He is more of an athletic type than a robust chasing type. Perhaps that is because he is a 4yo.
I think 3/1 is a good price because I think his engine will be very hard to match. Not interested in backing though for the obvious reasons like you guys. |

I dont think the horse will win the Supreme... personally feel it should go for the Neptune. High class bumper winners want further, its bred to stay further and while it has pace the fact it only beat Dunraven by the distance it did to me was a negative. I am on dare Me for the superme at 25/1 and 20/1 and knowing what the yard think of Dare Me in comparison to Dunraven quite happy with that run.
Dare Me can beat Cue Card over 2 miles imho. Cue Card over 2m 4f though would be untouchable. Over 2m he will get found out by a pure speed horse as all but 1 bumper winner has found out. |
|
By:
cue card is a speed horse, the neptune is out of the question, as reading between the lines of what the trainer said after aintree....they were surprised he pulled like he did that day....in he neptune i think they would be slightly concerned at the tad slower pace he'd do the same again and not get away with it.

DD - your right about the one horse book thing at this stage - the other main contenders haven't run yet so I'd expect about 95%+ of the cash on the Supreme to be on Cue Card.

fair enough, its all about opinions etc, I just couldnt back him for the supreme personally. Although saying that I would not be laying him either!

You need to stay pretty well to win a Supreme imo. I think the horse has shown ample pace to go this route. I think its a no brainer tbh.
I have backed him for the 2m5f race, so as much as it pains me to say it, I think that race would be the wrong decision. Its often won by staying chasers in the making. I think Catch Me might have won the Supreme, but we made the wrong decision and he got outstayed in the Ballymore ![]() |

davescrazy - you dont want to compare with last years supreme, was a very poor race and none of the principles are going to go on to top class. Do you know what the previous two supreme times were? - I am not trying to catch you out, I just dont know myself.

how the hell do u know that the supreme was was rubbish last season the winner of the race aint even ran yet this season nor dunguib nor oscar whisky only the ch eating o,neil horse has ran and u cant judge him on that either terrible comment
i like cue card but 7-4 for the supreme is an absolute joke we had all this last season with dunguib who was doing exactly the same in ireland.and like nicky henderson sed it is very very early. he done today what he should of done he beat dunraven in the bumper last season by 28l today he beat him 8l |
|
By:
hmm thats what i was thinking benjy...
|
|
By:
So what exactly were you basing your ridiculous claim on?
|
|
By:
Although both the Champion hurdles those years were over 4 minutes as well.
|
|
By:
i took the view, that it was a very weak race with no standout horse able to challenge the established guard this year. Bit of a blanket finish, even the handicapper seemed to back this up with his ratings. Well its easy enough to find out, we shall see how GMOOH and menorah get on sunday :)
I dont expect either of them to win though. |

^ Hopefully thats because General Miller will win
- and he would have won the Supreme too but for falling at the first![]() |

Said right after Aintree that I thought the Supreme was definitely his race and that looks nailed on now.
Lieutenant - I understand that very often people hype horses to the moon and are willing to take ludicrous prices based on easy wins against bad opposition (Dunguib etc). I don't think 7/4 is worth taking with so many months to go, but... to say CC wants further than 2m based on him only beating Dunraven by 8 lengths is utter nonsense. This horse is very fast! |
|
By:
Dunraven Storm is a better yardstick than most of what Dunguib beat (potentially Fionnegas aside) and DS was well ahead of third. Cue Card laughed at him
|
|
By:
^ meant pre-supreme, naturally [smiley:crazy]
|
|
By:
Correct.
and for comaprisons re Dunguib, even though the horses are completey different, he actually ran a good race to finish 3rd last season. He was not disgraced, or beaten far, he made the frame. That's ignoring the fact he travelled wide around the bend and had a worse jockey than Joe Tizzard. Whatever else comes out of the woodwork for the Supreme, Cue Card will be right on the premises in March. |
|
By:
why are people saying 7/4 when 3/1 is widely available ??? 3s will be huge come march , this 1 will be close to odds on with all the hype etc, look at dunguib last year, all the hype drove his odds down to 4/5 10/11
|
|
By:
last season we thought dunguib was beating good horses like some present and sweeps hill but time showed they were not up to much.as much as i think dunraven storm is useful he has beaten him already so we learnt nothing new about cue card i wanna see him face something he hasant faced before like sprinter sacre or something similar.strictly on form dunraven storm has improved 20l on cue card
|

Impressed with him today, pretty good bumper win as well.Really pleased that one of the smaller yards have such an exciting prospect. However, the price for the Supreme which is his race by the looks of it, is now too small. If anyone has double figures then they will be happy, and good luck. But the way i look at it,it is pretty likely we have yet to see any of his likely challengers next March. So i for one will bide my time and try and find some value down the line, cos i do think their will be,especially if Cue Card keeps getting backed.

Cue Card recorded a Timeform performance rating of 156 in winning at Cheltenham on Friday, a figure which the Halifax gurus report is extraordinarily high for this stage of the season.
Kieran Packman, Timeform's spokesman, commented: "The facile manner in which Cue Card saw off his field shouldn't detract from pre-race comments which observed that it was a well up-to-scratch renewal of the Grade 2. "In returning a figure of 156, Cue Card has already shown a level of form 8lb in excess of that which would be good enough to win an average renewal of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. "Indeed, of the last 15 Supreme winners, only Hors La Loi III (162), posted a figure higher than Cue Card achieved this afternoon. To put it into some recent context, Dunguib was rated 136P at a similar stage of last season, yet was a similar price for the Surpeme. "Of course, it's no certainty that the Supreme will be his Festival target, but this level of performance on just his second hurdling start underlines that he will be extremely difficult to beat in either of the novice hurdle contests in March. It really cannot be underplayed what a hugely exciting prospect Cue Card is." source timeform... 3/1 for the supreme is still buying money... t he champion is not on the agenda Hail the new Arkle.. ![]() |

imo,3's for any horse for March at this stage is not buying money, let alone a novice.Big Bucks might be close if that were 3's!!

By:
Alvarado, the Cheltenham/ antepost forums are usual full of opinions and good open debate, this was my opinion last year on the horse, i am hardly going to change my mind now... i hope this horse proves you completely wrong...

I think that a fit and well Cue Card will win which ever novice race he contests at Cheltenham in March but if I owned and trained him, I would wait until I knew the likely opposition before deciding which race to go for. Fot that reason I am not tempted to back him until the day he runs. He is evens to be fit and healthy in March like all other horses, evens to contest the Supreme if he is fit and evens to win. A 7/1 treble. Offer me 7/2 to win any race at the Festival and I might be interested.

Champion hurdle must surely be the objective this season. If you look at at Catchmeifyoucan's "out for the season" thread you realise what an unpredictable sport this is and that you must take opportunities when given the chance
. The long term objective with this horse is obviously chasing so why spend a whole season fannying around in novice hdle events?? Might as well go for the top prize in what could well turn out to be it's only season hurdling. Comparisons with Arkle obviously laughable but I honestly think that this season offers the chance to take the first steps in emulating Dawn Run |
