BJG - I know IAG was beaten but the front 2 were miles clear. I am speaking through my pocket, but tell me if I am wrong, was IAG given a stinker of a ride? He was ridden hands and heels and only given 1 slap. Think they may have been looking after him?
|
By:
It's A Gimme was given an awful ride today I have no idea how he got that beat against that bunch. Would not take the form too literally.
Pleased with Midnight Game today he's coming along nicely. All of his races so far win or lose have had good horses in them & he looks on the way up. |
By:
Another big winner for Alan King at Ascot today. He really is having a much better season after that muscle-enzyme business from a few years back.
I wonder if Montbazon will be out next weekend at Cheltenham .. significant pointer if so. |
By:
I also think Its a Gimme was given a pathetic ride. He'll improve for that IMO significantly. Seemed like a very odd race to return him in. Whether he can win a supreme is another matter (I do not think so) but that, today, was all about giving the horse as soft a race as possible.
I cannot have Cinders and Ashes on my mind. Good horse but I would fall from the stands roof if he turns out to be the best 2m novice either side of the Irish Sea. |
By:
He is entered on Friday Sint, at Fontwell. The novice at Cheltenham is over 2m4 and I suspect King will keep him at 2m. The River Don at Doncaster is over 3..
|
By:
OK cheers. Look forwards to it and hope there is some reasonable oppo.
|
By:
Quite agree Sintonian, King having a terrific yr and good to see him back. Mont also enetered at Hereford on Wed.

HOW GOOD IS MIDNIGHT CHASE BEEN TOLD GET ON TOOK SOME 25S SCORE EW FIRST ANTIPOST BET AT CHELTS
FEW BOYS I KNOW RATE IT!! |
By:
Midnight Chase may lack the speed for the Supreme Novices imo
Midnight Game reasonably impressive today but wouldn't be in a rush to back him either |
By:
Agree about Dylan Ross BJG... race wasnt really run to suit him and he was produced far too soon.
A clasic small field Irish race where its hard to be confident about the form. That said, I think it was very telling Mullins chose Midnight Game from the several he had entered, and he is clearly a very useful horse who is progressing nicely. Certainly one to keep on your side for the Supreme imo, especially as he thinks he will prefer better ground. Cindres and Ashes impressed me, but still think his price is utterly ridiculous when you consider he's winning poor quality, small field races on heavy going... and is not far off being favourite for the Supreme. Madness imo. |
By:
LOL chase game mix up here lol
|
By:
Well we might have the best Arkle in prospect for some time but I can't say the same about the Supreme. Normally a fancied horse wins it but a big outsider would be no surprise to me this year.
|
By:
Colour Squadron looks about best to me until Montbazon runs again
|
By:
Far too early to be downcast on this race. Plenty more to happen yet.
|
By:
As midnight game been pricewised 25s Saturday nite smashed now! I'm sure it was not my score ew!!
|
By:
Midnight Game was impressive last Saturday and looks to be improving. There was a lot of confidence earlier in the season (my first cheltenham bet was a lay of 7/2 a place on him in November!) and I think that has been renewed.
|
By:
Yes I was impressed with Midnight Game... looks like he could be peaking nicely for March.
|
By:
He was one of Mark Howards picks i think, all i know is i'm happy having grabbed some 75's a few weeks ago
|
By:
I wish i knew wat Nicky planned on runnin here - like 2 of his but no entries
Cant b havin Darlan |
By:
Darlan would need a 15lb claimer to have a chance imo.
|
By:
Surley Simonsig is the one for NJH. A strongly run two miles looks most suitable based on the run with Fingal Bay.
|
By:
Darlan NO CHANCE. even 15lbs won't help
Feeling bullish about Midnight Game. Montbazon jumping was just too poor & that 's rare for AK horse |
By:
Tetlami?
Mono Man? The 2 of his im interested in |
By:
But both seem to be gone into hibernation
|
By:
I agree Sinto, now Mono has suspiciously drifted (much to my AP portfolio's chagrin). I do believe there are races for him still and races that his handler targets, but I cannot understand the drift for the race unless they are going to run on the Weds. Simon is the best 2 miler I have seen this yr this side of the Irish Sea (any side in fact) but the vibes are inconclusive.
|
By:
Fourth Estate runs tomorrow. Campaigned very similar to SS as a bumper horse.
|
By:
Interesting MM, hadn't noticed that. He was entered into 6 novice hurdles, 2 over 2m4f and 4 over 2m.
