YBFW, I think your post above shows that Firebreak DOES suit your mare on several levels, despite what some strain breeders may say about sons of stallions. Hopefully he should be a commercial choice too.
As before, I wish you the best of luck. |
By:
"It would be a shame if this thread about a very tough and worthy horse got sidetracked by nit-picking and name calling"
Maybe you should practice what you preach slick. Furthermore, if you are breeding classic placed horses and Group winners, why are you messing with unproven sires like Misu bond and Firebreak....surely you can afford to upgrade your mares with proven stallions especially in the current climate. As i said earlier, good luck to all who have used the stallion nominated in this thread, after all, isnt racing and breeding all about opinions. |
By:
Benkers, I am not 'messing' with unproven sires as you say. In fact as I have said several times on this particular thread I don't have a mare for Firebreak and I am not using him.
As a commercial breeder, unproven first and second season stallions are largely what I use as these are what the market goes for. However I don't use them exclusively as my post on the Foals 2009 thread shows. The three I quoted on there were by Danehill Dancer, Oasis Dream and Holy Roman Emperor. So there is a mix of proven and unproven. I have mares waiting to foal to Amadeus Wolf and Kyllachy. My Misu Bond covering is for a cheap mare that doesn't warrant a higher fee, but is a good type, by an very good and acceptable broodmare sire and she will be suited by the Danehill Dancer line. I also have a mare booked to Jeremy, but he was too expensive for the other mare hence Misu. Which sires do you use Benkers? |

By:
Mr Barnes.I would love to tell you the horses name, but like alot of people on this forum I like my anonymity.I know that is no help, however, maybe we will bump into each other one day at the races.Perhaps a Monday evening at Windsor ?

By:
Well - there you go - first race of the season won by a son of Firebreak - and a good looking son he was too
By:
Well done SNS, I hope you filled your pockets. Your judgement was spot on. It's great to see people on here who know what they are talking about.
By:
Thanks Gotchee. I did have a little bit on. We were cheering it home here. So champagne all round this evening!
Hopefully the first of many Firebreak winners. Well Done |
By:
Well done Slick, be interesting to follow his progeny over the year, reckon that one can follow up seemed to know it's job well and won relatively easily.

Thanks H00d.
Just highlights again what a tough and consistant horse he was. He was also only narowly beaten in the Coventry by Landseerer, beating Rock of Gibraltar. I think Bearstones lack of updates on their website is lamentable. I remember they listed all of Reel Buddy's 2yo and who they were with, as well as day-by-day entries. Last time their news page was updated? 17th Dec. Not even a mention that Firebreak had 2 entered in the Brocklesby. At least the list above contains a few more names to follow. |

G luck getting on with that firm ! See there is a sole Firebreak filly - also out of a Mind Games mare, at the Donny breeze ups this week. The Brocklesbury result was certainly timely for her breeders.

Hearts Of Fire off to Royal Ascot I hear from the trainer

I was at Donnie today. The Firebreak Filly breezed OK, but she was very lightweight when I inspected her. Wasn't the powerpacked sprinting type I was expecting.

36,000 for the Firebreak filly, second top lot so far. Not bad for a filly on the trade.

nice return for the old boy there dom

The money came for him,12's into6's,but not mine.Should have won though.Less is Moore. If Fallon had have ridden it,the gamble would have been landed.Sadly my 3 yr old is injured, and will not run again this year.My other horse is being aimed at the Doncaster evening meeting on May 16th.Fingers crossed.Be Lucky.

By:
sorry to hear about the 3 year old
would agree that mr fallon would have lifted the old boy home good luck at donny |

Getting back to the title of the topic...
Did anyone else think that the RP write up on Firebreak had a rather negative slant? esp if you comapre and contrast it with todays, on Footsteps. I wouldn't dare suggest a bias though....... ;-) |
By:
I think they said as much as they could to be honest.Still early days, only had three runners.I was surprised to see he only covered 25 mares in his second season though.Like you I hope his results this year enable him to cover a bigger and better book of mares next season.
By:
Prefer Lucky Story myself - we are sendin our mare to him next week. Have got him for £2000 so a good deal considering his early record
By:
YBFW, did you see Air Chief Marshal result? Misu Bond's brother, see my thread on here.
By:
Hi Slick, yep pleased to see him win. Had my second mare scanned in foal to Misu and mare scanned in foal to Firebreak too so good week.
By:
Firebreak having a quite time with his first crop to date
By:
Yes, this is unfortunately where the numbers game comes into play. :-( however compare him to Avonbridge who has a runner most days (as you would expect with a crop his size) yet they still have one winner a piece.
I was surprised to hear from several commentators that they though his stock look like they need time, but that does hold some hope for later in the year. Far too early to write him off IMO |
By:
Yes I would think they just may need time - as you say too early to write him off - see how his runners fair from August onwards.
Still like Lucky Story - his 2 year olds are running OK - running consistently well and I believe he is very good value at £3000 (or less if you deal). His 3 year olds should progress well too judging from early results this year. Our mare by Orpen should be getting covered by him later this week Dave |
By:
Bearstone give me an update last week re his first crop. They have rang round the trainers and all are pleased but not rushing them out as the general opinion is they have scope and are not going to be out and out early 2 year old sprinters...
I'm going to watch with fingers crossed as the studs can say anything really.... |
By:
Agree that studs can, and do, say anything, though if your mare is covered and scanned in foal then you are not likely to change your mind at this stage! ;-)
I am surprised that his stock are not early sprint types as he was himself and so were the majority of his family, but perhaps he will impart class rather than just 'cheap speed'. A good sign that the vast majority of his books have been winners or dams of winners as well. I still keep the faith and I am sure he will prove the doubters wrong. GL with your mares YBFW |
By:
i am not at all sure about lucky story. what numbers has he covered?i thiught he had a chance as a cheap alt. to dr. fong but when his brother faded that was hard to see. also not as correct in front as his brother so what's his appeal apart from price - and plently of low end stallions on offer in this market.
By:
Mrs Slick.I think his stock can be early sprint types - provided you send a speedily bred mare too him.For example his Brocklesby winner was out of a Mind Games mare.More stoutly bred types will need time.I have just seen my yearling Firebreak colt, out of a Prince Sabo mare, for the first time in 10 months,if he is not a sprinter I'm an eskimo.Doncaster will be looking at him this week. Not so sure I want to part with him.Keep the faith ....Firebreak will come good.
By:
not sure i want to part with him! there must be more extraordinary foals born to forum contributors than to anyone else.
By:
Did I say he was extraordinary ?
By:
good luck at the sales dom
By:
Electric Feel wins well today at HQ. I think that means Firebreak is now 50% winners to runners.
As for early types, I wonder myself if people have used him as a cheap way to inject speed into low grade mares. |
