How about impressive first time winner Distant Memories? Despite not beating much, won very well and if fully transferring ability from the flat would be a serious tool.
Any thoughts? |
By:
Could be literally anything, hard to tell with only 1 hurdle run on heavy ground.
If he comes out again and wins on better ground he will probably shorten. Whats his jumping like? Did not see his race. |
By:
Certainly seemed to jump to a reasonable standard and some of best flat form on decent ground.
Interesting! |
By:
Hadn't even seen Distant Memories had gone hurdling but he is certainly an interesting one.
|

Another interesting McManus-owned youngster is It's A Gimme, last seen beating the smart Colour Squadron in a Newbury maiden hurdle in November.
"He'll have a few entries in the next week or two in small races and we'll see how he gets on there. His form obviously looks strong, lets hope it's as good as it looks," Berry added. |
By:
Mono Man not entered for anything w-end again, not looking good.
|
By:
I wouldnt worry yet Stevo. Still 8 weeks to go...

CM...Interesting race Saturday at Naas if they all stand their ground. Plenty of decent formlines to be franked.

The Supreme Novices is looking the most open in years at this stage. My main hope was Waaheb as he looked the one horse who may have had that extra touch of class compared to his rivals but sadly he's a non. I like Colour Squadrons form, the head hanging was a bit alarming the last day but perhaps in a championship race with a bit more cover he won't have to be in front too long! Strictly on formlines I therefore want Montbazon and Mono Man in the book and at current prices look fair enough value. More recently tho I've added Allure of Illusion to my ap book. Saturdays run was a cracker in my book. Nearly brought to a standstill by a faller when the eventual winner kicked on and nicked valuable lengths. I liked the way he travelled up to the eventual winner and went down battling all the way to the line. Reportedly suited to better 'faster' ground I think this horse must have a huge chance and the price will tumble in the coming weeks. GL All

too early to be panicking Steveo. Read R Carvers analysis, it suggest Hendo will runs his best one late Jan/early Feb.
|
By:
It will Sint - Darlan in TS Trophy!
|
By:
I hope that analysis works out Sintonian, I really do!
Looking at the races available this weekend, there is nothing really on the Friday, the novice at Ascot on Sat is over 2m3 (and Hadrians Approach (amongst others) is entered, he having won over 2m6 at the track last time) and there is the Rossington Main over 2 at Haydock - the entries have been re-opened for that race, so he may turn up there but given that the ground at this stage is heavy, and given that could be a hot race with Cinders and Ashes possibly running I would not be surprised if they ducked it as well (and they swerved the Tollowrth because it was deemed too hot for him at that stage). |
By:
There is also a race at Wincanton (not entered), although I do not think the very best novices are run at that track by N Henderson (or Market Rasen / Towcester, as on Sunday).
|

The one I like here is Dylan Ross. As has been said he has a similar profile to Go Native. Slowly run races here in Ireland hardly suit him and a fast run 2 miles (aka Supreme Novices Hurdle) will be right up his alley. He's nailed on to be on the bridle turning in in my opinion, although he may get out-battled up the hill. He travels so well though that I think he's a fantastic each way bet. He'll travel better than anything and when Carberry sayd GO! after the last I think he'll cause a few heart attacks.

Fair shout slabster
He will certainly like the ground and travel for a long way, just whether he finds up the hill but he looks like he wants further so fair shout in an open race for me.. do hope he isn't another harchi this thing however |
By:
That could be a very informative race Ned. Would be great to see Dylan Roos sluice up and give his form a major boost

Cinders And Ashes
He is a smashing horse and done everything right this season. He should have been unbeaten so far and will have another run hopefully this weekend at Haydock - if not we will go somewhere else. He is an exciting horse and I am thinking of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham for him. |

Timeform have tipped C&A today aswell fwiw..

