If he meant Simonsig, I'm not sure you can judge his jumping competence from 2 runs in points as a very immature horse with an amateur rider on his back. Until we have further evidence to the contrary, I'd rather stick with the judgement of NJH and BJG who have both said he needs a fence.

P.S. I stand by my comment re Sprinter he has no chance of even turning up in this years Arkle ;)

the way the market is going in the arkle it seems that there must be something more definite about what he's going to be going for this season.

After seeing Simonsig's PTP wins, I can't help think that he's not going to prove as good over fences. He almost appears to hurdle his fences, which isn't the worst thing in the world if you have a tall horse, but he isn't the tallest of horses. Maybe he is just well measured when jumping fences, but he is practically brushing through the top, and those PTP fences are definitely no where near as stiff than regulation fences, and you could argue they look a few inches smaller too. So although that yogi (bear) bloke can try to change the horse's technique e.g. Change the horse's jump arc to make him jump higher, and land sooner. I would worry that he'll be out jumped by taller horses. 

I'm sure they know better than me though, but these are just my thoughts on what I've seen.

Wonder why.....looked to have found a very suitable introduction for him today. Wetherby is a very fair track and the fences much less formidable than they used to be.

Well he has obviously schooled well enough. Sandown is one of the last places you take a horse that can't jump fences.

Just trawled through the first few pages of this thread.

Awful lot of people not impressed with Overturn going chasing,and a fair few not rating his chances of success as a chaser at all.
Be interesting what they say now!!

Really goes to show we should wait till voicing strong opinions,which in reality is just guesswork.

yeh,we all do a bit of that,but to say he should never go chasing,and wont jump a fence etc??

I'm going to give my opinion now.....i reckon he will be a good chaser this one.

Only just watched this. He did look good, no mean feet to jump round Sandown like that in your first race over fences, in ground they may not have been ideal either.

I remember Somersby putting in a similar round of jumping in his novice days at Sandown. I'd actually have him as Arkle favourite on the back of that, so I don't think 8/1 is bad at all. Well played to those who backed him at bigger prices.

Funny isn't it that Overturn is in to 8's for the Arkle and Simonsig has drifted....erm, well nothing.

Very rare indeed a 9 yr old winner, however two of the classiest winners were 8 - Moscow Flyer & Sizing Europe, and it would be 25 years since the last 9 yr old. Certainly if you are purely a stats only person you wouldn't go near Overturn

Overturn better form as a hurdler,although obviously not Simons fault.

As for 9yr olds not winning Arkles,maybe thats cos normally they hade already run in the race by then.As been said,hardly had a 9yr old run in the race.

If theres value out of the 2,then has to be Overturn,though personally i'm not getting involved,not yet anyway.

The one thing holding me back Budd is I'm too often drawn in by impressive performances at this time of the season. Only to see far better performances over the next few months and to find out what seemed impressive at the time didn't turn out to be.

However, he really did look good yesterday and I think I'm talking myself into backing him too
