For Willie to try Un Atout over 2m4 and win suggests he will be Jewson bound. A good race to look after future chasing stars and not get slogged in the RSA. Nothing will get passed Champagne Fever in the Arkle
|

mullins could put a traffic cone in the arkle and it would be fav but Champagne fever does tick all the boxes in my view
guts balls determanation has bundles of the lot my selection am afraid 8/1 patrick power |

Does anyone else think Defy Logic could make up into an Arkle horse? Paul Nolan talked about stepping the horse up in trip last season, but to me he appears to have bags of speed, and given how enthusiastically he races, a longer trip may stretch him, as it did against Mala Beach. If he jumps well, I think it'll take a good one to beat him over the minimum trip.
Other horses I'm looking forward to seeing over fences are Un Atout, Champagne Fever, Bright New Dawn, Rule The World (if back from injury) and Un De Sceaux (if he goes over fences). I also think Felix Yonger will be competitive in Grade 1's this season. |

Surprised no-one's mentioned Raya Star. As highly rated as just about any who may be fencing,(159) he's done nothing but improve over his three season's hurdling. King elected to put off chasing last season and was rewarded with another good season, but has said he's back in training and heading for fences. 2 miles should remain ideal, King has done well in the Arkle over the years and, at sporting odds, he could well be in the mix. I backed My Way de Solzen at 46 when he won the Arkle and have duplicated those odds with Raya Star. Would be surprised if he doesn't trade a lot shorter as the season progresses.

Still well happy with my 33's that I took on Grandouet in January.
While he didn't reach the heights over hurdles that I thought he would, he was certainly not too shabby over the smaller obstacles, and could mix it with the best of them. Was going well in the Champion when falling, and if I remember, just didn't stay the extra distance at Aintree. I've always thought chasing would be his game though, as I think he will have the scope for fences; but we shall see. Stats prove that the best hurdlers go well in this, assuming they take to fences in the first place. Cyclops, Raya Star has the same owner as Grandouet, so because I'm hoping Grandouet goes chasing, I don't know if he'd want them both in the Arkle, and may want to split them up? However, if things had worked out differently, there would only be one word for 2014 Arkle - Darlan ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
I'd imagine that if Darlan was still here he'd be the reigning champion hurdle winner, and My Tent Or Yours would be going for this seasons Arkle.

Grandouet is staying over hurdles i think ^^^

Henderson "Although MTOY could easily switch to chasing,at this moment we're leaning towards another campaign over hurdles, hopefully leading us into the Champion"
Grandouet likely to remain over hurdles "He did fantastically well over the summer and,at six, has the potential to prove himself at the top table,he deserves better luck" |

Really like Rebel Fitz as an Arkle horse and he'll be the horse to beat if he gets there next March. The current 25/1 is massive imo.
Would be a fan of Chatterbox too but didn't hear any mention of him at Henderson's Open Day a couple of weeks back. Anybody have any news on him? Grandouet does stay over hurdles, as does Jezki, and I'm be shocked if they went over fences with Un De Sceaux this season. Puffin Billy is another who could be exciting over fences too. Apparently Champagne Fever's schooling has been electric ![]() |
|
By:
Av backed Chatterbox for the Jewson - owner said 2 weeks back he starts and prob stays over hurdles this season

|
By:
Puffin Billy stayin over hurdles too
|
|
By:
Aww feck it. Don't know where they're gonna direct Chatterbox over hurdles as he probably won't be good enough for the top class 2m hurdles and doesn't won't 3m imo.

Grandouet going chasing now after hendo sayin 2 weeks ago he was stayin over hurdles

the chemical one would make an excellent politician imo.

GRANDOUET
Track Grandouet View form 6-y-o; gelding Breeding: Al Namix (FR) - Virginia River (FR) Trained by N J Henderson Form: 1F11-2F6 Smart two-mile hurdler without a win in three runs last season and came down four out in the Champion Hurdle. Rated 166 all outings last season and remains on that mark. “Has already jumped a couple of fences at home so has got off the ground which is promising – very good indeed. We’re quite excited because he has done exceptionally well through the summer. Still has massive potential.” |
|
By:
enderson also revealed his classy hurdler Grandouet will embark on a novice chase campaign this term.
"We have been schooling Grandouet over fences and he loves it," he said. "I think he'll go chasing whereas I think we've more or less made the decision that My Tent Or Yours will stay over hurdles and give him the chance to see if he is a Champion Hurdle horse. "We rather hope he is and we'll definitely start over hurdles." |
|
By:
Sounds like minds made up there. Was going 2 back him at 17/1 on here for Arkle until Hendo said he was staying over hurdles. Ah well still think 10s is a great price.

