DDS deserves his place in the Queen Mother Chase - he's done everything asked of him. Altior could or could not turn up. Even if he did Altior would still need to be as good as last season to be certain of victory, but on evidence shown so far and end of last season I'd not be sure.
But, taking 9/4 for DDS is valueless irrespective of the presence of Altior; the Irish contingent could be problemo on the day for both, I feel. |
By:
If Altior turned up and ran to the exact same level as last year on balance I would not expect him to win, I think he needs to be better than last year, the decline when it comes tends to be a steep one and regardless of how good or bad this year appears I fear he's short of the necessary.

question. Putting Altior aside for a second who is the second best 2 mile chaser in britain
By:
^^
Defi Du Seuil with/without Altior as things stand in Britain. |
By:
any substance to my theory that uds would be better over further i.e 2.4 miles plus ?
By:
stayed on after being passed and at his age the speed not there, but further prob better for him .
By:
He's been further won a Ryanair, although in the meantime he did mop up a fair few Grade 1's at 2m.
I think this is his last season,so may as well go for a nice finale at either Chelt or the race he won last year beating Douvan. In answer to who would be the 2nd best after Altior.........god knows!!! |
By:
Impossible how the hell is your answer putting altior to one side. Anyway forget it I’ve lost the will to live
By:
Thanks Budd .... exactly. This is why 2 and half milers are running in all the 2 mile races over here. Who is the best 2 miler DDS has beaten. He is 2-1 fav someone tell me this is complete madness as I am about to check myself in somewhere
By:
Sorry, the question was in Britain, so obvious answer to me is DDS.
Although not much really to go on. |
By:
Sorry I should have said in Britain not over here. No offence meant.
By:
No putting altior aside DDS is the best not the second best right. Your first answer ... god knows ... that’s the correct answer I think
By:
Yep,has not beaten another one over here that one could call a real good 2 miler.
Does seem to make a mockery of the price,if UDS ain't the same horse. |
By:
As it's I'd back DDS against Altior with DDS or one from the Irish contingent eg CPS his conqueror at Punchestown (fair and square), I believe. I do not believe DDS has improved (markedly) despite beating UDS comprehensively at Ascot over the weekend.
By:
So we don't know the best of the Brits, we don't know the best of the Irish and we don't know if the Brits or Irish are best.
IMO any horse less than 8/1 cannot be backed right now. Not value. |
By:
Well trainer still saying Ryanair the most likely destination for APT and he is saying it in a very different way to honeysuckle for mares where he concedes the plans could easily change if she wins the Irish ch. in other words I get the impression he is favouring Ryanair irrespective of win lose or draw next month. Time will tell.
By:
The answer to your question is simple ....
Best 2 mile Chaser in England is DDS. Best 2 mile Chaser in Ireland is CPS. If the race was tomorrow and you had to pick one horse to win £1million whatever it’s price. Altior, DDS, CPS and APT and CE. There is only one you can pick. |
By:
Hats off Hibore, you are certainly cleverer than me
By:
I would go for Altior cos I know what he CAN do,the others I have no idea.
By:
Budd your missing my point. At their best Altior probably has 7 - 10lbs in hand..I’m not asking who WAS the best horse. He’s missed his last two engagements for whatever reason and looked to have a very very hard race at Ascot.
If Altior had beaten UDS like that on Saturday he’d be 4/6 for the Champion. DDS now 9/4 isn’t that surprising and probably about right. |
By:
shameless pocket talking here but this race would be on my mind if i had anything to do with a plus tard, the weekends results only reinforce that not a lot between him and chacon su pour granted csp may have needed the run but both improvers and a plus tard already proven at the festival . wont happen by the betting on here but he would have every chance here imo.
By:
A plus tard has confirmed Ryanair target
By:
Altior will run in the Game Spirit on Saturday
![]() |
By:
I believe it when he shows up. Just too many false dawns.
By:
Not really sure what it will show if he beats Kalashnikov or Bun Doran anyway. At least we know he's alive.
Champion Chase could be race of the meeting if he's there. |
By:
Altior will run and hopefully will win well. Reading some of the posts on here anyone could be forgiven for thinking that Altior is some sort of dog. Its all about opinions of course but I'm more than happy with my ante post price for the Champion Chase. If he were to perform well then even at the age of 10 both DDS and CPS will struggle to match him up the hill, CPS could still be improving of course but needs to, imo.
By:
APT has already proved he loves the new course and gets the Ryanair trip.
It only got so close at Christmas because Chacun needed the run and was bogged down on the slower ground by the rail, while APT was on a quicker strip of ground towards the middle of the track. |
By:
Until recently I was a fan of Mr Henderson regards soundbites and running plans of his charges. He was waxing lyrical about Santini and Fusil Raffles (but Epatante heavily backed instead and won) before their race, and Altior - he was spot on about Santini, but way off the mark with Fusil Raffles and Altior.
Now, Hendo is displaying the same enthusiasm and confidence about Altior in his work and running this saturday; 7/2 for this race at present. Altior has had several engagements cancelled at the last minute, one "encouraged" by The BHA; folly or value? |
By:
Its looking to me that come Saturday evening this week,we will have either Altior or DDS in the CC,but not both.
Hope I am wrong,as I want to see as many interesting and good horses in the CC as possible. Main think for me is Altior turning up in good form, but I would like DDS turning up as well. |
By:
budd, you think that if Altior is impressive it would sway the DDS camp to go up in trip?
By:
Their seems to be talk along those lines Duffy.
By:
The Ryanair would look to be shaping up to be red hot if all these pieces fall that way as I think it looks likely that APT will end up in that race too.
By:
On that very logic Budd I did a double yesterday with PP DDS Ryanair FD Marsh both 10s don’t know if still the same.
By:
DDS will run in the Champion Chase 100%.
Not sure what Altior beating Kalashnikov would prove to make DDS change targets ? |
By:
Agree,been solely campaigned at 2m
this season, why suddenly step up in trip? |
By:
You’re probably right Hibore but I’m ok with that as I am using money I put aside after DDS won the race that wasn’t the Arkle last year.
By:
Still both 10 Miltons, not a bad bet at all if things pan out that way.
Cheers. Hibore Hobbs is reported as saying its a possibility apparently,so on that basis it aint 100%. If Altior is impressive I can see why, its certainly possible they may think they cannot beat Altior or indeed CPS for that matter. Defi ran last year in the JLT instead of the Arkle, so its not as if hes clearly better at 2m,in fact theres form to suggest he may have more chance of success in the Ryanair. All in all I would say its nearer 50/50. |
By:
Imo the decision will not be based on what races he has run in this year it will be based on which race they believe they feel they have the best chance of winning . If they feel they have a good chance of beating Altior and CPS they will run in the CC. If they don’t they will run in the Ryanair and it won’t matter one bit what the rest of us think.
I am sure they would be supremely confident of him getting the Ryanair trip and they will likely think that the 2mile races will have sharpened his jumping up for longer trips down the road and will have been very happy to take the prize money thank you very much for beating the other 2 and half milers this season. So all in all they already have a number of positives from the campaign whichever way they go. I don’t think they have given up on the possibility either of him being a king George/GC horse next season and may also see the Ryanair as a stepping stone. Do I think it is more likely he will run in the CC yes I do, but I don’t think it’s the formality that people think it is particularly if the ground was G-S. |

Ok didn’t see you post Budd...... what he said

layed both Chacun Pour Soi & Altior for this,
