Its easy enough saying he is beating trees but it hard not to get away from the fact he has a serious engine and them trees are wee and truly slaughtered! Be very surprised if this horse Doesnt go very close in which ever race he turns up for
By:
No, I'm not sl@gging the horse per se, I'm simply pointing out (as it's been pointed on this thread that there is a possibility that he could go off short) that he is starting to fit the profile of the the irish, usual mullins horse that has a string of wins over the winter and rocks up a shortie and promptly gets beat when facing a whole different level of opposition and ground for the first time...the judgement call on these types is to oppose....that's not me saying it, it's what we've all learned from seeing it over and over again with horses that I'd guess went to the festival with even better form than this one will have.....whatever happens, his price will be due mainly on visual impression rather than quality of form....which wouldn't make a short price particularly attractive.

I want to see what he has off the bridle and to that extent I agree with Duffy (and I've gone balls-deep on him for the Neptune only). Horses don't win at Cheltenham hard held and I would want to see a horse (pre-Cheltenham) win in a scrap and know he's capable of battling, rather than just hacking round to a series of '1's' prior to the big day
By:
briar hill is the battler !
By:
You can't say that one is a battler and the other is not because nothing has got Faugheen off the bridle yet - he could have a heart like Bobs Worth for all we know.
I'd like to see him have a proper race but it is possible to win his Neptune fairly well held - Simonsig did it. Not saying he's the next Simonsig or anything but it can be done |

fair enough, just going on what ive seen !
By:
a out and out stayer for me is Briar Hill
By:
i agree but just over the last week or so,mullins been adding the word 'speed' when talking about him, just wonder whether that will be his excuse after saying he will be a staying hurdler, after all he put the bumper to bed in 5 strides !
By:
yep showed enough speed in the bumper, bit more to this horse than just staying ability.
Still think the supreme is a possibility, although not the most likely after trainers latest comments. |
By:
I think Duffy if you check you may find that those horses which you say "are beating trees" back in Ireland have won 8 of the last 13 runnings of the Supreme and 5 of the last 11 runnings of the Neptune. And WM has won 4 of them during that period as against PFN with 2 and NJH with 1.

Faugheen pretty weak on here tonight?
By:
Correction imo having dropped from 12 to 9.4 after Briar Hill's run on Sunday. Faugheen still has to a) win his trial (in higher class?), b) be nominated for the Neptune (looks the logical choice but when did that come into it?
) and c) turn up fit and ready on the day. So plenty of water to pass under the Mullins bridge in the next 9 weeks, quite enjoying the roller coaster ride and the debates though . |

duffy / roger :-
are you questioning what Faugheen finds off the bridle? ![]() |

By:
Arkle/rhinestone
I'm talking about faugheen, I'm not generally questioning what he finds off the bridal, and as I've said I'm not sl@gging him per se, I'm picking up on what WC posted earlier with the list of shorties that all came over for the most part and got beat. Arkle, I pointed out that I'm talking about the relevant short price faugheen could end up if the factors that WC points out come to pass, which could very well happen...all the examples you've cited don't include real shorties...and without going into each and every one of them I'd expect most of them to have had a better line of form than that of faugheen anyhow, certainly at the moment. There is, as WC has put a list of horses that faugheen could fall into line with regards to the target being announced and the subsequent over plunge occuring over and above what his price says he should be, and at the moment faugheens form suggests he shouldn't in anyway end up a festival shortie. To date, faugheen has beaten trees. |

Josses Hill's owner will be disappointed if this is true duffy! |
By:
Well I suppose the term beating trees is a derogatory term of course(we all use it)we don't really mean a horse is useless .... we're talking in the context of the quality of race in which we're using it, and we're using it in the context of discussing a potential for winning at the festival and he was beaten in a flat race anyhow.
My whole point though is his form in relation to the price e could go off if these circumstances that WC happen...I'm not critising him..if he goes off an 8/1 shot, then the level of form can be offset against his potential blah blah, and he's more backable....but if he goes off a real shortie then he should have already proper decent grade 1 form on a couple of occasions beating his direct peers in the process for the price to be justified. |

There's no way Faugheen should be shorter than The Tullow Tank in the Neptune betting for starters. I've got him at 10-1 so we can get that out the way for starters but backed him in expectation he does something of note before Cheltenham cos what he has shown so far simply ain't that special. And if he was trained by say D Bridgwater 90% on here would have it down as nothing special.
By:
I also wonder how much people on here have on Faugheen....surely if yer on every other day discussing the beast youve got at least 150/200 on him? How much has everyone got on this thing?
By:
Bally the point is he is not trained by D Brigdwater. There are thousands of trainers some better and many worse than DB but 98% of them will never win a grade 1 novice hurdle at the festival.
By:
9/10 had won over 2.4m or further - would be a concern if The Tullow Tank runs in Deloitte next.
Granted he looks good, but no one has actually seen his stamina tested yet over further than 2m. He looks like he could improve for the trip but you just don't know |
By:
That's true yep but double figure odds are just too big at present for me. He would have to prove stamina but looks as if he would improve for it.

you don't wanna know Ballydoyle ![]() |

Just watched TTT's races from his bumper onwards - he is really impressive. Actually think his first run this year was the best due to the way he got trapped, had to take a pull and come wide, and still win.
I know he stayed on in very soft ground last time, but he doesn't lack speed at all and it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up in the supreme - can see him storming up the hill. Don't know if the extra 4f will suit TBF. Definitely like him more than apache stronghold |

By:
Alleged you have the correct race he only has to win now.
By:
Well if you win I also win but I'd be surprised if he ran in Neptune as why run over 2n 6f 3m etc if he's a Neptune horse and stablemate running at around the Neptune trip?step forward the cheeky AB bet

He has way more speed then Briar Hill and any other Mullins novice.

it cant jump for a start lol !

It jumps better the quicker it goes. Best round of jumping so far was the 2.2m race. Did clout the third last but in the main it was a good round of jumping

deloitte will tell us all a lot more regarding faugheen
By:
if he loses some of us will have done their dough, if he wins on the snaff again some of us are going to look rather shrewd, its betting and why I love Cheltenham antepost

The shorter the trip the more impressive Faugheen will be.

By:
on good ground at cheltenham...ha ur having a tin bath, its going for the ab lol !

Faugheen doesnt jump that well when going slow. He's got plenty of stamina and speed so Neptune is clearly the race for him. A race Mullins loves to target his best at. I'm very confident he'll run there and not remotely worried barring an injury to Briar Hill that he'll run anywhere else.
I do understand lots of people have vested interests - myself included - based on what race they've backed him for. So it's not going to be a thread full of unbiased opinions. For what its worth I've topped up again for the Neptune today, taking advantage of the indecision people have over his target giving the best odds available here on betfair. |