Nice run today from Defy Logic,contender.........hopefully!!
Liked this one over hurdles last season and taken to fences ok. |
|
By:
I quite like the look of Balder Success at 33's for this. As wellchief said the good hurdlers tend to go well in this and while not in the same league as Grandouet he still ran to a fair mark. A lot will depend though how he recovers from his fall
|
|
By:
Joined the Balder Success club this morning, took 20 nrfb, and looking at the front 2 it looks fair value. The fav yet to be seen and the 2nd fav jumps far too big to be a candidate at this stage and should be a lot bigger price imo.
Took a chance on Defy Logic at big price on here before his run the other day,and right now happy with those 2. |

Last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero Champagne Fever could make his fencing debut in the Connexus Communications Beginners Chase at Punchestown.
Race is over 2 and a half m.......interesting!! this is one that will run and run all season as to which race he ends up in at Cheltenham imo. |
|
By:
Willie has 4 in the race budd, so by no means certain to run. Assuming that he takes to fences - this must be very likely for a horse where going straight over fences last season was a serious option - then I would expect him to be entered in all 3 novice chases at the Festival. If he matches up though the Jewson and RSA have nothing like the kudos of the Arkle and it would be a surprise if the owner isn't keen to see him in the blue riband race....unless of course he has a better option....not beyond the realms of possibilty with Ricci's firepower.

I would think backers at the price hes been would like to see him running in 2m races myself.
I certainly would, but then I would not back him at the prices anyway. I agree hes likely to be in all 3 races, and as they are thinking about 2 and a half for his 1st race tells me they probably aint certain at all what his race will be next march.Still as you say he has others entered and maybe he will start in a different race at a different distance!! As I say its gonna run and run,and personally would not even think about backing him for one race unless I had a nrfb option. |
|
By:
One good thing though........all the time hes in the Arkle prices on other horses are bigger!!
|

could be a very competitive arkle this season
champagne fever, defy logic, taquin, balder success and the horse i am most looking forward to seeing running tomoz felix yonger he may not take in the race felix because of champagne but i wouldn't be pinning my hopes on champagne just yet knowing what mullins is like good competitive race at punchestown tomoz will tell us more but felix is the horse i am looking forward to the most for the season ahead but because of mullins and the guessing game hard to guess where to put any cash as cannot be asked doing my cash on a non runner anymore... have learnt the hard way on that score shame as think this felix yonger will go to the top if they can get a clean run with him as he obviously has not been the easiest to train. as much as i can see him being an arkle horse the merry go round says keep the powder dry as he will probably end up in the jewson its anybody's guess though |
|
By:
well we know CH can jump a fence now,but as for his target, one of three still.
yes Harry,Punchestown will be very interesting watching for sure. Im on Defy Logic at nice prices on here, and Felix is one that could well be a big threat. |
|
By:
have to say budd have been chomping at the bit myself with defy logic and the arkle...his form stacks up great and i just like him...
have a few concerns however, his keenness in his races they say they have worked on it but he was still very free on debut, will he be free at cheltenham and how his jumping will hold up?? not that he didn't jump well on debut...other thing I'm just not sure he is a winter ground horse and whether that is important to him... another problem has now arisen is taquin and mccoy in the akle and whether they would go up to the jewson trip or not?? although his run style says arkle... one thing that is not in doubt with defy logic though he has one hell of an engine anyway we will learn a lot today and questions will be answered as the ground is ok...but like felix moving forward and todays generous odds but have to say these 2 are horses in focus for me lets hope they both get round safe and sound |
|
By:
yeh, fair concerns mate re Defy Logic, and its not a great race for front runners-not that I give a monkeys about stats really. To be honest mate,i am always concerned about novice chasers,in particular 2m chasers.
DL is definitely exciting though and just could look pretty good value(16) compared to Cfever in a few minutes. |
|
By:
Impressive FY,not so DL
Looks like hes not as good as I thought.you were right about FY harry |
|
By:
Be interesting to get the jockeys thoughts as re Cfever and Felix.
|
|
By:
ye he is is a good horse did it nicely...i am not a big ante post bettor anymore...i was desperate to back this for the arkle but champagne has scuppered that...shame as he was a good angle but who knows what mullins will do...one thing is for sure though he has 2 very good novices to go to war with
|
|
By:
just had a look at nrfb,BV not priced FY.
will keeep an eye out, I was very impressed. |
|
By:
ye i have to say i tried that but no firm had priced him before today...if willie told us that was the aim i certainly will be having a few sheckles
|
|
By:
but will he
![]() |
|
By:
probably not
but at least with BV you could have the nrfb option |
|
By:
ye but if you were him what price would you put him in at 10??
|
|
By:
think he may go a bit bigger,12-14.....16 would be nice!!
