I've replied to our mutual friend on 'other sports' AGAIN Tommy.
By:
I've just read your post, AITL.
Still no reply, just as there wasn't to mine from a few days ago. Perhaps he's bought some DVDs, or whatever they are called now. They just might have changed his opinion. |

Ali V Foreman on one of the terrestrial channels in the early hours.
By:
Is it really, AITL!
Looks like I'll be stopping up then. |

FOREMAN v ALI ON CH.5 NOW!!!
By:
Yep, Ali v Foreman. I have the video set too. I intend to watch this again and again.
Here we go............rope-a-dope is underway! :-) |
By:
People tend to forget that it WASNT all Foreman before the turnaround.
By:
3rd round and Ali's talking to him.
It later transpired he was saying 'Come on George, you hit like a girl'! :-) |
By:
Wow, what a majestic fighter Ali was.
THE GREATEST without a shadow of doubt. |
By:
Handspeed phenomenal
By:
And how he could ride a punch.
"Ali Bom-Ba-Ye" |
By:
Handspeed again!
By:
Ali's toying with the big lump.
By:
KQ ,did you like the timing of the commentator "Maybe the tactic of Ali is to let his opponent punch himself out?" then wallop! Priceless!
By:
No matter how many times I see that combination of punches at the end I still marvel at it.
What a knockout! |
By:
30 years later and still awesome!
By:
I've got a big soppy grin on my face ,fantastic!
By:
What a great 'after fight' interview by Ali
'He swung like a cissy' HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!! |
By:
We WILL NEVER see the likes of that man again PQ!
By:
" I'm so fast that when i flick the switch in my bedroom at night ,i'm in bed before the light goes out, thats how fast i am!"
By:
It doesn't matter how many times I see it...
That fight is something to savour. Absolutely magnificent performance by Ali. So clever. I kept rubbing my ribs early on - did anyone ever withstand such body shots, ever ? It's just got to be one of - if not the best - fights of all time. |
By:
Never indeed.
I'm just so glad I was born in 1949 and saw the guy at his peak . Younger forumites cannot possibly imagine the impact the man had on the boxing world. In and out of the ring. |
By:
I was 7 at the time ,and even then i recall [through my dad] the absolute fear people had for Ali's safety. He had to overcome a massive psyocological barrier let alone a physical one!
By:
My sincerest apologies KQ for calling you by another name. Sorry mate ,i'm horrified.
By:
Tommy, most of those shots hit his elbows but a lot got through.
I have a book here by Norman Mailer from 1975 called 'The Fight' It's his account of the lead up to the fight and the fight itself......sensational reading. |
By:
Someone on the 'Other Sports' forum thinks Audley Harrison is the best fighter he's seen.
...He can't have seen many. Goodnight Kq and Sabre, I must have a nap before the final Test match. |
By:
Seeya TT and KQ ,Be Lucky!!!!
By:
Audley who?
By:
Night guys.
By:
Kq, had to say, before I go, I have Mailers: The Time Of Our Time - includes a long chapter of 'The Fight', wonderful reading.

A tribute to The Greatest has been in the stages of preparation for a while now.
Will be posted on his birthday in 2006. |

Audrey the Snail is a bum.
(Had to post again, couldn't have my hero and that clumsy git on the same post) |

AITL, I tried to alert 'our mutual friend' about the Foreman v Ali fight, last night when it was on.
Still no response. |
By:
Good to see another Jack Johnson fan on the other thread.
By:
Somebody on a different thread asking for books on Don King.

mcguigan versus cruz. barry fighting until absolutely out on his feet in 140 degree heat.
By:
AITL is 'our mutual friend' a relation of Grotbag ?
Still not a word about Ali or Foreman. He obviously has never even heard of Jack Johnson or Primo Carnera. Oh well...let him live in 'higorance', as my dad would have said. |
By:
TT , i saw another episode of "The Fight" the other night which featured Jack Johnson alot.It went from how he learned his defensive skills as a kid in "Battle Royales" through to how he advised Schmeling on how to beat Louis.Fascinating.
