If I was the owner I'd look to beat Fingal Bay. Roll-on NRNB.

Just a reminder of what trainer said immediately after Sandown race:-
Henderson said: "Barry [Geraghty] felt Simonsig would have been better on better ground. It's just gone a little bit overnight and is a bit tacky. "He ran a very good race and Barry said he felt fantastic. He just said he maybe didn't get home over two miles four on that ground. "He just weakened on the hill, but it's the ground more than anything.'' |

poss interesting that Captn Conan is out to 150 for Supreme now but only 27 for Neptune....surely if there was problem, he'd be drifting for both, so would seem a decision has been made as to which race he'll go for...poss on account of trainer already being oversubscribed for Supreme

I saw on his trading history on here, there are two massive spikes for the Neptune not too long a go
both spikes were £2 trades in fairness, well chief! |
|

Same could be said about Mono Man as well mate. Hopefully the picture will.become a bit clearer over the next couple of weeks

Im Sure the trainer will tell all soon lol!

By:
Would you lay sonething at 30 odd when all the bookies are about 10's if you thought he was going to run? Even if it is for £2, someone either knew something or has a really strong opinion that he won't win
|
|
By:
I wouldnt be basing any of my judgements on some unknown person's £2 lay tbh

just knw as soon as they state which his preffered target is his odds will tumble

Not believe too much in what Henderson says, if he says anything at all!

That picture is brilliant

By:
is that a bottle wrapped in a paper bag in his hand?

By:
When I saw him he reminded me of Go Native, can see him getting a tow into the race, just wondering whether he'll go past.
|
|
By:
why wouldnt he go past? 4 wins and 1 2nd?
|
|
By:
Go Native won the Supreme anyway

Not only the supreme, the Fighting Fifth and the Christmas Hurdle. Nothing wrong with GN's attitude, people get him confused with Harchibald for some reason known only to themselves.

Simonsig is entered at Newbury on Saturday............over 2m.

Big test Sat v Vulcanite and Colour Squadron etc
Would be 5/1 SN fav if he wins imo |

Colour Squadron decent form should have won lto, should be informative race.

Think Henderson today suggested Keys was likely to run at Newbury (meaning I assume Simonsig may not?).
|
|
By:
I thought that it had in the card on Racing Post website that Geraghty was confirmed as rider?
Strange - he seems to be running all his main hopes in the next week or so. Maybe Tinkler or Bass could be on Keys? At this stage it must be hard to avoid running stable mates against each other. |

See the horse has ben trimmed for the Supreme and pushed out in the Neptune by some bookmakers presumably due to the weekend entry.
Is it really worth the gamble over the shorter trip purely because there is no standout in the Supreme and the horse has travelled well on slow ground over a longer distance. Yes, he may well improve on better ground but over the shorter distance there must be a pretty good chance of him being outpaced against ex-Flat horses. The Supreme idea appears to have been talked up by the media and Henderson may just have swallowed it. It may also be worth noting the horse has no form left-handed. With Bobs Worth last year and Simonsig this it really does make backing Henderson novices ante-post a no-go area. |

Henderson has consistently talked about how much speed the horse shows at home...and all the horse's performances have been characterised by speed (trav easily, quickened etc)...no way henderson is simply 'swallowing' a media theory |
|
By:
id be shocked if this horse is out paced in the supreme...he has an amazing cruising speed and travels so well...the supreme is his race for sure.He very much reminds me of sprinter sacre last year in that he travels very well. Like sprinter im not 100 % what he ll find in the way of really quickening up the hill ( again like SS in the supreme last season ) my information is that he is held in simlar esteem at 7 barrows...good luck
|
|
By:
just looks like one of those that cruise on the bridle and then doesn't pick up
I say "looks like" because I really don't know - we will find out in March. I can see him hitting short prices in running so back to lay looks possible not had a bet yet in the Supreme |
|
By:
Travelling very easily on slower ground over longer distances proves absolutely nothing in relation to taking on speedier types in the Supreme. Being beaten by Fingal Bay on slow ground hardly constitutes a reason for waving a white flag and stepping into the unknown. Logic would suggest a rematch with Fingal Bay in the Neptune or alternatively if it comes up soft the race Spirit Son won at Aintree last year.
|
|
By:
Logic suggests you don't know what you're talking about. Horse clearly has plenty of pace and showed it on quicker ground in both his bumper and first appearance over hurdles. Why on earth would they take on a horse that has beaten him fair and square over a trip he didn't quite stay. Neptune is over a 1f further too. Absolutely bizarre to say Simonsig lacks speed.

Nicky Henderson has entered Binocular, Oscar Whisky and Simonsig in the Victor Chandler Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso on Wednesday.
Henderson has made no secret of the fact that he is running out of options for his star two-mile hurdlers and Binocular was due to run at Sandown last week before it was abandoned. Oscar Whisky is declared to run in a 'jumpers' bumper' at Kempton tomorrow while the novice Simonsig has an option at Newbury on Saturday. The Seven Barrows handler may be wary of a trip to the Borders track, however, as he sent Zaynar up for the same race in 2010 only for him to come up short at odds of 1-14 against Quwetwo. Zaynar did finish third in the Champion Hurdle the following month. The three Henderson entries are among 16 with Brian Ellison's Marsh Warbler and Donald McCain's Desert Cry given the option, although both have been declared in Saturday's Betfair Hurdle. Cape Tribulation, Local Hero and Nicky Richards' Simply Ned, on a four-timer, are other interesting possibles. |

Where is the public evidence that he has plenty of pace? He looks to have a high crusing speed no doubt but the bumper he won at Fairyhouse was over 2 and a quarter and restricted to pointers. The horses he beat at Ascot were trees. Other than his run behind Fingal Bay, he hasn't been in a decent race. |
|
By:
Came there cruising against FB and got well beat, did not stay or dont find much off the bridle??
Jurys out on that one imo |

Festival, i agree the evidence form the track is what it is, but i think some weight has to be placed on trainer comments, and the word used to describe the horse constantly is 'speed'. Maybe the trainer is wrong or misleading us but those comments added to the way he travelled against Fingal and walked away at Ascot lead me to think speed is not an issue (excelleration may be, as I have said above).
I thought Fairyhouse suggested stayer but have revised my opinion since to some extent. A good judge I know (who posts on here) who saw him with his own eyes in Limavady (fwiw, the form has had knocks) told me in October that 'Simonsig has so much natural speed it's hard to see him not being effective over 2m'. I have come to that conclusion too. Time will tell. |
|
By:
Like a lot on here, I'm a Simonsig fan. The Sandown race was 2ml 4f, the Neptune 2ml 5f. Sandown was only g/soft, which the Supreme is usually run on. We all know he has a high cruising speed which a very fast run 2ml should suit him ideally. If you couldn't pick up at Sandown, I can't see an extra furlong suiting. Either that or Fingal Bay is out of the top drawer
|

By:
Henderson entering him into an open company race says a lot to me
|
|
By:

High cruising speed = plenty of pace. Surely? Williethemilk - think it was a combination of the two. Fingal looks pretty damn good to me. |
|
By:
Geraghty said the sticky ground did for him more than anything at Sandown. There have been plenty of jump breds over the years that travel really well during a race but can't quicken. If he is seeking to avoid sticky ground by the way, he should steer well clear of Kelso!
|
|
By:
FF - that is my minor-ish doubt at the moment, will he quicken over 2 against out and out speed merchant 2 milers?
