Trifolium v Felix Younger tomorrow, interesting match.
By:
champagne fever's race to lose imo - arkle loks bit short of depth to me.
By:
very interesting Mac,and an impressive winner will shorten a fair bit.
By:
Interesting you say that Howdi,i think the opposite.

CF is definitely the best horse in race, no doubt about that, I just have concerns with how exuberant he is. He might be prone to smacking a fence at speed over 2 miles. His run at Xmas will be a good test for him provided it's not a cakewalk.

Best horse or not, i aint sure, i aint sure either if hes the best 2m chaser. He won the Bumper and he won the Supreme, but winning those don't make him the best chaser.
Been just as impressed with a few others to be honest, at much bigger prices. |
By:
Mind you winning the bumper and supreme does mean he likes Cheltenham and will stand him in good stead for getting up the hill well again for sure.

It also means that he has beaten 3 of the top 4 in the current betting list for the Champion Hurdle in those 2 races. He should be an improver for fences and is a very worthy AP favourite for this race. |

champagne win gold cup next year u heard it here first

Maybe next seasons Gold Cup Howdi!
That's the thing though with CF, he's a gold cup horse for me, so no forgone conclusion he runs on The Arkle, every chance he could run in Jewsons, especially with Felix Yonger around. |

don't think any one is disputing him being fav FF,but that don't make him the best 2m chaser either. Time may prove he is, but their are others that imo could prove that as well, which is the point I am making.
By:
although as you know,i would dispute his current price.
By:
"He's a really nice two-mile chaser, and ideally I'd like to keep him and Champagne Fever apart," said Mullins of Felix Yonger.
so,does that mean in the races before Cheltenham? or all season?? |
By:
Don't see why they wouldn't take each other on in the Arkle, as they are in different ownership. It might suit WPM and Ruby to split them but neither owner is the type to be bullied. The Arkle is a far more valuable and prestigious race than the Jewson and as an owner in it for the glory - which Ricci and Wylie undoubtedly are - you don't get many realistic chances of winning it.
By:
Yep, totally agree.
Thing is though there are festivals in Ireland as well,so maybe he might save one for Punchestown and given his proven liking for Cheltenham that aint gonna be Champagne. Still, nrfb so all would not be lost. |
By:
If they've got mullins/walsh constantly telling one or the other that the Arkle isn't right for one reason or another then why would they argue with that, it would be very difficult for them to stand there and try telling the trainer his business, couldn't really see the owner saying, right then y horses are out the door willie.
By:
Yep,no point having top trainer and jockey if you aint gonna take any notice of them!! But having said that you can have a situation where it may suit trainer and jockey to have them in different races, and the owner wanting his horse in a specific race.
Anyway Im just wondering if the quote above about keeping them apart is for all season or just the prep races(so to speak). |

grandouet cruising
By:
grandouet didn't win but I've got to be satisfied, jumped brilliantly and did come back on the run in, tds was on his head at that pace.
By:
was posted 4 out duffy, don't think the arkle market will be affected too much by that race
By:
Yeh, I thought it was about then you posted, I don't know, I'm taking lots of encouragement from grandouet out of that run.
By:
I said before the race I didn't think 2m around Sandown on officially Good ground was going to see TDS at his best, and it made him make an error or two. In the end I thought he did well to finish 3rd. That said I would not be confident about him lining up in the Arkle now, even then Cheltenham's test of stamina on slightly softer ground will suit much better.
Hinterland lookes progressive. Once again it is NJH & PFN with the best chasers. Both Alan King's runners tailed off. |
By:
I didn't have a bet in the race it was more of a watching brief for me, I did expect grandouet to win though as the best horse in the field but as sint said maybe the winner is more progressive.... wouldn't touch the winner with a barge pole for the arkle though
By:
Impressive from felix there, he looked in a spot of bother at one point but as soon as walsh asked him he was there in a stride.
By:
Felix Younger probably the most impressive of the Arkle hopefuls we've seen today - did Graham Wylie not own this horse in his hurdling days?
By:
Mullins holds all the aces by the looks of things. Don't think he'd be too worried about the outcome at Sandown
By:
He did SYT.
By:
still owns it doesn't he?
very impressive agreed! so mullins has the best 2 arkle candidates so far... |
By:
Ran in wife's colours today which is where a slight amount of confusion may be

"Trifolium went some gallop and never missed a beat. I loved the way he quickened up - he was very good," Ruby Walsh - Felix Yonger. He is probably a great bet for the Arkle with the NRFB concession to £50 ? |
By:
Ruby seems to prefer a step up in trip:
"In fairness to Trifolium he went some gallop.and he never missed a beat the whole way around. I couldn't say I was confident the whole way, I was just hanging on and hanging on but you would have to love the way he quickened up from the second-last and the way he went away after the last. He's really good" "He is very professional but you must remember he has age on his side. He was second to Simonsig in the Neptune at Cheltenham so he'll definitely get 2m4f no problem" Jewson more likely than the Arkle based on that I would think. |
By:
Thanks - did not realise they were Mrs. Wylie's colours.
By:
Well maybe Ruby wants to have a good chance of winning 2 races.
Felix has now beaten 2 good horses over 2m and pretty comfortably at that. Both races were run at a fair pace and he cruised to the front and won going away both times. The Arkle should suit him perfectly with a fair few horses around that like to be up with the pace. Who knows what they will do,but to me its a no brainer as to what race FY should be in.I would think Mr Wylie would know that as well!! Maybe they will consider Cfever for the Jewson?? After all he will definitely get 2m4f no problem....wont he Ruby!! |
By:
FY looks great but there is no way in hell they will move a horse from his preferred race when he was won at the last two festivals. FY would be good in the arkle but if they have to move one to the jewson it sure as hell won't be CF
By:
I reckon felix will end up in the jewson
By:
and we all know that wylie is malliable, tidal bay WH proves that
By:
It's the "hanging on and hanging on" part of Ruby's quote that would surely worry backers were he to run in the Arkle?
By:
Well at the moment FY has shown hes a 2m chaser,CF has not.
I really hope both go for the Arkle, and certainly FY deserves too from what I have seen. |
By:
Not sure why he said that,we all saw the race.
