Nine runners: three trained by Willie; two by Nicky. Sir Gerhard would have won.

Nitty gritty from irish which is never ever aired by the media.
I went to the Grand National one year and, glad to have experienced it once,  vowed never again.  Customer convenience and comfort is so far away from their raison d'etre you wonder how they all put up with it.
I have to say I stopped punting at Cheltenham years and years ago, particularly a/p. An absolute lottery.  I look now for good performances with a view to Aintree.  Got me Minnehoma one year - with the emphasis on one year!  Happy
Good luck to all.

Well I’m looking forward to going again all week. Agree it’s overcrowded in most places but festival lounge which is about £30 per day gives you plenty of room, uncrowned bar and plenty of seats.

What a disappointing turn out with only 9 runners? Imagine if the Festival is over 5 days? I hope I've picked the correct one of Hendo ie location of Buckingham Palace.

This race has been billed as a Supreme of the ages.

In most years the Supreme winner has gone into the race with an official rating of 150+. This year only Dysart Dynamo is rated over 150.

A lot of the pretenders are being judged on visual rather substance.

I have struggled to get a handle on the form and to tie the contenders to each other.

I am happy to sit this race out and see what the clock tells us regarding the actual going.

Well done Strontium.
And well the owner Michael Buckley.  Such a courteous man in interview and his five decades in the game entitle him to this great success.

The 2023 hotpot is Facile Vega touted as very good, and laid back. It's been mentioned in the same vein as Douvan. Home and hosed then? At the moment seasonal outing and race is a bit of an unknown too.

Facile Vega is making his hurdling debut at Gowran this saturday - the same debut race as Douvan!

That was Impressive very nimble over a hurdle Facile ahead of the rest at the minute

Facile Vega had a gallop and romped home with an easy win at Fairyhouse. He's 5/4 (best) with bookies; 3 hotpots on day one at Cheltenham ie Facile Vega, Jonbon and Constitution Hill. Will all obliged? The prices are stinky though.

i wouldn't disagree with you regarding constitution hill and jonbon . jonbon has shown a vigour for fences that will get him lengths and a un-worried attitude , that adds lbs to his physical efforts over hurdles , he's a natural . If you look at last years supreme we had a 22l length winner going off at 9-4 trained by nicky henderson . Your looking wrong at the supreme 123 , their wont be any value in the irish runners  . prolly the tolworth hurdle will reveal our chances , but , english hurdlers in general will be over-priced .

I agree Facile Vega is no value and one cannot back him on his own; Constitution Hill started 9/4jf because of Dysart Dynamo (jf/Mr Mullins' hotpot). The latter ran his customary race ie freely.

I think Facile Vega is a different kettle of fish, but no value though.

It wouldnt be the first time willie has turned up with a good un that didn't win the supreme....

Dysart last year was over cooked , getabird, melon, min, all came hyped up .....all lost

What about those that won vautour Douvan klassical dream champagne fever appreciate it,they can't all win Dysart wasn't a hotpot, getabird I wouldn't have thought was expected, melon came off the flat which doesn't have a great record in the race and min suffered an overreach against a good horse in altior

Tahmuras looks well above average but he needs another run before the Supreme. His jumping was mostly OK but he made a couple of mistakes late on and then he hung left from the last so not the finished article.

If the jockey is riding top class horses every day, when he gets excited about one I listen.
By:

When: 10 Jan 23 18:05
Good man keep on listening, even timeform rated the win as the lowest rated this century, and to my eye's I thought something similar as a couple didn't perform but it could improve, but with Nicholls it was probably trai Ed to the minute

I worry about his greenness from the turn in with 2 mistakes and then hanging badly but with more experience he will be at least 10 lbs better than that. The second and third were totally unexposed so until they run again, who can possibly judge them? They were from relatively unfashionable yards and had only won minor novice races but that happens all the time when horses move up in class.

What's the latest with American Mike? is he injured? is he gone? he's a forgotten horse now but I'd run him in this race, he didn't get home last time off a decent pace upped in trip.

If he's still in the game then 33's for this race represents a fair e/w shot imo

Impaire Et Passe ran well today. Could they switch Facile Vega
to the Ballymore to let Impaire Et Passe run in the Supreme maybe?

The owners also have Dark Raven who is unbeaten in 3.

If he books his ticket for the festival, I would imagine they would like to keep their horses apart.

I think its telling what Ruby said about FV. ''I thought Facile Vega was very good at Fairyhouse in a pretty bog-standard maiden hurdle. He couldn’t have been any more impressive than he was and we know how good he was in bumper races last season. David Porter rides him every morning at home and he’s very happy with him, he looks well.

He was workman-like more than spectacular at Leopardstown over Christmas but he got the job done when stepped up to Grade One company. He made a mistake or two, but I was glad to see him do that, he’ll learn from those errors and improve for that.

I don’t love to see Novices go to Cheltenham absolutely foot perfect because somewhere along the way they’re going to get it wrong. You’d like to see them make a mistake before they get there. Facile Vega made two at Christmas, he’ll have learned from that and improve from it. Knowing Willie Mullins, Facile Vega will improve.

He’d have had him ready enough to win his maiden hurdle, he’ll have improved for Christmas, he’ll have him better again by the Dublin Racing Festival with the aim of being better by Cheltenham in March. He’s doing everything Willie has asked him to do, but I don’t think he’s near turned a screw with him yet.''

Has Jet Powered lost a leg? His price resembles the attraction of a holiday in Ukraine at the moment. Or has bookie-friend Hendo intimated with his sponsor after his participation here? The horse was 7/1 here prior to Hendo's intelligent race-planning despite atrocious ground at Newbury the last time.
By:

When: 23 Jan 23 17:01
Impossible - thats some drift from 7/1 second fav to 180 after one run where it clearly didnt run its race. My guess is its not going to Chelt :) Dont need to be Mystic Meg to know that one. However this is a classic example of insider trading, from people not taking opinion but someone who knows for sure.
By:

When: 23 Jan 23 17:19
Only 14/1 (war) with 'billie'. How can a horse that was 2nd fav, then ran no race next time because of atrocious ground (according to trainer) can be 150 here?; the same race was won by Shishkin and Altior previously, I think.

I'd tend to agree. He ain't be showing up here (at the moment).

This is what it says about the race on Racing Post."  Raced freely, raced in second, shaken up before 2 out, ridden after 2 out, soon outpaced and no chance with winner, weakened run-in (trainer could offer no explanation for the poor form shown) (op 30/100)"

Still doesn't explain such a drift though  so not going to Cheltenham seems the logical answer

it would be monster value at 180 if it was a runner based on just one bad run - but as i said its obviously not running
