BIG DEAL: $4.5b boost for Qld Racing

BIGGER prize pools, better horses and, hopefully, more generous odds.
That’s what punters can expect to reap from a new three decade deal struck between the Newman Government, Racing Queensland and the Tatts Group.
More than $4.5 billion will be pumped into the state’s racing industry over the life of the agreement, under which the Government has cut betting taxes in exchange for a bigger slice of the licensing fee.
Tatts has vowed to inject an extra $50 million over five years into refurbishing and modernising its 755 retail outlets in Queensland, including the introduction of 1500 new self-service terminals, potentially in to non-traditional outlets such as bottle shops.
Tatts Group chief executive Robbie Cooke made it clear he was ready to up the ante in the wagering battle against cashed-up corporate bookmakers, who have taken significant market share away from traditional TABs.
With an additional $850 million expected to flow under the agreement, the thoroughbreds, harness and greyhounds will now fight for a greater slice of funding.
It is hoped the deal will lead to bigger prize pools, as they have been stagnant for years, forcing trainers and jockeys to ride off to races in Sydney and Melbourne where a minimum Saturday race winner earns $48,000 compared with $28,800 in Brisbane.
Racing Minister Steve Dickson said the deal would support the industry’s 30,000 jobs which had been imperilled following years of “neglect and shoddy dealings”.
“From the punters’ perspective, this will mean better quality races, including a better calibre of horses, as well as significantly increased investment in the consumer experience for punters and finally an opportunity to deliver the most compelling racing product that Queensland has ever seen,’’ he told The Courier-Mail.
“On the back of the deal there will be increases in prize money, and improved racing infrastructure to benefit both participants and punters and ensure a sustainable racing landscape in Queensland for the next 30 years.”
Under the agreement, Racing Queensland will invest $97 million into improved ­infrastructure with Doomben and Eagle Farm often criticised for their outdated facilities compared with interstate counterparts.
Tatts Group will pour more than $74 million into marketing and expanding its network of pub and club outlets.
Under the new regime, the Government’s tax take will be cut by between 6 and 10 per cent on different types of bets, aligning Queensland with rates in other states and plugging the flow of revenue away from the local industry.
In exchange for the loss in tax revenue, the Government will take an undisclosed portion of the $150 million licence fee paid by Tatts.

Watch the Tritton team in Queensland this week.  His horses are running through brick walls atm.  One of them will win the Sprint depending on draws and who well......you can fill in the rest.

quinny is well below his best so it means absolutely zip, its basically a free holiday for all concerned as qld have been trying to get him there for ages. David Hercules wasn't fully wound up and still beat him easily.

Doesn't worry me either way, he's been beating up on absolutely nothing Craig.

Put it this way if he wins the horses he's racing against up there are diabolical, he only staggered over My Hard Copy last start and it's only handy.
David Hercules is the first genuine class horse he's come up against all prep and he beat Quinny easily despite not being at his peak.
It's no disgrace its just that injury and age are catching up with him, it doesn't detract from his historic greatness but they all come towards the end at some stage and its certainly nearer the end than the start for Quinny.

Beautide was looking for the paddock as his first up run was fairly average I thought, chilli palmer got beaten out of sight in the nugget and I haven't seen any of those recent runs of avonova but have seen plenty of it in the past and don't rate it at all.
I haven't been  watching those events and have had no interest in doing so either as the standard of horse is nowhere near what those carnivals used to attract.