Philip Hobbs has suggested Tolworth Hurdle runner-up Colour Squadron will be ridden with more restraint when he is next seen.
The six-year-old was beaten just a short-head by Captain Conan in the Sandown Grade One on just the fourth start of his career. He appeared to have the race won having made all the running but hung badly over the final two flights and inside the final 100 yards to allow the French import to edge him out on the line. "It's still early days with him. Nothing has come to light as to why he hung, we'll have him looked at by Mary Bromley, our physio," said Hobbs. "It could be that he just wants riding differently. When he hits the front, he just finds it all a bit awesome, particularly at Sandown coming up that hill. "Obviously he shouldn't hang but if he's a bit awestruck by everything he's going to go one way or the other, so being ridden differently might help. "He made all at Newbury and hung slightly so we changed the bit, but it was much worse at Sandown. Going the other way didn't help. "I definitely see him as a Cheltenham horse and he's got loads of pace. I don't think good ground will worry him," he told Racing UK. |

Vulcanite

Its A Gimme who beat Colour Squadron and Mono Man at Newbury last time is entered in the last at Wincanton tomorrow. Could be informative.
|
By:
That Naas race has cut up to only 4 runners tomorrow. But should still be pretty informative with Dylan Ross, Distant Memories and Midnight Game in it. Small but select field.
|
By:
C'mon Dylan - gotta travel for this if he wins
Prob woof it again tho |
By:
Vulcanite for me also...
|
By:
Come on distant memories! Very interesting race tomorrow.
|

preview of the race at the following link:

By:
Informative day instore tomorrow. Its a Gimme and Cinders and Ashes both out too. Wonder if NJH thinks that horse can beat Cinders & Ashes, or he's just giving himself a benchmark for home work
|
By:
It’s the Tolworth today, which apart from the Supreme Novice at the Festival is the only Grade 1 race for Novices over 2 miles. The Tolworth is usually a good signpost for the festival, although runners who do well in this race often contest the race now known as the Albert Bartlett over an extra 4 furlongs.
Just read your preview Mark....Sorry to be pedantic, but the Albert Bartlett is over a mile further. Think you mixed it up with the Neptune. Cheers |
By:
No need to apologise CCM, stupid error to make, thanks for pointing it out.]All the best Mark.

Enjoyable read Mark, good work.

Vulcanite does seem a value price at the moment with 33s still available. Ran very free early at Kempton and says a lot that he was still going so well at the home turn - with a decent pace I can see him reversing form with Tetlami and there are several past winners of this race who come from a simlar good class 12-14 furlong flat handicap background. Trainer stated this as the aim since a bit of further education at Southwell this week and with it being his owner's only NH horse it's hard to see him not turning up for the race.

Cinders and Ashes won well again today
|
By:
Hmmm... Dylan Ross was taken to the front very far out today
|
By:
Missed the race BJG, what happened? Was Midnight Game impressive and was Dylan Ross beaten far? Thanks
|
By:
Distant Memories was well beat - jumped bad
Dylan Ross came between DM and the outsider 2 out i think and went to the front under pressure - kicked 2/3 clear but Midnight game was travelling easy in behind MG came alongside at the last and won by about 2/3l (DR eased down) under hands and heels and they were miles clear of the 3rd |
By:
Interesting, thanks BJG.
Would you maintain any hope for him in the Supreme? |
By:
I still would tbh - was very surprised how he was ridden, seein wen PC rode lto he was held up till the last positive minute - hit the front early tody but to me it looked like the blinkers helped a bit.
Head dint go in the air wen he hot the front and kept goin to the line - just beat by a better one on the day A more patient ride and a strong pace in a big field will be a massive help i think |
By:
Kent Street lets C+A for down there - very poor
|
By:
Its a gimme disappointing
Another negative for the race! Looks a very poor renewal |
By:
Its certainly looking that way BJG
I would have expected Its a Gimme to beat a horse that last ran in a Fontwell bumper and was beaten 19 lengths. The more the season goes on, the more I think this could be the one for Simonsig; looking so much easier to win than the Neptune. Cinders and Ashes running in 3 runner races off levels when he's got about 2 stone in hand doesn't really tell us anything. Can't have him around 10 - 12/1 |