General 25's and 33's is too short for me for the Supreme without a hurdles run, but will watch with interest. |
By:
Yep he is quite highly rated in OJA. Could be a live one.
|
By:
BJG looks that way especially Mono Man last entries i remember for him was just before xmas none since.
Not good sign needless to say on at good prices before 1st run this season when pretty unlucky not to win imo. Awaiting Sous Les Cieux and Cash And Go with interest next time out. think Mullins horse much better than showed lto. Still hopefully make line up for Supreme/Neptune. |

Trainer Jessica Harrington reports Steps To Freedom to be bang on target for the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
The six-year-old is an 8-1 chance with Sky Bet for the curtain-raiser at the Cheltenham Festival as he continues his build-up to March following a victory on his last outing at the track at the end of last year. Harrington told sportinglife.com: "After he won at Cheltenham in November he had two months out. He is back in now and cantering away so he will do his first bit of work next week. "He may have a run on the all-weather before Cheltenham he may not, we will wait and see. Other than that he goes straight to the Festival." Steps To Freedom's defeat of Prospect Wells at HQ was mission accomplished as far as Harrington was concerned as it gave him valuable big-match practice at the course. She explained: "We were delighted with the way he handled Cheltenham. The ground was probably a bit softer than he likes and I am hoping for nice ground in March. "He was good, handled the switchbacks and if you consider he was at the end of quite a hard season running on the Flat after a busy summer, that is why he had a break after to freshen him up for the spring. "He jumps well and the great thing is he has won around Cheltenham so has the experience of the track. I always think that counts for a lot." |
By:
Fourth Estate ran well enough today but still looked very green. Faster pace & better ground will suit. Obv will need to improve a lot but only his 1st run over hurdles & showed he has plenty of gears.
|
By:
Entries deadline today so should find out who's on target etc. by tomorrow!
|
By:
Entries released Thursday I believe MM - National entries out tomorrow (also always interesting!)
|
By:
Ah thanks Stront!
|
By:
Ted Spread dotted up in a first time tongue tie today but I wouldn't go overboard about the form; with all due respect to the opposition, it wasn't the strongest of races. That said, he had Group form on the Flat, has an entry in the Supreme and will be entered in all the handicaps at the Festival.
So, all in all, a very satisfactory day that has us looking forward with great hope. |
By:
I thought Fourth Estate ran a creditable race today, on what look like really sticky ground.
Not bad considering it was his first run over hurdles and first run for 290 days. My first impression was the Neptune because he was getting pushed along earlier than some of the others, but looking at it again he did take a good few lengths out of them in a matter of strides (although the opposition wasn't up to much). I'd imagine he'd have an entry in the Supreme and the Neptune. Wouldn't be surprised if he was turned out again quite quicky if the ground gets a bit better. |
By:
Re Fourth Estate i know one of the part-owners and yes, wellchief you are 100% correct on both accounts re ground [he prefers good] and another quick turnout. Henderson thinks very highly of him, they've been praying for good ground, but couldnt hold out any longer and ran it today, even though it was on the softer side of good. Some of the other owners are desperate to see it run at Cheltenham, with the aim being the Supreme. I thought he looked like he had a decent cruising speed, and even though he was beating trees I thought Egerton's horse looked decent enough, so the race done what was needed, it seemed like it blew the cobwebs away a bit. I just hope that if he goes to Cheltenham he'd have ran his oppo into the ground enough before the hill, got a horrible feeling it may just find him out otherwise. Haven't spoken to my contact, but if he says anything meaningful I will let you know.
|
By:
Oscara Dara has entries now - he looked a nice horse last yr and could be an interesting recruit.
|
By:
Ted Spread looks a shoe-in for another handicap imo. I'd no rule out a step up in trip either. Think he is probably worth following given he has only had two runs for PFN. On his flat form he could still be anything imo such is the upgrade in stable.
