He can set a strong pace which will leave the others without a kick.

Tell you what...can I have some of that 3-1 now??

The Supreme if full of horses who travel like a dream and find diddly squat - Youllneverwelakalone, Sweet Wake, Ameretto Rose etc.
It is also often won by a total rag who had no chance on the form book - Arctic Kinsman, Arcalis, Ebazayin, Indefence etc. There are at least 4 horses trading at 30/1+ who I think could run very well so anyone who thinks it is a two horse race needs there head tested. |

Oscar Whisky pissed up in novices last year then only 4th in Supreme

Left for dead up the run in? Hosing up in the bumper and against 140 rated novices then finishing 2nd in the international against older more experienced types when supposedly undercooked is hardly the proof is it?There is nothing in the field that even holds a candle to Cue Card on the ratings my only concern is that he goes for the champion instead of the supreme

I hear ya call it a day.
Still think he is crud |
By:
He's a worthy favourite for sure - but lets say he's a genuine 2/1 chance, that still means he only wins 1 in 3 runnings so I'll try to find the big price one that wins one of the other two[;)]

I have a feeling the Tizzard's will run Cue Card in the Champion. Just a hunch. With so many good hurdlers around going down the CH route they will have a good idea where they stand before going novice chasing next year.
Another possibilty is that they may think some of this years Champion Hurdlers like, Peddler's Cross, Menorah and Oscar Whisky will go novice chasing next year if they don't make the grade. Tough call. |

The Champion Hurdle? What's Cue Card done that would justify him lining up?
He was a good bumper winner and the media ken to sell racing were quick to say "oh look we have another Dunquib" Big difference is Dunguib proved himself to be a force over hurdles to be reckoned with. Cue Card to date won a Mickey Mouse hurdle race that any leading contender in the Supreme would have won in a hack canter. He then takes on Menorah and the minute the pressure is applied his head goes up and nothing. He got away with in bumpers because like most bumpers the horses that run in them are usually not fully matured or would already be be running over hurdles. If a couple of other Champion Hurdle horses had run in Menoraha's race what then? Menorah would no doubt have coped and made a race of it but would Cue Card have found any more? The answer has to be not a cat in hell's chance. Cue Card has had one test at the top level, taking it that Menorah himself is good enough to run in the Champion Hurdle, and he's fell flat on his backside. If anyone thinks he's going to have things his own way in the Supreme then they are in for a rude awakening. The pace of the race will be faster than anything Cue Card has ever come up against and he'll do exactly the same thing as he did in The International. Just because you win the 2 mile bumper doesn't mean you'll see the trip out at Cheltenham over hurdles. With Cue Card he's one of two things. He either doesn't get the trip in top class or he's a complete rag and I doubt he's the latter. A couple of posters have said garbage rubbish or whatever but if it wasn't one of these two things what was it that caused him to go from hack cantering to nothing in a matter of strides? You can't say it was Menorah quickening up that made it look that way. Not when Cue Card was cantering all over Silviano Conte yet never gained an inch on him when asked. I'd put Binocular and Dunguib away ahead of Cue Card both had proved themselves as worthy contenders for the Supreme yet neither was actually good enough to win the race on the day. I could find a thousand 3/1 shots who don't have to take on a Nicky Henderson flying machine or some unknown from Alan King David Pipe's PN's or some Irish yard that will probably pop up nest week and beat the lot of them. He'll drift like a barge on the day as the bookies always want to lay his type. Best bet could be to back him on the place market and hope there's a few split at the top of the hill and he hold on for 3rd.[:p] |

You still ignore the fact that Cue Card was full of running off a mighty strong pace in his first hurdle win at Cheltenham over Dunraven Storm. They finished in a very quick time.
I discount the International run purely because of the false pace. False pace can give you some awfully dodgy results. What happens to Binocular when there is no pace? Looks a completely different horse. Yes, he didn't visually quicken after cantering all over them but a sprint finish does not suit him. He still held on for second beating some very smart types in the process. He was still green when he won the bumper, so although generally a lot of the horses are/were still maturing, he still lacked in that department with only two runs to his name but still destroyed them. You think any Supreme candidate would have run that novice hurdle at Cheltenham in a hack canter? I beg to differ. |
By:
*one run to his name.
By:
Cue Card will run in the Supreme. Connections will see sense that they cannot beat Binocular, Hurricane Fly, Peddlers Cross and Menorah to name but 4.
By:
I think CC is definitely the one to beat in the Supreme but I do have a sneaking feeling he may run in the CH. If not I think he will be a bigger price on the day especially if Sprinter Sacre wins this weekend and Zaidpour turns up.

Cue Card was anything but full of running when beating Dunraven, watch the replays and you will see that running down towards the final hurdle CC was 8 lengths up on DS then having jumped the last you will clearly see Tizzard ask the horse to extend buy pushing away at him only to find no acceleration, all he did was stay on at the same pace to beat DS the same 8 lengths as he was before asking the horse to quicken,if anything DS closed in a length on him, exactly the same happened in the INTERNATIONAL,travelled like the wrath of god,had all but Menorah off the bridle at the top of the hill and when you would then expect to see some sort of turn of foot, there was nothing,Menorah went by him like he was stood still and all CC did was simpley stay on at the same pace,he was not even able to extend away from SC or the 4th and 5th,in fact SC actually came back at him towards the line Add to that the fact that the horses who he beat in these races DS,SC,Clerks Choice are all horses who like Cue Card need further, add to that the fact that SC did not run to his true ability that day as he was having his 4th race in as many weeks,he has faced one true 2 miler to date and we all saw what Menorah did to him If you truly believe that the winner on this years supreme only has 4 lengths in hand of clerks choice and 6 lengths in hand of cristal bonus then good luck to all Cue Card backers I have nothing against Cue Card and think he is enormously talanted, but he is simply running over a trip to short to show his best and from what i hear he is 90% certain to go for thye champion hurdle anyway |
By:
Not going to bother repeating myself because I'll only say the same things again in response to that, TFM. I will say that I think you are underrating Clerk's Choice, who, although not beating much, looked devestating off a fast pace at Cheltenham. Think he is a bit underrated in the market at 66/1.
By:
THEFORMMAN, how do you hear he is 90% sure to run in the Champion. If you or anyone knew that it wouldnt be 3.5 on betfair. Ridiculous comment.
By:
stable contact passed it on,feel free to keep backing for the supreme tho, good luck

