when Largy Debut went away from Kilcruit recently, the consensus seemed to be that Kilcruit ran below form. At the time I said "lets wait until they run again". In an interview shown today, Willie Mullins admitted that they had heard strong vibes about Largy Debut and as he said, the rest were 25 lengths behind that day so they might be the 2 best novices in Ireland. I have taken a small interest in Largy Debut for the Supreme as we see every year how the best GB runners are overrated. Jonbon looks very good but there are no reliable form lines. The novice hurdle at Leopardstown on Monday will tell us more.

I might be falling into the trap, but I was mighty impressed by Constitution Hill.

Nevertheless, Largy Debut looks too big at 14/1, and I can't understand why Kilcruit is 10s in places when he appeared to be well beaten fair and square. I'm sure Kilcruit needed the run, but it was only Largy's second run under rules and he will surely improve.

There was alot of chatter about Largy before he made his bumper debut for stuart in which he ran ok in 3rd. However he is not 10 lengths better Kilcruit. Kilcruit ran 10 days later than Largy for Tony in which lookin back now wasnt setting the world on fire until switching stables. Tony had tipped Kilcruit for his bumper debut the length of the land in every cheltenham preview night he done.

This is looking like a quality supreme for the ages.
Looking at the times and taking into account going changes in the same trials a year earlier,  I think we are in for a treat as these look much better than last year poor batch.

I can see Sir Gerhard going the Ballymore rout even though he's 3 times the price. From what i have seen of him he doesnt have that instant turn of pace. Kilcruit is a complete headscratcher atm but if he takes in a maiden or novice he could be sitting on a filthy handicap mark in which the Martin Pipe could spring to mind. Gallopin progressively improved last season taking in the martin pipe and now looks 1 of the best in willies and in the top 3 most valuable jump horses in training.

But the MP would be a fall back and an admission that the horse, who pre season was a top novice hope, had failed, as opposed to many MP winners that had specifically been plotted up for the race.

De Boinville has won 2 of the last 5 supremes, and was 3rd in another. He didn’t have a ride in one recently a year or two ago.

Townend riding at Cheltenham is a massive negative imo, especially on the old course.
Front runner on the old course is very dangerous though, but it’s half brother was 3rd in the Welsh National last month.

It always comes back to nationalities to you, have you thought of following a team sport like football  rugby etc where you can support your country which you're obviously very passionate about.

Yeah I’m well aware of what Townend has won at the festival, but imagine what a good judge could rack up on those Mullins horse.

As I said, I think it’s more an old course issue tbh.

Irishone- Yes I’d agree Hughes didn’t get much coverage, but I’d imagine that’s because he didn’t have many big Saturday winners and most wins were of lesser quality?
He also isn’t attached to one of the bigger ‘sexier’ yards the media like to go on about for easy generalisations.

What is your point though? Surely you’ve not saying it’s because his Irish?
As long as I’m backing the winner, I don’t care where the jockey and trainer are from.

Exactly Barnesy , its about the sport not your pocket.
The champion jockey in the UK never got a ride at Cheltenham
Do you realise how bad that looks ?
By:
ENGLANDBARNES1
When: 21 Jan 22 11:27
Yeah it does my head in as I’ve stated before with these trainers having cosy relationships with jockeys that were good five years ago and not sacking them.
Nicholls is one of the few that does, and look at the difference it made when STD went back to daddy!
If I was a top trainer, I’d do all I could to get Blackmore in as number one jockey.
She’s a brilliant judge of pace and has a great tactical mind, rather than following like a sheep as francombe mentioned recently.
Plus with the way the world is going, I’m sure she would attract more sponsors and owners to the yard so it’s win win.

But even then her tactical brain kicked in, realising they couldn’t give Frodon an easy lead, she was just on the wrong type of horse to do that.
She did something similar in the Arkle when captain Guinness took on Allmankind

Jonbon was 5 seconds slower than Tommy’s Oscar over c and d at Haydock today.
Jonbon was however carrying 7 lb more tbf.

First time Jonbon had to be asked for something today, he still looks green, his head carriage was awkward to the right for a lot of the straight but there won't be a better hurdler than him in the Supreme, he is mustard.
