well wish you well with this one cv...
very inexperienced horse for me and little experience against very little opposition...but like you say you have a 33-1 poke on him so no harm there... just a tough race this for such an inexperienced horse...if i'd of backed him i'd want another race but sounds like he goes straight into the lions den... very tough and he will be some horse to win |
By:
Yes he is inexperienced and it was a punt on his reputation and wide margin bumper/p2p wins. He won easily by 18l today so he's a useful sort. Staying pedegree on both sire and dam side so it's the right race for him.
Ballycasey was fav for last years Albert Bartlett on the back of just 2 runs before he missed the race. I'd imagine Clondaw Court will go off single figures though as to my eyes there is a lack of quality in the staying novice hurdle division in Britain and Ireland. |
By:
i do tend to agree with that cv...quality wise in this division, so see your angle
have been working on the race myself for a while, as race has served me well and do see a betting angle again this year you maybe right about him going off shorter just the experience would still hold me back, however he certainly has a lot of potential and i'd say he would like better ground |
By:
I wouldn't see better ground as being a hinderance, Champion Court seems to prefer better ground and really handles all types of ground.
This race hasn't really served me too well, have had the 2nd 3 years on the bounce. Only win was Nenuphar Collonges quite a few years ago now. I've a strong hand in it this year with Briar Hill, Kings Palace and now Clondaw Court. But having a strong hand doesn't always mean you'll come out with a winner. |

Budd - Mullins did say that Vautour's run looked more like a Neptune trial but he said on about 5 occasions he was burning up too much petrol by pulling and that a faster run race would suit him far better.
For me, the Neptune point was a throw away comment and he was far more concerned regarding the need for a faster pace |
By:
Entered up on Sunday over 2.4. Would make sense to go for that and leaves deloitte open to Vautour
By:
Had me wondering where Briar Hill would run. Think he'll go for the 2m6f Nov Hurdle at Clonmel that Irish Island won last year
By:
Pont Alexandre won Sundays race last year, Boston Bob before that, quel esprit ran in 2010 - lets hope Faugheen doesn't maintain their 100% festival record if he does run on Sunday!
By:
2 of those 3 ran in the Neptune too!
By:
Yep! They to say Quel Esprit 'ran' in the Neptune may be pushing it
![]() |
By:
Though, not they!
By:
True
but the intention was there. |
By:
Anyone else think Willie might have run Faugheen in the Cheltenham trial on Saturday? No track experience, no travelling/being away from the yard experience. You cannot replicate the Festival but a few questions might have been answered.
By:
Yep - I hoped he would but never felt it was at all likely. Bar Annie Power he's only really bringing his second and third tier horses over on scouting missions
By:
Synergy Security Solutions Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) used to be a trial for the albert bartlett didn't it??
didn't weapons amnesty get beat here then go on to win the race, our vinnie ran last year placed and was brought down at chelt interesting, obviously pont won it last year and went for neptune |
By:
Well I think we can safely rule out Faugheen for the AB as Clondaw Court has been nominated for the the race. So like last year Ricci will have one aimed at each novice race.
By:
Unless there's another race Vautour could go for pre supreme then it's probably their only option to run Faugheen sat and Vautour on the 9th
By:
So does Moyle Park run anywhere, or have mugg hype merchant backers (me, 14s any race
) done their dosh? |
By:
Rumours on twitter saying Ricci Rich is trying to sell him?
By:
Don't see him going to chelt really after the Tullow tank did him. Know it was a slog but he'll be a fair way down the pecking order now I'd imagine
By:
Think the Moyle Park bubble was burst and he won't be Cheltenham bound.
Selling him would seem a good option imo if that twitter stuff had any merit. Ricci will have Faugheen, Pont Alex, Clondaw Court, Vautour and Annie Power all going novice chasing next term Who goes where?!? Mullins will have Briar Hill over fences too. |
By:
Un Atout will be back as well!
By:
Was Faugheen the twitter rumours were about and are rubbish
It was Double Irish B Connell bought - who ever thought it was Faugheen needs a new hobby |
By:
Faugheen!! No chance they'd sell him.

By:
Just been reading them - heart in mouth for a few mins!! Asides anything else, ruby is worth a few lbs compared to 99% of jockeys at chelt
By:
Clondaw Court too inexperienced for Albert Bartlett with only 2 runs and to be fair Moyle Park only been beaten once I think? By the possible Neptune winner
By:
Doesn't look like apache stronghold will be turning up - 40 on here now with zero waiting to back. Knew he was likely to not have a prep due to issues but looking like a decision may have been taking. Neptune is looking a tad weak at the moment
By:
Got Apache NRFB and already banked the money coming back as promo cash. No chance it turns up unfortunately.
By:
The challengers are starting to look a bit thin on the ground, even The Tullow Tank's looking weak enough to suggest he's headed for the Supreme although you'd think that decision wouldn't be made until after the Deloitte.
Who do we see as a likely second favourite here, maybe a good run from Red Sherlock at the weekend could put him in the frame? |
By:
what was the reason why he didn't turn up today anyone know?? what is the plan deloitte?? anyone know, thought today was the plan with the horse...if deloitte, does anyone know what the plan is with briar hill?? sorry just interested in planning if anyone has the info
By:
Willie has 8 entered in Deloitte, including Faugheen, so who will end up running is anyones guess.
By:
so i would hazard a guess that faugheen or briar hill will dodge the race so one of them may not prep or is that jumping the gun?? as cannot see them meeting in the deloitte
you can't beat the guessing game and i haven't even backed either but holds back any other horse you may fancy and also holds you back from forming a book |
By:
Willie will have to have a Wylie vs Ricci shoot out in both races.
Neptune - Faugheen & Sure Reef Albert - Clondaw Court & Briar Hill |
By:
Have just read Willie said of Sure Reef....
"My one worry about a race like the Albert Bartlett (at Cheltenham) is would he be too keen? But Ruby says he stays all day. So maybe Briar Hill be going Neptune? |
By:
at the end of the day mullie has lot of quality for every race, and there can only be 1 winner of each respective race, I realise he has to keep owners happy but these horses must eventually face each other.
By:
Well that was impressive today from Sure Reef, just before walsh allowed him to drift back you could still see that he was still pulling his arms out, then to pick up like he did was very impressive....so he's tanked through the race and then been eased back and given a 140 horse in gilt power a 6 length lead into the straight and a beating...he's available at 20's and faugheen 9/2...ummm.
The concern is that he's got that gangly green appearance about him and you just wonder if he could genuinely lose his place at some point in the neptune before finally getting going....20's is very big though. The difference between him and faugheen for the disparity in the price is simply that faugheen is a "face" and sure reef is coming into the frame late in the piece...that form today is as good as anything that faugheen has achieved thus far. |
By:
Would be concerned he'll end up in the AB as that was the way Mullins appeared to be leaning in his interview afterwards
By:
He did say that walsh said he'll stay all day that's true, without knowing the context it's hard to judge though if it was a suggestion from walsh to step him up, as we hear that sort of comment alot without them really meaning that's what they'll do, there's no need to go up if the horse has the pace for he shorter trip and he looks like he has that, couple with the keenness he shows and it detracts from the AB.
By:
You'd imagine the Wylie's will want to keep Sure Reef and Briar Hill separate, and I doubt Faugheen and Briar Hill will run in the same race.
By:
I've just watched the race and be looks more a stayer to me. Lost his position badly and was going best at the end.
Having said that, he'll more than likely only run in the AB if they think he's better than briar hill as I agree with above - can't see them wanting briar hill to take on Faugheen. |
