Why they not use a device similar to a stinger used to stop run-away vehicles with a meter at the end of each spike? If so, a set of reading can be obtained for the entire width of the course compare to someone's walking stick.

Just a tad - it seems anyone with a clue who gets a price are now automatically an arber in his eyes, (even though an arb is a back and lay at the same time, which is impossible when you are taking a lower price than the exchange is offering).....Other than that though..

Now that we are into the realms of relatively accurate future weather forecasting, the one thing that we can guarantee is that the ground will be slow come Tuesday. Just a matter of how slow!

The forecast has changed dramatically in the last few mintues with yr.no, it could change again of course. But as of the minute the rain is literally not going to stop between now and tuesday. Not huge amounts but there will be no time for drying.
Therefore there is a strong chance Samcro is rerouted. From a betting point 7/1 with paddy for heavy ground seems fair. If it is heavy the 14/1 about Un de Sceaux with 365 nrnb in the C.C. seems a worthy consideration, it would be his ideal conditions imo. They could also split the Ricci horses if both are well. If they want to avoid Samcro with Getabird, 5/1 in the ballymore nrnb could also be a bet. I'm just thinking out loud , dont shoot me! |

Connections of Getabird are not going to know what race Samcro to will run in when they must declare for the Supreme on Sunday. They also cannot remain in the Ballymore and declare for the Supreme so regardless of where Samcro runs I can only see Getabird going Supreme. I can see no extremes in the forecast, it will not be heavy by the off on Tuesday. A huge amount of pocket talking push on these forums hence why most original posters steer well clear.

Sir Ranulph who famously cut off his own frost bitten fingers to save a £6000 surgery bill after his wife accused him of being irritable, has had to saw off two fingers from his other hand to numb the pain after mistakenly stumbling upon this thread thinking it referred to the Kilimanjaro Festival of climbing.
He thought he could weather the storm but by page 6 it surpassed a frontal assault on Everest in a snowstorm. I would like to pass on regards from the forum and in honour of his quests the V for victory sign he can no longer do himself. |

That weather station on Cleeve Hill has had 3mm of rain and it seems to have stopped for now. But it looks like two heavy showers will pass over in the next few hours.

There are unconfirmed reports that weatherman John Kettley has been taken prisoner by a group of gamblers from a well-known betting forum in an attempt to obfuscate the tumultuous weather patterns at Cheltenham over the next few days to gain an edge on positions. We will keep you posted on this unsavoury development.

Jeremy Kyle has been called in to mediate the hostage situation. Studio insiders witnessed geoff m throwing chairs at other forumites who assisted with Mr Kettley’s escape by swan diving into a crowd of burly security guards. Good/soft returned to favourite which is still subject to substantial ramping. Lucy Verasamy was unavailable for comment.

first part of the equation sorted - now just waiting for the o'learys to make the correct call...
there are now 11 nights (including tonight) before racing and the impact of Storm Emma on Gloucester seems to be as bad as 'beast from east' was up here in central scotland - the bbc forecast does show temperatures above freezing from monday onwards but by then how much snow will there be and what will be the impact of the melt? and forecast also shows rain on 7 of 8 days leading up to the Tuesday, so in summary we won't need Mr Claisse to ensure good to soft this time round, nature seems on track for soft and possibly even soft/heavy - well thats my prediction anyways and accordingly just had my first bet in 4 days!! |

Don't worry the usual suspects will be on saying the course drains really well and the forecast might be wrong.
Sportsbook still offering 4/6 soft and 7/1 heavy and laying proper money. For the umpteenth time - don't look a gift horse in the mouth. You can all thank me later.  |

Cheltenham: going eased to soft, heavy in places on Saturday morning Cheltenham: going eased to soft, heavy in places on Saturday morning 1 of 1 By Jack Haynes 7:56AM, MAR 10 2018 Clerk of the course Simon Claisse expects the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival will begin on soft ground or possibly worse following 14mm of rain at the track overnight. The going on Saturday morning was eased to soft, heavy in places (from good to soft, soft in places) following the significant rainfall. Showers are forecast at the track until Monday and Claisse does not foresee conditions drying out considerably for the opening day. Claisse said: "We've had a little more rain than we expected with 14mm falling at the track and it's a showery outlook from now through to Monday. "I don't envisage the ground drying out considerably in time for Tuesday – we may shed the heavy in places depending on how much we get through the forecast showers, but I wouldn't see it reversing to good to soft." |

Breaking news, Angela Rippon has just been hired by a group of gamblers to perform a reverse rain dance at Prestbury Park today.
This is also being sponsored by ‘Willie Wontie’ Mullins in the hope Samcro does not make the switch from the Ballymore Hurdle to the Supreme Hurdle. Gordon Elliott playing Willie Wontie at his own game has not gone down well at Closutton Towers. Not since the days of Eric and Ern and their Jean Kelly inspired rain dance has there been such anticipation at septogenarian Rippon revealing her legs. Forumites who dont get out too often are getting very excited, one saying i hope she will ‘bring me sunshine’. |

Aye as i said the other day big chance this festival starts on heavy and it could be run on a bog. This brilliant drying course for 2 dry days barely dried at all and actually somehow according to the going map got worse in certain parts of the course. It doesn't even seem to be taking that much rain to chance the going (3mm earlier in the week changed the going)so it seems like there is loads of moisture in the ground.
I've accepted we're starting on either soft or heavy, the market on here has kind of accepted we are likely to start on soft but keeps Good to Soft as a short enough price but that's mainly down to the man who gives the going description. |

well fook me 14mm and we've gone from g/s to a mixture of soft and heavy (more heavy on the new course) QED the market still seems in some sort of denial  there is zero chance of g/s and not much chance of heavy imo this is a soft ground festival |

Last night's rainfall has sealed the deal. Irrespective of the volume of rain that now falls, he official going on Tuesday at the start of racing will be "Soft". It may well change to "heavy" after the first race - Claisse's normal fallback - but he won't call it that for the start of racing.
Not sure many jumps fans wanted to see a soft ground Festival but good to see that a few forumites have had a good start to the Festival even before the first race is run by taking advantage of the uncertainty created wittingly or unwittingly by Shaman Claisse. |

Willie Wontie has this morning made a press release saying ‘After the rain we have decided Getabird is going for the Arkle now with Footpad switched to the Stayers Hurdle. This is our current thinking. We will be giving another update on this in half an hour’.
