Fitzgerald was hyping up Punchestown !
Finians Rainbow went into the Arkle with an OR of 156 hardly impressive,so i doubt very much if any comparison was made with Flyingbolt. Probably your fibs. Sprinter Sacre has an OR of 169. Now then which one has the real class? |
|
By:
And you can't keep bringing up Punchestowns he was a very good horse who imo gave Big Buck's his hardest race over hurdles. He then did very well in his novice season before finishing lame in the RSA. He hasn't been the same since and has not been seen this season. It doesn't take the largest brain to work out there's something wrong with the horse. There was much more talk about Long Run that season anyway so I'm confused how he can even be compared to Sprinter?
|
|
By:
Wise words Masterminded Thieves is deluded.
Finians Rainbow has only reached 164 after 7 chases. Does thieves think that the handicapper is also mad! |
|
By:
Of course Barry Geraghty does not know if Sprinter Sacre is better than Finians Rainbow.
![]() Come on Thieves. You have gone quiet. |
|
By:
There was more talk about Long Run because the twit couldn't decide if he was a 2 miler or not!
Seriously, you cannot rate horses against each other on a jockey's opinion. Not unless your aim is poverty. Point is that 164 for FR is a lot less than you would have imagined he could achieve to hear Henderson and Geraghty waxing lyrically about him. |
|
By:
Come on Thieves a jocks opinion backs up the OR. You make out that BG is clueless, that is naive on your part. We are not talking about Dougie Costello talking about a 72 rated animal.
Finians Rainbow went into the Arkle on 156!!!! All they were saying was that they expected him to go very close. He has never been considered the real deal, unlike Sprinter Sacre. 169 after 3 chases. You are just being contrary for the sake of it. |
|
By:
Sadly the current official handicapper already revealed himself to be a prat and has got caught up in the hype on this one. SS's OR should not be above 160 at this stage. Basing his rating on French Opera is a huge clanger in my view, as that horse has never produced his highest rating first time out. The beating of I'm So Lucky doesn't work either as he wouldn't be suited by the track.
Gab, I'm not discounting that the twit and his jock may be right for once and this might not be another of their false messiahs but the evidence isn't there yet, in fact far from it. |

Thieves I agree very much not to trust jockey or trainer comments on most occasions when they are made to the media.. BUT.. The whispers of 7 Barrows have been talking about this horse for 2 or 3 years now. Long before he was on many people's radar. The only reason the trainer and jockey are making the comments now is because it's there for everyone to see. Well most people can see obviously there are still a few doubters..

French Opera is rated 162. So what mark would you give Sprinter Sacre who beat it 6L on the bridle in receipt of 5lb from FO. |
|
By:
Also Thieves
I'm So Lucky ran close to his mark in 09 at Newbury against Planet of Sound, so to say the horse is not suited to Newbury is also naive. |

Also Thieves
French Opera performed poorly first time out last season when not right. ( well beaten 9/9 ) In previous seasons he has run up to his mark first time out. So it is safe to say that your logic or knowledge is flawed when you say the Newbury race in which Sprinter Sacre won has been assessed incorrectly by Phil Smith. |

Personally i dont think Sprinter Sacre will ever fall. Sticking my neck out i know, but he is the most natural jumper i have ever seen. He corrects himself when taking an extra stride and never over pitches. 3 races and not one mistake. So if he stays sound and has 5 races every year for the next 4 years, lets say another 20 races in his career. I am saying he will not fall or unseat. The horse is brilliant. I think you need to watch his race at Donny again where he made a couple of (admittedly minor) jumping errors but errors all the same! I watched this last night just to remind myself of why i wasn't completely convinced by backing him for the Arkle after just that run to which he was a 8/1 chance before it and i think a 7/2 after it. |
|
By:
I think SS will run to at least 170 on Tuesday with no mishaps, as per the official handicapper. If he does and something beats him, then fair dinkum. It will be very interesting to compare the winning time of the Arkle with the QMCC, even though the ground should be marginally quicker on Wednesday.

