Entered at Leopardstown on Saturday. 2m5f lets hope he runs. Ruby to ride if chelt abandoned?
By:
Interesting - would he also run in the JP Moriarty if he runs sat? Would be 2 week break
By:
Not sure; most of Mullins RSA horses use the Moriarty as their final prep, but 2 races on heavy ground within 2wks?
By:
Anyone know when this is gonna run? Yet again has skipped another engagement
By:
You wouldn't want to be playing Willie at poker........
By:
The Wylie's should've sent this horse to Nicholls.
By:
4-1 for the 4 miler
By:
Bookmakers responding to entries. To most people it will look a totally pointless entry but as Mullins appears to thrive on confusion then it is probably no surprise at all. Strange that Harry Topper has been entered.
By:
Whens this thing gonna run? Time is marching on. Also fair bit of money for stablemate Back In Focus today
By:
9th feb
By:
I wouldnn't get ahead of myself in thinking this will turn up on the 9th. Money for his other runner that they said wanted it really soft, and BB has had one run and no news on him ?
By:
We'll have to wait and see but the volume on back in focus isn't huge. To be honest, if BB needs decent ground then i have no idea why he was sent to Mullins and not Nicholls. Puzzling
By:
The ground has probably been worse over here. Although i think he should have been sent to PN anyway.
By:
He will run in the Dr PJ Moriarity on Feb 9th

mullins said last year his last run b4 chelters in january may have taken more out of him than he thought...now he is running him 2 weeks closer to festival on heavy ground !!!! not so sure he will run
By:
Brindisi Breeze ran on a bog at Haydock towards the end of February and he managed OK - sounds like a trainer looking for excuses to me whereas the real answer was beaten by a better horse on the day.
By:
Florida Pearl and Cooldine (both trained by WP) won the PJ Moriarty en route to winning the RSA. So unless there is something not right with Boston Bob, I would expect him to run in the race. IMHO the races last year at Leopardstown took the edge off both Boston Bob and Hurricane Fly in advance of the Festival as the ground was simply desperate. So fingers crossed the rain eases up (maybe hope against hope). Having said that, he has had a light campaign this season so the Moriarty should bring him along.
By:
Light campaign is an understatement, he's the same age as Long Run and has had one run over fences in his life, he only had four over hurdles.
For all I know he might school brilliantly at home but surely another race before the festival is surely infinitely preferable to worrying that an outing on heavy ground might bottom him. The rate they're going he'll be about 27 before he lines up in the Gold Cup! |
By:
Also stablemate being well backed for Sun Alliance, not looking too good imo.
By:
I thought soft ground was as good as they wanted it for Back in Focus ?
By:
Wouldn't be too worried about him not racing much this season, Mullins seems very skilled at getting his novice horses ready for the festival.
By:
I don't know about anyone else but after BB won his chase debut WPM gave the strong impression the horse would need a long break. All these entries that have come and gone were never intended, in my opinion, the plan was to go straight for the Moriarty. Where he goes after that we'll have to see!
By:
Why does this trainer not inform anyone what's happening with certain horses, are all journalist,s frightend to ask him and inform punters, I know they don't run there horses for punters, but what would they do without us? I wish all trainers were like Paul Nichols, how does W Mullins and to a lesser extent D Pipe write coloums in the racing post, they wouldn't tell you if it was dark outside.
By:
Crownbarman has nailed it,i find the best thing to do is dismiss anything he says, but Mullins isn't alone on this

By:
Dr PJ Moriarty this weekend. Looks like he has Bacn In Focus to beat. Will the owner want both his horses to face each other? If so, will be interesting to see who Ruby picks.
By:
Texas Jack, Lyreen Legend, MDH the others.
Lord Windermere unlikely to run according to trainer. |
By:
I really can't see both Wylie horses going for the same race.
By:
"Both are in the Dr J Moriarty Chase at Leopardstown on Saturday, so we'll see how they go. I was hoping to get an easier task for Boston Bob for his second chase. While I was delighted that he won on his debut, I wasn't exactly jumping for joy afterwards. Back In Focus is a real stayer."
More cryptic put away from Mullins. I've broken the code, and it reads "I have handled Boston Bob poorly as my record with chasers isn't exactly first class. We thought alot of Boston Bob, but i bottomed him after oen run and Back In Focus is more likely to go for the RSA as a result". |
By:
Graeme I reckon you should contact Mr Ricci and all WMs owners - you would have a full stable in jig time.
By:
That wasn't much of a reply there arkle. You're basically saying nobody should criticise unless they can do a better job, which is silly really. If you criticised a footballer, would you expect someone to say "oi you phone the board of directors and manager and tell them you want a game". I do think though that BBs owner should have sent this horse to Nicholls. It's called having an opinion.
By:
I am concerned with the way Boston Bob has been handled to be honest. I am on him at 8/1 RSA from way back and am bemused as to why he has only ran once this season. Not the ideal prep for an RSA.
By:
Bob wasn't a good hurdler and he blundered almost all of them in Albert Bartlett last year. It's like his feet move slower than his brain. Can't see why he is so popular tbh - just hype, seen them all before.
By:
Must be quite decent to finish 112 in Graded hurdles when his feet move slower than his brain....
By:
true enough - it's quite funny how the bookies are looking at him though, the usual Mullins 'machine' is terrible value by now and he seems easy enough to back...
By:
they must have had problems along the way,we dont know how good the horse that beat him at cheltenham was, looked like a stayer to me last year in the ab,just couldnt get there, all is not lost yet !
By:
there maybe something WPM is not telling us with those comments because I think it is fair to say other than his jumping of fences BB was not impressive on debut.
Done with all the cloak and dagger bullocks re this horse now, hopefully he runs this weekend and we know what's what. |
By:
it has to be remembered the brutal ride given to the horse in the albert bartlett last year...walsh gave him the full treatment, one of the hardest I have seen him give a horse and rightly so but I just wonder how much it hurt the animal...
By:
Back In Focus NR tomorrow, Boston Bob faces 5 others: -
Klept Boston Bob Star Neuville Texas Jack Lyreen Legend Lord Windermere Guessing if Bobston Bob wins tomorrow Back In Focus would run in the 4 miler, if Boston Bob gets turned over then it could be the other way around. |
By:
I know you should take WPMs comments with a pinch of salt but im not sure he is bound for the RSA (if he wins), due to the fact he has had only 2 chase runs (after tomorrow).
By:
I think the drying ground is a help and on his homework I think he's improving," said Mullins
he thinks???? this kind of comment sums mullins up, surely he should know? |
