Risky betting now as the forecast is all over the place really.

Sit tight and wait until monday pm / tuesday am. See what the stick reading is then bet accordingly.

As it stands i see no reason in looking for good ground spring horses but as always that can change here at this venue at this time of year.

If the anticipated and forecast does arrive at the weekend then it will be nigh on impossible to see anything other than a reading of around 5.5 to staertg the meeting on.

What he actually calls it is another matter.

Wait and see, have we all forgotten how the course drains so well since the new drainage a few years ago? A passing shower today, a shower tomorrow, a couple of afternoon showers on Friday, its hardly a monsoon. Just 2mm rain forecast now for both Sunday and Monday and 6mm of rain and thunder early hours of Tuesday morning. Maybe its Claisse watering on Monday we need to worry about!!

The 7 day weather forecast summary for Cheltenham Racecourse:

For Cheltenham Racecourse in the coming week the average daytime maximum temperature will be around 11°C, with a high for the week of 13°C expected on the afternoon of Saturday 10th. The mean minimum temperature will be 2°C, dipping to its lowest on the morning of Friday 9th at -1°C. Expect the week ahead to have some days seeing a little precipitation and some days with rain. The current forecast indicates Friday 9th will have the most precipitation with an accumulation of around 16.0mm. On the whole winds are likely to be moderate.

a legacy of (over)watering throughout 2017

all through the spring (festival, 2 day april meeting & hunter chase card)
and on the lead up to the october meeting

There was mass hysteria about the bleedin' water table last year. Please not again  Cry
By:

water table is not determined by rainfall over the last few days or weeks
its a product of several months rainfall totals & the watering regime

3 months prior to Annies track record up to wednesday before meet approx 14 inches of rain
3 months prior to next weeks festival including today             approx 6 inches of rain
wheres your evidence to say the water table is higher now than then   ? your talking  approx 100 mm less rainfall
water table gagging for a drink imo.
if rain doesnt materialise as expected he will be watering on SundayLaughLaugh

I have screenshot the going map the last 2 days on my phone, now they have not had rain in 2 days, last night it had green (good to soft) coming down the hill (I think) on the old course and in other places on the cross country course. Today after no rain these parts of the racetrack are now soft?? How does that happen Confused

wonder if you think claisses watering 6 months ago will have a bearing on tuesdays going yer need to give yer head a wobble.
the critical days will be sun/mon tues which for obvious reasons will have the greatest bearing

think about how much watering took place last year (4 successive meterological seasons drier than avg)

Very much concur wondersobright.

The drainage is so efficient that Claisse has had to put a lot of water on the track in the summer & autumn in order to be able to race on "safe jumping ground" at the October meeting. The effect of all that watering is that when it rains, very little rain is required to turn the ground into a quagmire.

Shaman Claisse is like the wind. Moving in all directions and impossible to grasp.

From the RP (after the November meeting):

Clerk of the course Simon Claisse on Sunday hit back at criticism of the ground at Cheltenham levelled by leading jockey Brian Hughes during ITV Racing's coverage, stating the rider should "substantiate his claims before being publicly critical".
On his return to the weighing room after partnering Cloudy Dream to finish second in the Shloer Chase, Hughes said: "The track should be ashamed of themselves, watering so much. That's horrendous ground."
Responding, Claisse said the course had not been watered since the Showcase meeting three weeks earlier.
"We watered before the October meeting so it was not good to firm, for very obvious welfare issues," he said. "On the Friday it was good and the clock backed that up. Once opened up it rode slightly easier the next day. We've not touched it since.
"We had 12mm of rain yesterday on good to soft ground that's turned it soft and heavy."
The ground was undoubtedly testing after Saturday's downpour – jockey Stan Sheppard described it as "like galloping through PVA glue" – while champion rider Richard Johnson added: "The weather we had yesterday was horrendous and it's got very soft. Unfortunately it's got very tacky today.
"It would be lovely to have fresh ground each day but I don't know the layout well enough to know if they can do that. It's always nice to have the freshest ground for graded races, so hopefully they can keep looking at it and improving. But it's not easy after the weather we had."
