Watching the footy at the weekend, the commentator's mention of Colin Bell had me remembering a programme from the late 60's called The Dustbinmen. Brian Pringle and Trevor Bannister were in it and I remember characters called Heavy Breathing and Cheese & Egg.

Someone was a massive Man City fan and his proudest possession was a pair of old boot laces that he was convinced were Colin Bell's but probably weren't. I remember it being hilarious but it would no doubt seem pretty mediocre if viewed now.

Curry and Chips with Eric Sykes and Spike Milligan, one thing's for sure....they wouldn't show this anymore.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, and it's certainly not a show that no-one will remember, but I thought Operation Good Guys was a bit of a one-off, and probably a cult favourite. The episode involving the Christmas extravaganza and the chief insisting that all important case work be dropped in order to focus on the best costumes, dance routines etc to be employed in the event, was just pure madness and a joy to behold!

There was a kids programme called Do Not Adjust Your Set im pretty sure there was a very young Eric Idle and a girl called Denise Coffey, the theme song was a Manfred Mann tune, it was like a forerunner to Monty Pythons Flying Circus and I loved it.

Other mentions from this era
Mr Ed (talking horse)
The Beverley Hillbillies ( American )

anyone remember Saxondale ( steve coogan )

I used to love Ron and Eth in The Glums, Dunlaying.
It was an essential part of "Take it From Here" another Jimmy Edwards radio show in the '50s broadcast on Sundays. Written by Frank Muir and Denis Norden.

Yes I remember 'Saxondale' mr Punter!

Anyone remember a pre 'Royle Family' sit com, I think it was called 'Mrs Merton' starring Brian Murphy, Caroline Ahern and the one that plays her husband in Royle Family.

How about the sketch show, 'Monkey Trousers' with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

'A sharp intake of breath' (David Jason)

Anyone remember the Northern feel-good comedy 'Great Night Out' from just a few years back? It was excellent but went completely under the radar.

Mongrels. It was the only funny thing I ever saw on BBC3. A show of puppet animals living under a house, I think.
