opportunities when given the chance

Blimey, we might as well scrap all the novice races then

I'd stick with the novice route, and enjoy this season, then give the Champion a crack next season.

lol .... looks like we are going to get the usual shoyte from forumites who have 5 quid at 50s the Champion Hurdle for the next 4 months ... what joy.
Mentioned on the Morning Line Nick Luck has backed him the Champion Hurdle at big odds be interesting to see what mentions he gives the hores noses in the trough and all that.

sageform takes an interesting approach in assessing the true chance CC has, but I think the figures are slightly wrong.

I'd say he is shorter than Evens to be fit and well in March, much shorter than Evens to run in the Supreme, and shorter than Evens again to win the race (after all, his Timeform of 156 goes a long way to underlining what it will take to get him beaten). So, although I wouldn't know exactly what those odds would be, I'd guess the treble would be near 3s to 4s.

Personally, I am just mad for not backing him at 7s after Aintree!

We have a rare animal on our hands. Bumper winners should normally be given the body swerve for Festival novice hurdles but this one hurdles very well and will love Festival ground imo. No beating horses on slow ground in Ireland we already have evidence here he can cruise off a strong pace over 2 miles then kick. 3s is ok imo though nothing shorter at this stage.

i like him but so far he has beaten everything he faced in last season bumper which you would except him to beat again

davescrazy - you dont want to compare with last years supreme, was a very poor race and none of the principles are going to go on to top class. Do you know what the previous two supreme times were? - I am not trying to catch you out, I just dont know myself.

We'll see. Just hope the race is on. I do think the younger horses are the ones to follow for the big hurdle races this year.

What exactly has Menorah done wrong doing a Rooster Booster carrying 11st 12lb to victory in the Greatwood and has already won the Supreme?

When: 28 Nov 10 13:22
He's done nothing wrong. I think Cue Card has the class to beat him. He has it to prove, of course, and we'll see who is the best in two weeks time.

I guess he'll be about 2nd-3rd fav for the Bula so from that point of view I guess it makes some sense given the prize money and they can always drop back to novice company if he dosen't cut it.

He's only a 4 year old and why they can't just stick to the novice hurdle pattern this season and then see where they stand after the Supreme (if he even gets that far) I don't know. Why trainers and owners (and the press and public) get carried away when novices win a couple of races is beyond me - guess it's the way of modern society not being able to wait for what we want.

I know a few novices have won the the Champion Hurdle (Royal Gait, Alderbrook etc) but they were experienced high class flat racers. I can't remember a proper NH type novice winning a major all aged Cheltenham race - Large Action ran 3rd behind Alderbrook. I just hope they don't end up with another Gloria Victis tragedy on their handsCry

Bleedin' 'ell. Hope springs eternal. Keep taking the tablets uncle.
Cue Card is the best bumper recruit to hurdling since Montelado. That horse went on to win the Supreme in a quicker time than the Champion Hurdle two races later. Injury then interrupted his career and he was never the same horse again. Now, I wonder if his connections ever regretted not running him in the Champion after which his merit would truly have been appreciated.

was surprised to see he's going to take in the Bula but it makes sense - should determine whether he takes in CH or Supreme Novices and then they have three months to prepare either way.

To me, they'e campaigned the horse pretty sensibly to date.

Cue card will have Silvi Conti (159 bhb) and menorah (162 bhb) to beat in the Bula but will be getting 4lbs from each of them and has to win to go for the Champion.Cue Card himself is rated 160 and has the best chance at the weights based on the current ratings.

as good as silvi and menorah are and they clearly have the form in the book, i will be v surprised  if cue card doesnt win the bula. just travels and jumps so well, i dont think any hurdler at the moment can afford to give this horse, ill back him too if hes decent odds.

how will it be priced?

Can't see the Bula being on with the weather forecast for the next few weeks so it's all academic anyway.

Is Khyber Kim not an intednd runner - he'd surely be highest rated and very much the one to beat?

I've got a feeling you'll be right and if the race is lost it would be a shame but then again I'm just south of the arctic in Aberdeen with the best part of 2ft of snow in the garden. Looking at more tanking down you'd think it will be here all winter so I'm not optimistic about the weather.

Sorry I was a bit short with you earlier uncle. It still pains me greatly to think about Gloria Victis. What a beautiful horse and superb prospect he was. You couldn't have blamed the connections for going for the Gold Cup after his thrashing of Marlborough in the Racing Post Chase though, in my opinion. It turned out to be too much for him and he fell at a fence that claims tired horses and in retrospect it would have been better to wait another year. Easy to say that now.
I don't have similar concerns about Cue Card. Firstly, hurdling is inherently less dangerous than chasing. Secondly, I think the Champion Hurdle is a less dangerous race than the Supreme Novices. The latter always has a much bigger field going hell for leather and the average jumping ability of the horses involved is lower. Those two facts multiply to give a much greater risk of something going wrong beyond your control. I think the connections of Dunguib realised that last year and instructed the jockey to take him wide out of trouble. So they went for the less risky option but deployed tactics to counter the increased risk. That's a bit muddled isn't it?

I just don't see it being a hard decision at all
1) The horse is still very young
2) Step by step always prospers
3) if it wins the supreme well this year- brilliant- it can go on to better things next year like winning the Champion Hurdle.

EVEN if the horse wins its trial against menorah and Silviniaco it is such a hard race to win come March. And to get another great piece of festival form by winning the supreme in 2011 means it can go on and take the champion in 2012 if its good enough.

And whatever people say the supreme is OBVIOUSLY way easier to win than the champion. Dunguib would have been slaughtered had it gone for the champion last year. I know cue card is better by a long way- but there really is NO rush.

RUK saying yesterday that connections want to go chasing as soon as they can,if that true, would they want to wait 2 years?
By:

When: 04 Dec 10 12:55
He will go chasing next season no matter what happens. If he beats or goes close to menorah next week then he will take the champion hurdle this year.

Very decisive. Not sure we are use to having NH trainers being quite so brisk and definitive about things. Quite like that. Let's hope it works out for them.

You missed the point cyrusdailami. I'm not saying the champion is easier to win than the supreme. What I'm saying is that if you consider your novice good enough you should go for the champion as it involves less physical risk.

Connections seem very level headed - I reckon they might think this is Gold Cup horse in 2013 - Nick Luck's argument about gonig for Champion Hurdle because they want to send him chasing next season made sense.

Nothing to do with the bet Luck has had on him foe the CHurdle at inflated odds of course.

Luck's bet was mentioned on a Morning Line several weeks ago, interesting study in how the press might use their position in conjunction with their bets.
