certainly wants the trip doesn't he, little bit concerned that on occasions he takes a bit too much time in the air.

Based on the comments following Goulanes last week, he has to be a four miler........yeah right

That was over 2m 5f, an extra 3f at Cheltenham and a stronger pace will be right up his street, would want to be a bit faster in the air though

Another 3 furlongs and that hill will be right up his street.

Sounds like one of those Willie comments that you just ignore, my view is he usually ends up doing the obvious thing after weeks of faffing, then again Willie Wontie?

He may faff about as you put it, but he doesn't control the weather.
By:

When: 09 Feb 13 19:04
He doesn't but it it looks like he needs every inch of 3 miles to me, wouldn't be backing him again over 2 miles 5 no matter what the weather.

Fair comment. He does look as if he would still need the extra distance whatever the ground. I think the weather talk is the back in focus factor. Then again, if it was soft i think BIF could still go for the 4 miler.

It was a great example yesterday of how differently people see racing. Personally I immediately thought that Nicholls would aim Unioniste at the Jewson as he would have been outstayed if Hadrions Approach didn't buckle on landing two out or if the race was another 1/2 yard - i don't think he would stay the gruelling RSA trip at his age in a horse box yet Nicholls thought he proved he was an RSA horse yesterday. Boston Bob looked like he would have no chance in the Jewson given the way that is was only his solid jumping and stamina which won him the race over the trip yesterday yet Mullins is mulling over the Jewson when he looks tailor made for the RSA! Racing certainly divides opinion

agree boston should go up in trip...but horse just doesn't look the same to me this year he certainly isn't progressing how you would hope...the step up in trip may help but nagging feeling he just isn't as good as people hoped he would be and last years festival has left its mark...

mullins has campaigned him as if he hasn't been happy with him and is born out in his performances thus far on the track...he has to improve and to my eye is not picking up a progressive profile...yesterday should of been a real chance to shine against those horses and the trip can't be blamed as lord windermere is not a fast horse and neither is the second but still the animal didn't have the pace...something is not clicking and he certainly doesn't warrant a wager at the festival whatever race he runs in...not for me anyway

there were only 6 runners and four of 'em finished in a line...speaks volumes for me, horse not as good as initially thought for whatever reason - certainly does n't justify 253 post thread on here - the 'marmite' factor notwithstanding.

I'll be keen to oppose him whichever race he contests because he'll be over bet.

Would n't be the first time if I'm wrong, of course.

He's a plodder couldn't go the pace in the Albert Bartlett so is going to always struggle in championship race.

if he runs in the RSA whoever rides him is going to have to go for home a mile out as it takes him 5 furlongs to quicken. Laugh

If he does go for the Jewson I will run around also but if there is snow on Cleeve hill I'll be keeping my clothes on. Agree with Graeme re alleged going/weather comment that it has more to do with BIF who I imagine will only run if going is on soft side. WM appears to have settled more or less on his novice hurdle options but I reckon we will have to wait on the chasers - the 4 mile chase complicates things further. The RSA is very seldom won by sprinters so I reckon it is made for BB.

Mullins to keep Wylie pair apart

Willie Mullins is not making an instant decision about how to split Boston Bob and Back in Focus at the Cheltenham Festival. Both the staying novices are owned by Graham Wylie and have similar records over fences, with last year's Albert Bartlett runner-up Boston Bob only scraping home in both starts.

Back In Focus has shown more in three outings, culminating in a narrow defeat of stablemate Aupcharlie in a Leopardstown Grade One over Christmas. Of Boston Bob, Mullins said: "Pedigree suggests a longer trip. Back In Focus stays all day. He has the same owner as Boston Bob and they won't go for the same race.

"Back In Focus could go for either the four-miler or the RSA. "Boston Bob is in the RSA, he could drop back to the Jewson but we will see nearer the day. We will try to pick the easiest option for both of them," he told At The Races.

FFS, this would kill me and finish me off backing Mullins horses AP.

How can the jewson be the right race for BB? Never in a million years. Surely sense will prevail.

After Saturday Boston is a major mover in the London Marathon betting despite fears the trip will be on the short side.....

Surely it will be::

Arkle - Arvika Ligeonaire
Jewson - Aupcharlie
RSA - Boston Bob
National Hunt Chase - Back In Focus

for Willie Mullins main novice chasers, if it did come up soft maybe then you could possibly justify (although i'd find it hard) putting Bob in the Jewson. What i don't get is Willie keeps saying he looks like he wants further but then goes on to say he might go for the Jewson.

That's my reading of things also. And I have bet accordingly, on Saturday's running I can't see how a valid case could be made for BB going anywhere except for the RSA.

Boston Bob will run in RSA unless its heavy. If its good ground in a Jewson he would get swept off his feet. Back In Focus is too slow to win a good ground RSA.

I would advise people to scoop a quid or two of the big prices for the 4 miler. I read that Ruby will pick Unioniste anyway, so whatever the score is you would have to think BB if he even goes, will not be going off as any favourite.

If BB was going to go for the 4 miler then I am sure someone in the Mullins yard would be taking the 60's on offer on here. Ruby will definitely ride BB in the RSA and not Unioniste IMO..................and win!

I hope you are right BJG by the way but I m not confident he won't ride Unioniste

If Dynaste runs in the RSA I still think Unioniste will run in the Jewson whatever has been said thus far
