when Largy Debut went away from Kilcruit recently, the consensus seemed to be that Kilcruit ran below form. At the time I said "lets wait until they run again". In an interview shown today, Willie Mullins admitted that they had heard strong vibes about Largy Debut and as he said, the rest were 25 lengths behind that day so they might be the 2 best novices in Ireland. I have taken a small interest in Largy Debut for the Supreme as we see every year how the best GB runners are overrated. Jonbon looks very good but there are no reliable form lines. The novice hurdle at Leopardstown on Monday will tell us more.

Can't see Sir Gerhard staying the Ballymore trip. I'd worry about Dysart Dynamo getting worked up in the Supreme preliminaries but again am not sure about the Ballymore. I'd think about Kilcruit for the Ballymore but that would not solve the SG/DD problem.

Interesting that Nicky Henderson on the Unibet preview said Jonbon and Constitution Hill would both go for the Supreme but then seemed to walk back slightly, presumably because JP will make the final decision.

I remember the capers before with appreciate it last year, champagne fever, vautour when the same thing occurre putting everyone away for the ballymore before declaring for supreme.

If the older members know the caper, then I’d say his boy will be on kilcruit townend on sir Gerard and the other Mullins on Dysart.

What I despise is the putting people away, when it’s clear none of them want 2m5f at this stage…Walsh one of the most filthiest in the game for putting people away like he is doing here. We will see I suppose but like you say penzance, he knows where they are running just likes to control people. Must be an ego thing

Early on wasn't there a rumour that Cheveley Park were much more interested in winning a Supreme than Bally?
Report Ramruma March 9, 2022 3:45 PM GMT
What has Ruby said that would constitute "putting people away"?
Report duffy March 9, 2022 4:10 PM GMT
Mullins does not feel obliged to consider the punter in any of his decisions, never has done and Walsh has stated long since, in as many words that he has little or no consideration to the average punter.

What would be a better example to hammer them with should it transpire rather than the Supreme would be if Galopin ended up in the RSA, because that's what Mullins intimated at after the DRF because he was concerned that the faster race might undo his jumping as he was sticky at a couple at Leopardstown. However, Walsh has been constant in pushing for the Turner's and apparently now Mullins is agreeing.
Report brandyontherocks March 9, 2022 4:44 PM GMT
Agree Duffy. Walsh has been banging the Turners drum since his debut. If he was to switch to the RSA it would be another one to add to their catalogue of shafting the punter.
Walsh has also been telling everyone who cares to listen that Sir Gerhard is all speed.

I take all their comments with a pinch of salt.

Geoff..... Best Supreme since Diana Ross

Report harry callaghan March 9, 2022 6:30 PM GMT
What has Ruby said that would constitute "putting people away"?

Walsh has been banging the drum that Mullins will definitely split the horses, when it is clear they are all supreme horses judging by the campaigns they have all had.

If he doesn’t split them, Walsh has clearly put everyone away by constantly saying they will be split

Ruby Walsh says…

“Dysart Dynamo and Sir Gerhard are the two that are deadly split, they are the ones to ride, and they will be split.

“I believe whichever one goes to the Ballymore [Novices Hurdle] will win it. But whichever one runs here [at Cheltenham] might win. They Ballymore is much weaker race.”

“I think this is a cracking race, as people have already said.”

“I think if Dysart Dynamo were to run here, this race is made for him.”
Report geoff m March 9, 2022 7:01 PM GMT
Agree Harry to do right by the horses they should run here S>G /Dysart /kilcruit  .Wonder if Mullins/Townend will put potential personal ambition/financial gain against whats doing right by the hosses.
Report harry callaghan March 9, 2022 7:14 PM GMT
Geoff I’m not being negative but this is the biggest jump meeting of the year and personally I hate the skullduggery. We should be talking of what a great race it is, instead we can’t put a book together with now 6 days left because Walsh, Mullins want to put people away.

I’ll be Frank, I think they are all going to run in the supreme. Just hate not being able to form a book while watching them rob the cash out of both markets on Walsh’s say so.

We will see, the rsa backers done their money, by the look of it already
Report geoff m March 9, 2022 7:50 PM GMT
Found it quite easy to make a book if your willing to trade/hedge it .As been fluctuating all over the place.

Taking a view where they run(and sticking with it) can turn out to be high risk.

Personally hope they all run likewise as ive laid(i.e worst results) S>G/Dysart/Kilcruit and Constitution for Ballymore.

Fair play Geoff…not done anything myself I got my ass bitten last year with appreciate it going for ballymore. Ferny hollow scuppered the bet I'm afraid. The problem for Mullins this year with splitting the horses, is he has legitimate dangers unlike last year, which makes his decision this time much tougher imo and he could end up with nothing if he spots the wrong horses.

