I live in norht Northamptonshire - so on west-north-west trajectory from Cheltenahm  - so we should basically get the same weather as Cheltenham only a couple of hours later.
Just been for my morning dog walk and I haven;t seen the fields as flooded or the streams and farmers drainage ditches so full for a good couple of years.
If the racecouse were here it would be heavy, waterlogged in places.

I'm hoping it dries enough to be called soft as I win well over 4 figures, whereas heavy is just a £275 profit - though might hedge that a bit more. I've already reached the limits on the 7/1 at Betfair and PP.

If it's anything else I'm broke.

Eric - Faugheen would surely want it really soft - his best performance in the Irish Champion hurdle was on very soft ground and he has won on heavy.

Clerk of the course Simon Claisse expects the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival will begin on soft ground or possibly worse following 14mm of rain at the track overnight.

The going on Saturday morning was eased to soft, heavy in places (from good to soft, soft in places) following the significant rainfall.
Showers are forecast at the track until Monday, with up to 6mm of rain predicted to fall, and Claisse does not foresee conditions drying out considerably for the opening day.

Claisse said on Saturday morning: "We've had a little more rain than we expected with 14mm falling at the track overnight and it's a showery outlook from now through to Monday.

"I don't envisage the ground drying out considerably in time for Tuesday – we may shed the heavy in places depending on how much we get through the forecast showers, but I wouldn't see it reversing to good to soft."

unclepuncle - looks like your winnings are safe. Claisse would rather choke on his morning kedgeree than call it Heavy (and a little piece of me imagines him scouring every square inch of Cheltenham turf in order to find the one area that would give him the excuse to call it Good To Soft).

It's been a wet winter and when the water table is high it doesn't take a lot of rain to turn the going soft or heavy. Well done those that took a punt on the weather forecasts of a fortnight or so ago being reasonably accurate.  Let's hope you also had the foresight to put plenty of soft ground horses in your antepost accas!

Its quite amazing that im still hearing people saying its going to be good to soft - they still believe it will be good ground even when claisse and the forecast said it wouldn't be.

Its totally bizzare that they just cannot accept it, there are a few worried out there now i bet.

Plus there is more rain coming on Monday/Tuesday

Rozelkid - I don't think anybody here still thinks there's any chance it'll be Good to Soft.

i think hes already virtually stated he going to call it soft . The only way that can change is no rain whatsoever from now on or an absolute deluge for him to change that stance .As Soft /Heavy to    Soft /Good to soft allows for some rain / drying either way

The reason its still 1/2 soft is there are folks with higher prices looking to trade out.

even with no rain at all (contrary to the f/c) the best I can envisage is soft, g/s places
6mm in showers over 3 days with mild temperatures shouldn't turn it heavy unless the course is hit with a particularly heavy shower that produces more rain than f/c

Plenty of snow and rain forecast later this week and into the following week so I’m expecting proper soft going.

Ladcrooks have odds on the going and are offering 9/2 on soft.
Tried to have £200 on but max stake allowed (for me anyway) was a fiver.

if the weather forecast is right on the racingpost blog it might be heavy,he is talking 20mm before the meeting starts and 15mm wednesday night,lets hope it misses

But even if it is heavy he will not call it.
