Vulcanite is set to be Sheikh Fahad Al Thani's first Cheltenham Festival runner in the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
He has become one of Flat racing's leading investors over the past two years and his Pearl Bloodstock silks have been carried to top-level success by Lightening Pearl and Dunaden, who captured both the Melbourne Cup and the Hong Kong Vase at the end of 2011. Vulcanite, who posted an impressive victory in a Southwell novices' hurdle on January 18 is a 20/1 chance with the sponsors for the Festival's curtain raiser.. Trainer Charlie Longsdon revealed: "Vulcanite is a likely runner in the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle at this stage. He has been in good form since Southwell, and I plan to give him one more run either at Newbury (February 11) or Sandown (February 17) before Cheltenham. "I would like to get another run into him just to give him some more experience and to sharpen him up, but obviously if the weather is not great then we won't go anywhere. "His victory at Southwell was only a schooling round and he won as he liked, which he had to that day to be honest. His first run at Kempton (2nd, December 26) was good form behind Tetlami. We were very green that day and we threw our race away over the first two hurdles, but he pulled well clear of the rest so you couldn't knock his attitude. "I would like to think the more experience he gets the less keen he will be in his races. To be honest, I would not want the ground too quick at Cheltenham because he is quite upright, but it is always on the easy side of good on the first day at Cheltenham so I am sure that it will be fine. "Sheikh Fahad is very keen on going to Cheltenham and that is reason behind having this horse as a jumper. He will not be investing in the Jump game as he did on the Flat, but if this horse is a success he might have a few more, but if not then he probably won't have any more, so it is quite important for us that we do a good job with Vulcanite." |

The Deloitte is clearly going to have an impact on both running plans (between SN and Neptune) for some horses and will affect markets. I have dying to see Galileo's Choice run especially on better ground which he may not get a week on Sunday. He's generally 16/1 for the Supreme but would shorten massively if he wins his trial. I can imagine him relishing a very strongly run race, better ground and the stiff finish. Group 3 class on the flat he has plenty of ability and would interesting if jumping slickly to conserve his speed for the climb...but for me he must finish first or second at the Deloitte first

Be interesting to seem the time of the race, do you know what it was? Could only listen to it on the radio and they sounded to crawl and then he kicked on approaching the 2nd last and he sounded to be in the right position tactically all the way though.

it's a hard race because there are so many with potential yet it is difficult to predict which will fulfill that potential on the day - I am still waiting for clues over the next 2 to 3 weeks because at the moment nothing convinces me at all

ye the same...but cannot see a decent bet coming to mind...wouldn't surprise me if weld dodged the deloitte with galileos and if he didn't prep he also wouldn't be for me...

Yes Harry, he has to have a prep if not he is deffo no bet - but then I say the same for all my selections, need a prep run before I risk money

he is now best priced 14s Harry for the SN which tells me he will run next Sunday and they expect him to win/run well
Thing is if he bolts up he could be 7 or 8/1 for the SN and if he disappoints who knows |

Agree about the price...ye might have a minor tickle if a defo runner on sunday although not sure he really wants the ground that is about in ireland at the moment...well he doesn't, but if declared will have a small bet maybe...

Trofolium was very impressive. But got first run on Ruby, and not sure quite hos trong the form was. Pink Coat was close enough to the rest of the field to make it pretty questionable imo.
12's is ridiculous imo. |

I think that's the best piece of 2m novice hurdle form so far this season.

Jumped well, travelled well, slammed a very useful one in Simenon and a couple further behind are no mugs either.
All in all an excellent performance imo Still think if Simonsig turns up he's the one to beat though |

I had a little bit on So Young at 7/1 NRNB w/out Big Bucks for the World Hurdle today after Trifolium won.
So Young shook him off fairly easily over a trip well short of ideal. Back on to the Supreme Novices, I still haven't got a clue who'll win. My main bet in it is Simonsig, but got small stakes on Mono Man and Fourth Estate. All three might not even make the line up at the moment, let alone win  |

Impressive as he was, he did get first run on Simenon and I'd fancy that one to get much closer next time. Not sure how good Simenon is either, as he doesnt have enough form to properly assess.
I was impressed, but think its a big leap of faith to suggest its the best novice form we've seen all season tbh. If it is the best piece of form on offer, then So Young is a really, really useful tool. |

Yes the Deloitte harry, worked really well on Friday and EOG is very pleased with him. Forecast to be lashing down all week which should suit, so just keeping everything crossed now!
I know I'm biased but do think he looks value compared to a few in the betting. Cinders and Ashes is shorter, as is Galileo's Choice, and I think he has much better form in the book than them both... and darlan for that matter. |

Agree his form stacks up well pal but sunday will tell us more as looks a hot race on paper...can't wait to see him over further... well this supreme looks an open race pal and he has the same chance as a lot of others in a very open renewal...but sunday will tell us how gooder chance he has a cheltenham especially with the ground likely to suit him at leopardstown... but have a good day and hope he wins for you...he certainly won't be out of place at cheltenham thats for sure... |

The wether must have struck a nerve with some trainers. Take aa look at the entries in the (Class 3) novice hurlde at Newbury on Saturday. They include Colour Squadron, Captain Conan, All the Aces, Ericht, Keys, Montbazon, Simongsig, Tetlami, Vulcanite (and 33 more). Could be a most informative race.

Basically got every runner with a chance entered in these two races this weekend! Shuld be very, very informative, even if the going in Ireland looks like being heavy.
Interesting that both Simonsig and Tetlami are entered over 2m at Newbury. Obviously Tetlami is going down this route, but looks as if Simonsig will be too... |

Montbazon is entered for the Listed race the day after at Exeter, so this Sunday. This is the race King nominated for him after his last run so I dont expect to see him at Newbury.

Surprising there arent a few more entered for that Sint. Looks easier than the Newbury race, and a significantly bigger pot.

re Colour Squadron .. im not surprised he is not entered for Exeter actually given the way he hung at Sandown last time. Looks like he prefers going left-handed to back to Newbury where he broke his maiden makes sense.

I noticed the other day that fourth Estate was entered into a two and a half mile race this week. He's been taken out now though but looks like he could be a Hendo neptune one