By:
CT was meeting the owners today, he was going to decide then, so may be wise to watch the betting.
By:
If they go for the Champion, I think it will be the worst Cheltenham decision I can remember in my lifetime. The Supreme looks at his mercy, and the CH is the best renewal for ages.
I'd be stupified. |
By:
CT pushed the idea of the Champion Hurdle to the owners and they look set to trust his judgement and faith in the horse, the guy is clearly a mor0n,he is loving the attention from the media so much and wants to be part of the most talked about race of the festival
By:
Decision about target is being made tonight innit??
Anyone got Mr Tizzards phone number? ![]() ![]() |
By:
May well go for CH as see it's future over fences, so their thinking may be why not give it go. Agree though a really bad decision.
However agree with others that might be vulnerable anyway in Supreme and think it should have gone for Neptune |
By:
Colin Tizzard said of Cue Card only a couple of months ago "we don't want to rush him he's a very good horse" "He has a lot of years ahead of him" or words very close to that and now he's contemplating running him in the toughest Champion Hurdle in years?????
Don't suppose it much matter what race he loses in |
By:
He'll run in the Supreme IMO. If they are not careful they will break the engine in Cue Card. The Champion Bumper takes a lot out of a young horse anyway IMO no matter how easily they win it. WTF they are doing thinking about Champion Hurdle's I don't know. He has a favourites chance in the Supreme but there is no way he will even place in the Champion Hurdle and it would be smart to keep him in novice company and look after him a bit. |
By:
not going down for the festival if he runs it in the champion.
By:
Ridiculous if they run in the best champion hurdle for ages !!, would still be the horse to beat if lining up in the supreme, cant believe that they are contemplating the switch !!
By:
I don't believe they are. Gossip is the Festival ante-post punter's biggest enemy. Some whispers are proved right, some wrong - what's the point in conjecture? Nobody knows where he's going bar the owners and trainer (and even they might not know now).
By:
Went to have a look and see if he had moved in the Champion Hurdle and the market has been suspended. Anyone know why?
By:
Siily me Forfeit stage isn't it?[:x]
By:
Being placed in the CH is worth as much as winning the Supreme. May have a bearing, who knows?
By:
Of all the shorties ante post, the only one I will be going at is Cue Card, think he will bolt up, can't see anything else in the field that would be capable of getting within 6 lengths of the 2011 Champion Hurdler (ie. Menorah).

Colin Tizzard has confirmed his stable star Cue Card is an intended runner in the Stan James Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham rather than the Champion Hurdle.
The five-year-old was a scintillating winner of last season's Champion Bumper and impressed on his first two outings over obstacles. He lost no caste in defeat when second to Menorah in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham in December and unless the Champion Hurdle picture changes dramatically, he will be back against novices on his return to the Festival. "We had a chat with the owner on Tuesday morning and we've decided he's going to go for the Supreme," said Tizzard. "We have left him in the Champion Hurdle, but that is just in case maybe three horses go wrong. "Things could change but we are fully intending to go for the Supreme as things stand. "We thought it was sensible to leave him in the Champion Hurdle, just to cover all options. "He's doing lovely and we've been stepping up his work for the last fortnight. He's got three weeks of pretty strong stuff ahead of him now." |

Excellent news. Always tell myself to avoid the shorties, especially in this race, but feel a big bet coming on....

Thank goodness for that. Feared for the CH but that will do for me. Been on a long time ago. Looks like I will get a run for my money with this one.

Slow clap for THEFORMMAN 90% sure he'll go for the champion.....you've got some great contacts in the yard mate........'cheers'

Is Megastar still going for the supreme novices anybody heard? I see he's entered this wkend..
Still has to get his favoured good ground which he should get in March.. Ran creditably last 2 runs in totally unsuitable conditions behind 2 top class novices. I had a nibble at 36's on here. Has fair bit to make up on Cue Card on champ bumper form tho.. |
By:
cue card is exposed hes a genuine 155 horse that might be enough but who knows what spirit son/sprinter sacre could be cue card is my lay off the day he found nothing of the bridle in the bula and the form of his previous win hasant worked out at all throw in hes ridden by a poor jockey 2/1 is a joke
By:
Wallace I think Megastar is a dark horse in the race. On decent ground he will be a different horse and he has a great frame that he's grown into this year. I hope they can get him in top shape because he could run a stormer in the Supreme.
By:
How is he exposed hes a five year old whos only had 3 runs over hurdles...How can anyone conclude that this is the limit of what he can acheive over hurdles? Spirit Son is a really exciting type but given what hes beaten to date and that his form is on soft ground i think his price is built around potential rather than proven form and his connections.I prefer Sprinter Sacre of the two he like Spirit Son is potentially really decent but like the before mentioned hasn't beat a great deal over hurdles and has a lot to find to get near Cue Card imo.I strongly believe that if Cue Card was trained by N J Henderson or P F Nicholls he would be shorter than 2-1
