Sledge Hammer was a joy.

For those who never discovered him, he was basically a spoof on the 'Dirty Harry' type of cop, in love with his gun. To say that Sledge was 'tough on crime' was a bit of an understatement. He believed that the death penalty was too lenient, as it still allowed the possibility of reincarnation.

Apologies if anyone has already mentioned it but Mind your Language would have the PC brigade jumping off cliffs now.
English teacher Barry Evans teaching foreign students who are all stereotypical of where they came from. Was actually quite funny.

Yep it was brilliant, got everyone at school watching it! shown at 2am in Yorkshire region, but 10.30pm in Tyne Tees, London etc so many people remember it.

The makers (who went onto make The Simpsons) wanted no laugh track for the dvd release, and I had all the episodes recorded off uk tv with no laugh track, ended up sending my tapes to Hollywood and got a thank you credit on the dvd Excited

Thought so, although I don't remember it from that far back, Tel.I was 1. Probably middlish 50's, along with the other great radio programmes of that era. (Didn't get a TV till '61)

The great "Journey Into Space". Clitheroe Kid, Ray's A Laugh, Round The Horn, etc.

One thing that's great about the internet and youtube is looking up old TV themes, that I can kind of remember.
As soon as I listen to one the memories come flooding back, very nostalgic.

I'd cry, but now I know that's verboten for real men LaughWhoops

Looking at the at that list from Kenny, another popular radio show was Educating Archie.

The Archie referred to in the title was Archie Andrews a ventriloquist dummy.
The ventriloquist was Peter Brough, and not one listener ever saw his lips move.

Most remarkable that.

I remember Archie, Dr, plus Peter Brough, but only just. I also remember the Billy Bunter series, very good it was too. I appreciated it more when I started reading the excellent Frank Richard's books about the fat owl.
