I'm still hoping for a good things from Fountains Windfall. If his jumping holds up I think he has a serious chance. When he fell in the Feltham he was going better than anything on likely unsuitable ground. Although clearly there was a little way to go at that point.
Entered in the Scilly Isles on Saturday, which is not really a RSA trial, but they may just not fancy slogging him over 3 miles again before the RSA. Honeyball was talking about the Reynoldstown for him and I wouldn't mind that, it's been a fair Fes trial in recent years. |

By:
Yeh,looks a threat Sakhee, if his jumping goes well.
Was at Kempton the other day, impressive he was. |
By:
tbf this is a seiously haerd race to call
By:
Bud - Pleased to see FW pulled out of the Scilly Isles. Dare say the Reynoldstown is the plan if the ground comes up good to soft.
Dragon - Could be a turn up this year, no standout horse in the UK or Ireland. |
By:
agreed DBS not one to get too involved in until the day i reckon , i love this race but this year is just a total puzzle
Nick watts has put up Black Cortonnas his ante post selection in this which is available at 16/1 and its a horse i do like. His case is that its a grade 1 winner who is unbeaten in two runs over fences at cheltenham and has a bettrer or an equal offical rating than any of the last 9 out of 10 winners.he makes a compelling case to be fair if your read the article ,sound jumper who stays well acts on any ground and will go to the festival fresh with his last run on Boxing day. At 16 i might just shove 20 ew on it !!!! |

Agree that BC has improved all year and wouldn't put anyone off backing.
That's a reason why I played on Fountains Windfall at 33 for this. I backed in the Feltham and he had BC scrubbing in behind along with the rest. He looked like the winner at the point he fell. So I reasoned, on that basis, that if he hadn't fallen then he would've won. In which case he is 5 or 6 for the RSA. I try to not go with the stats too much, but the RSA trends do tend to be quite strong and the Feltham winner never wins the RSA. Something to be wary of. |

Red River is an early fancy for the RSA 2019

What do we make of Mullins runs today.. invatation only & Am Boum still unsure as 2 were they'll go
By:
quite a few irish trainers will be changing plans after this festival , well worth watching the markets
By:
Agreed Irish. Play NRNB on those.
Although, as someone who backed Invitation today, so was watching him, he didn't strike me as a horse that is crying out for 3m. Although is a ptp winner. Am Boum was staying on so wouldn't surprise me if he was stepped up in trip. He has an entry for the four miler as well. |
By:
Boum was staying on but didn't increase his lead on invatation,it was a funny old race Monalee seemed to be the only one who streched on. A few will be better for the ground as it was genuine soft.
By:
Two very good 3m novices head the market here - Presenting Percy and Monalee. I think they will drive a few to the JLT (Invitation Only) and 4 miler. Both look exceptional prospects.
By:
May well take a chance on Elegant Escape if he turns up here at a decent price. Having said that Monalee does look very strong.
By:
only thing with elegant escape is he seemed outpaced LTO so may be better in the 4miler for which he's also entered (and is a general 12/1 whereas he's 16/1 for the RSA)
By:
will surely run in the 4 miler and have a massive chance
By:
agree to be honest, think that'll be my play in the race and will leave the RSA alone!
By:
Only a small interest in Yanworth (a tentative selection) if he does not go for the Stayers (big bet nrnb). This has not been a lucky race for me.
By:
they finished in a bit of a heap on Sunday so maybe the form of Monalee is misleading? what I would say is he travelled the best turning for home and looked like winning easily
By:
Monalee & invatation only were travelling equally as good. I'd love to see Monalee go JLT I just think the RSA he could travel really well then falter up the hill due to his keenness
By:
No given up on Snow Falcon for this.
Jumped well again last week, but thought he may have been better off held up more. Maybe a tad outpaced in the end, and hoping 3m with being off the pace will see him produce his best. |
By:
It was more testing ground in Ireland than is likely in the RSA so I would be happy to see Monalee take part as they will go much quicker and he may not be so keen. He impressed me by pulling away again close home.
By:
To me Monalee and Presenting Percy look out on their own as 3m novices and I have read a lot about the possibility of Monalee going JLT rather than RSA. Wondering if this is because Davy Russell who has ridden both has chosen to ride PP at Cheltenham and has told the Monalee owners to avoid PP. Crazy thinking ?

By:
Resner take your point that he kept finding and come the RSA that may well be I just have the AB in my head that he was a sitting duck
By:
Personally I'd love to see Monalee over the JLT and lead from start to finish
By:
Noel Fehily seemed in no doubt after the race that it was RSA but will he be available to ride?
By:
he will, that's the reason they got him to ride in the Flogas they said
By:
Personally I think Noel was on it to keep options open for JLT & RSA. When the owner was asked the question about Davy he never said he wasn't riding
By:
Re Monalee in the Albert Bartlett, I seem to recall him being fairly free and he didn’t really tire up the hill was just beaten by a better horse on the day. I don’t actually mind your theory of running it in the JLT you could well be correct in how it would pan out but don’t think he runs there. I also think Noel rose the other day as they intend running in RSA and Davy Russell will be on Percy

Fountains Windfall dead - RIP.

Really, how did that happen. What a terrible shame.

By:
having a canter and school over a few poles and obstacles

By:
Gutted, had 33/1 and I really fancied him for this.

Mias Storm for me, however Alan King and her owners should be counting their lucky stars that they still have a racehorse. Just watched the Kauto Star Novices chase again......6 of the 7 jockeys chose to give their mounts a good sight of the first as they thundered towards it, but not Hutchinson. At the 3rd, she is asked to do almost the impossible, on soft ground and her 3rd chase, she is asked to take off (almost from outside the wings), at the same time as Ballyoptic who is 1 1/2 to two lengths in front of her....freeze the frame and you'll see. She does as the jockey asks and gives it a go but lands on the fence. Despite this she still has the guts and ability to get back into the race, makes a mistake at the 6th last, ((asked up, says no thanks(not after what just happened) and puts in an extra stride)), then falls at the 5th last. I have no doubt she would have been in the shake up if her ride had been different/better, despite the ground.
With luck on her side at Cheltenham, meeting the fences on a good stride(a must), and her 7lb mares allowance, she must go close, in spite of her proposed pilot! |

black corton wins again happy with 16 s
By:
PP lost nothing in defeat just then also.
By:
Agree Duffy very happy with that from PP, this is starting look like a pretty good race. Personally think it’s between PP and Monalee. Black Corton done nothing wrong, but don’t think the stats are good for Feltham or Reynoldstown winners.