Cheltenham is a spectacle, do you believe the control he now has over racing in Ireland and now Britain is for the good of the sport Irishone?
Report geoff m March 10, 2022 9:39 AM GMT
You can understand the difficulty in trying to appease owners /Jockey and his own ambitions.

Making a decision this far in advance can all change with the weather.

Making a clear definitive staement what goes where and then all change with the weather we would be accusing him of putting us punters away.

@ the heart of it they should do what they truly beleive is right for each horse. Which is not always the case.
Report geoff m March 10, 2022 9:46 AM GMT
The problem he has is his best 3 novices in one race.
He talks of Sir Gerard as tho he will be looking to keep him as a hurdler next year. Which would obviously be Champion Route.
And therefore would you want to put him over 2m5f this year.Altho he believes he would stay.

Dysart (would be amazed if he went Ballymore the way he tanked @ PUnchestown and hacked up)

Kilcruit again be amazed if he went Ballymore.

Albeit im sure all will be left in the Ballymore @ latest decs when it reopens later today
Just to add further confusion /speculation

If they where in different yards its a no brainer.

"Cheltenham is a spectacle"

Give us a break. Its only a spectacle because willie, gordon and henry turn up.

Its racist, overcrowded and well capable of killing good horses.

There is nothing spectacular about it. Punchestoen, dublin snd galway are far in sdvance in terms of quality..... The beer is overpriced , the food is crapp and you cant get about.

Its like your.cup final. Used to be a spectacle but now even the best clubs dont put their best teams out. Nichols avoids it, best jockey in UK doesnt want to ride there. Your epsom derby was touted as a spectacle now its a run of the mill saturday afternoon meeting.

You ask anyone who has been to cheltenham the last twenty years has it got better.....its pvercrowded now more than ever.

Recently they have had fights breaking out, fellahs pi55ing pver balconies, bands playing during racing and a tented dhopping centre open all day. Geysers stripping off in the guinness village. The number one reason the irish come is the prizemoney.Dont kid yerself about honour or tradition.

Like a lot of events with big crowds there is a sense of mob rule and anything goes. I get the members badge given to me some years and dont use it because the bars are.overcrowded and you cant get about comfortably. The boxes used to be ok but even they get mobbed now with people that are npt interested in the horses .

The course itself is unsafe. There are horse deaths there year after year. .....whats spectacular about that ?

I went to the Grand National one year and, glad to have experienced it once,  vowed never again.  Customer convenience and comfort is so far away from their raison d'etre you wonder how they all put up with it.
I have to say I stopped punting at Cheltenham years and years ago, particularly a/p. An absolute lottery.  I look now for good performances with a view to Aintree.  Got me Minnehoma one year - with the emphasis on one year!  Happy

In most years the Supreme winner has gone into the race with an official rating of 150+. This year only Dysart Dynamo is rated over 150.

A lot of the pretenders are being judged on visual rather substance.

Report gpz6316 December 12, 2022 10:31 PM GMT
i wouldn't disagree with you regarding constitution hill and jonbon . jonbon has shown a vigour for fences that will get him lengths and a un-worried attitude , that adds lbs to his physical efforts over hurdles , he's a natural . If you look at last years supreme we had a 22l length winner going off at 9-4 trained by nicky henderson . Your looking wrong at the supreme 123 , their wont be any value in the irish runners  . prolly the tolworth hurdle will reveal our chances , but , english hurdlers in general will be over-priced .
Report impossible123 December 17, 2022 6:32 PM GMT
I agree Facile Vega is no value and one cannot back him on his own; Constitution Hill started 9/4jf because of Dysart Dynamo (jf/Mr Mullins' hotpot). The latter ran his customary race ie freely.

I think its telling what Ruby said about FV. ''I thought Facile Vega was very good at Fairyhouse in a pretty bog-standard maiden hurdle. He couldn’t have been any more impressive than he was and we know how good he was in bumper races last season. David Porter rides him every morning at home and he’s very happy with him, he looks well.

He was workman-like more than spectacular at Leopardstown over Christmas but he got the job done when stepped up to Grade One company. He made a mistake or two, but I was glad to see him do that, he’ll learn from those errors and improve for that.

I don’t love to see Novices go to Cheltenham absolutely foot perfect because somewhere along the way they’re going to get it wrong. You’d like to see them make a mistake before they get there. Facile Vega made two at Christmas, he’ll have learned from that and improve from it. Knowing Willie Mullins, Facile Vega will improve.

He’d have had him ready enough to win his maiden hurdle, he’ll have improved for Christmas, he’ll have him better again by the Dublin Racing Festival with the aim of being better by Cheltenham in March. He’s doing everything Willie has asked him to do, but I don’t think he’s near turned a screw with him yet.''