I think you need to watch his race at Donny again where he made a couple of (admittedly minor) jumping errors but errors all the same! This is the post race reading. What you see are not mistakes they are corrections/last min alterations. He is very clever at his fence. Jumped well, raced keenly, tracked leader, led 6th, soon in command |
|
By:
AG...I think STS has a point. SS made a balls of the water jump at Donny, rapped the take off bar at the open ditch on the far side at Kempton and also got in very close at the last there. However, your assertion that he is clever is also well founded and he appears to have an instinct - he is certainly very nimble and athletic for a big horse. Hendo's assistant alluded to it in an interview....horses either have it or they don't......not something that can be taught. I hope never to see him on his backside but this is jump racing and these things do happen.....look at Moscow Flyer's record over fences!
|

By:
STS
He only had to adjust at the 2nd fence. Where is the second mistake? ![]() |

you ok AG?

What the hell are you talking about. He made NO mistakes.

By:
you ok AG? Buddeliea
No ..some idiots on here are trying to tell me SS made mistakes at Donny!![]() |
|
By:
No bigger fan of the horse than me AG but he made a balls of the water jump at Donny....watch a re-run if you must!
|
|
By:
Festivalfanatic
He never made a balls up of ant fence at Donny. |
|
By:
Just watched it, he adjusts at the 2nd (water jump) not fluent but not a mistake.
|
|
By:
I can assure you he did mate.....watch it again. Suspect he'd never seen one before.
|
|
By:
FO has never run near his best mark FTO FACT. ISL has tired badly whenever he has run on a 2m oval, this tendancy tends to get worse in horses as they get older. As I said SS should have been given about 160 with a big fat plus but nontheless 160. Zaynar didn't even bother to jump a fence next time and his head has clearly gone again. The clock? How many times does this have to be explained. Very rare to get decent ground for the only race run at this trip each year. If you don't believe the ground was faster than usual then you must believe that Burton Port and What A Friend are better than Denman was at his peak!
|
|
By:
You said he made a balls up. Its not even a mistake. Got in a little close, adjusted. Thats not a mistake.
|

![]() Dont think we can start to crab his jumping, hes a real natural. To be honest i have been very impressed with AF's jumping as well, not sure hes made an error either-touching wood here!!! Think thats where these 2 are ahead of the others. For me its all about how much improvement comes next week, and how they perform at Cheltenham in a true run 2m nov chase. I'm confident as one can be in this game that AF will be ok and will have improved,i'm also thinking SS will improve, but not so sure about him performing at Cheltenham,as he has elsewhere. If he does AF has a problem!! |

Sprinter Sacre will be the Champion 2 miler for the next 3 years and reach a rating of 180+ Thats my prediction. |
|
By:
Well out of the Arkle runners hes the only likely one that could do that imo.
AF will step up in distance i would think. |
|
By:
Key part of that line is the number at the end Gabs. 138...
|
|
By:
And what was his rating before that Thieves
Yes 138 |
|
By:
So can we say he ran up to his mark?
![]() He did the same thing the season before as well. |
|
By:
Gabriel, it wasn't a handicap - he was rated 138 beforehand but beat a horse rated 115 by 10L. That's about 30lbs lower than the OR he had after just 2 more runs! He has never run to his best fto, RPR of 129 fto last season!
|
|
By:
138 beats 115 by 10L.comfortably - how do you know he never ran to his mark?
He improved as that season went on as a 6 year probably expected. Season before 25Oct08 Ain 17GS C2HcH 12K 11-8 1/14 (2¾L Dishdasha 11-1) 5/1 Marcus Foley 132 His form stacked up. |
|
By:
Regarding Last season for French Opera, first time out he was not right. He was beaten 7 out after a mistake. You can not use that as an example.
Ok lets take French Opera out of the race. Sprinter Scare gave I`m So Lucky OR 150..5lb and beat it over 8L on the bridle. What rating SS ? |
|
By:
Sizing Europe is rated 176 and I think it's debatable whether he'd get Sprinter Sacre off the bridle.
