They've been doing it for years as you prob know Thebas
Paulson was on 24.5mil a year at Goldman before becoming the US equivalent of Wayne Swan and seeing his salary drop to 195k - im sure that was all noble in spirit.... pot luck for Goldman he was there when all his buddies and his company needed a taxpayer funded bailout out 2years later ![]() now they have Mario Monti and ex Goldman sachs advisor (for the last 6 years) as Italian Prime minister and another ex goldman sachs adviser Lucas Papadem as the new Greek prime minister can see these two acting in their countries best interest in the crisis their both in ![]() |

some excellent news.
SIGNS of hope for the battered global economy emerged yesterday with new Chinese manufacturing figures showing the slowdown in the world's second biggest economy may be stabilising. The Chinese government's purchasing managers' index (PMI) rose from a contractionary 49 in November to an expansionary 50.3 in December, higher than economists expected. November's fall below 50 had marked the first contraction in Chinese manufacturing for almost three years, but the turnaround in December has reinforced Treasurer Wayne Swan's New Year forecast that China's growth will help the Australian economy withstand global challenges this year. "The rebound in the December index shows that there will be no big slowdown in the Chinese economy," said economist Zhang Liqun, from the development research centre of the State Council, China's cabinet. HSBC's separate PMI for December, collecting data from smaller factories, also points to a slowing of the deterioration in China's manufacturing conditions. President Hu Jintao focused in his New Year address on the need to accelerate the transformation of the economy. He vowed that China would adopt "a proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy, speed up economic restructuring, improve people's livelihoods and push forward reform and opening up". The country would continue to co-operate to resolve the global financial crisis, he said. Mr Swan told The Weekend Australian that he believed Beijing would ensure its economy continued to grow at its long-term trend. He said: "Early in 2011, they tightened monetary policy and they are now loosening it. "They have plenty of policy firepower to respond if they're adversely affected by Europe. also, THE Australian dollar has risen almost two US cents since trading began in the new year, as strong data from the US, China and Europe strengthens confidence. THE Australian dollar has rallied for a third straight session, with positive economic data and a strong day on equity markets lifting the currency above 103 US cents and fresh highs against the euro. lets hope 2012 is a bounce back year |

wesfarfers cuts coking coal prices by 19%.Falling demand, pushing us further into recession.
|
|
By:
mrben,mrben...scaremongering again.....WE ARE NOT IN A FCKING RECESSION
![]() wesfarfers has 2 coal mines, one at Curragh and the other at Bengalla, employ over 600 workers at both mines, running at 24 hours a day, demand is strong. yes their price has dropped and many reasons why. the australian federal government, brought in 2 taxes , the carbon and mining tax to offset other countries buying up mines in australia and fleecing us dry. westfarers being mostly australian owned has 3 grades of coal and its major buyer is japan, we know what happened in japan. there will always be a demand for coal and new customers. its like everything in the world of commodities, nothing is at a set price, Hence prices going up and down....FW ![]() |

china officially revises growth forecast DOWN to 7%.Remembering 6% is break even for china with population growth.
the effects of this pushes aust further into recession. |
|
By:
if the chinese economy wete to contract markedly for a longish period ... their interest in taiwan woild expand exponentially ... and the U.S. have already said they are prepared to go to war over taiwan ... and the yanks have recently secured more military infratsructure in Oz ... one and one equals imo
hold on to your hats if it gets rocky ahead |

retail sales for november - flat, under the .3% concensus.
was'nt it you MEGSY who was singing the praises of retail sales? building construction contracts for the 19th month in a row. Its a recession. MEGSY- when will you concede that the recession has started?? Oh yeh I know- when the govt TELLS you its a recession ![]() those of us who like to make a buck have learnt to think for themselves. |
|
By:
mrben mrben....stop ya scare mongering. china's current GDP growth is 9.4
http://www.chinability.com/GDP.htm november retail wasnt in the red, ...FW !!! instead of praising anything negative you can scourage up in the media, seems you go awefully quiet when theres good news, pfffffft how about you give a date when our economy collapses, till then shut the fcuk up. ![]() ![]() |

has a mrben like prediction
![]() in the decade 2297 theres a real chance of a recession....sell sell sell ![]() |
|
By:
probably your worst post yet megsy.
you failed to adress the poor numbers. megsy- try to formulate an opinion rather than quoting a stat with a link. I realise your quite naiive so I'll give you a hint. The chinese govt rarely if ever releases a negative stat, it causes social unrest. So when they officially revise growth down its a monumental deal. Your unsophisticated thinking cannot read between the lines- ok I can accept that. Nowhere did i predict a collapse, those are your words. A recession, try looking it up on google for a definition if you dont understand. |
|
By:
You did say it would send us all broke though, how is that going to happen?
|
|
By:
november sales up only 60 million on october. as quoted
That doesn’t mean the November number is bad at all. Instead, we think the most important measure is profitability, not necessarily sales as there were huge sales with 50% or more off stocks. mrben.....you wouldnt know a recession if it was visiting you while your heads up your ass ![]() |

megsy- your throwing the coarse insults out because you have nothing else.Your struggling.
I cant continue to educate you under such a scenario,Plz improve your behaviou r. |
|
By:
mrben mrben....now you say....Nowhere did i predict a collapse, those are your words.
back up your wors mrben, your the motor mouth ![]() read your thread opening. quote: Here in aust we have an economy totally dependant on the mining boom which will soon end. We have govt who have so seriously over taxed and charged our economy that when revenue falls panic will set in.Labor will do what they always do and raise more taxes. That will be the final straw and the economy will collapse. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
nice going megsy, its a pity you have nothing to offer but links and a peasant attitude.
I on the other hand had the foresight to see the recession coming and have positioned accordingly. You , of course, are still holding your deep in the red positions- thats clear. What did you pay for RIO? 75$ 80$? it will take years to get out. Yur dead in the water megsy- face up to it.Its not too late to sell out and get short- theres much worse to come. |
