has constantly had to battle with his inner demons. The toughest and best sport in the world often throws up many sorry tales. I was glad to see Frank still showed signs of his humour returning when he referred to the blisters on his right hand towards the end of the programme! Once again, I wish him "all the best." |
By:
Time for a lift, as people are now talking about Frank.

Tonights boxing:
Ch.4 - 03:15: KOTV - Boxing magazine. |
By:
An excellent programme - As usual.
They showed old clips of the Calzaghe v Eubank fight in Sheffield, when Joe won. As well as news about Rachman filing for bancruptcy - He's fighting Klitschko soon. There is a new 7 foot Russian on the heavyweight scene - I didn't catch his name. The best of all was the tribute to: 'The Thriller In Manilla'. Bert Sugar was great with his comments, as were others. As Ali said, it was: "The closest thing to dying", that he'd ever encountered. What a shame this programme was on at 3:15 in the morning. Boxing should never have sold it's soul to PPV and Sky. |

Have seen tonight that Khan is fighting twice before the end of the year.
In Glasgow and London. |
By:
Hmmm,
I've just read that Amir Khan insists that fasting for Ramadam will not weaken him as he prepares for his next fight in Glasgow in a fortnight. He says that he wil not be eating or drinking during daylight hours for a month ending on November 3rd. I hope he's right. His London debut is on December 10th, by the way. |

Harrison fights Williams the same night, and Skelton v McBride.
